Dear Sparky77,
I am sorry about your experience. I am sure after all the positive steps your have progressed through, to get a negative outcome is hard.
Try again and try other airlines once you pick yourself up. The randomness of these things makes it harder to process.
I had knock backs when I tried decades ago. But then was accepted by two at around the same time. It makes no sense, but keep reminding yourself you have what it takes.

Good Afternoon everyone, long time poster here. I hope it’s okay I go a different tack with my question. I currently work for another airline and I would like to make the move to QF long haul (SYD Base). Kicking myself slightly for not applying earlier given how heavy recruitment was at the beginning of the year but I was wondering if anyone knows if they will open up recruitment again next year potentially or if they are potentially looking to work through the backlog they currently have/predict a surplus in flying requirements?

I have my fingers crossed for next year but may have missed the boat this time.

Thanks all, and good luck to those who are still waiting!

I was devastated. The process was about 4 months for me. I’m 157-158 cms. Did you have to do two arms at once or only one?

I am so so sorry to hear that.

I reached with two hands however, I didn’t reach it first time, and I think the assessor could tell I was worried about my height. She told me to relax, go closer to the wall and try again. I didn’t reach it the second time either. She told the other assessor to come have a look and they asked me to go even closer to the wall (at this point my face was quite literally against the wall) and the other attendees were cheering me on on my third attempt because I was the shortest one there. I didn’t look up when I reached because at that point I had thought I failed but I looked over at the assessor and she said it was fine and I had just touched it.

I am very sorry. I am actually speechless.. Not sure how I missed this quote of yours. I dont know the process of internal applicants but the outcome of yours has a mental impact. Please speak up to someone internally

I just saw this too. I’m so sorry-I’ve never heard of this happening before. Can only imagine how you would be feeling. Sending hugs and hope you have the support you deserve around you Xx

Hi!! I'm still waiting for the golden call for international like others (AD March 7) but in my physical medical I was asked to lift a number of weights. I don't remember the kg's but the heavier ones I didn't lift over my head but I just made sure that I attempted them all the correct way - bending knees. I assume if it was 50kgs over your head they are just assessing if you know how to lift correctly. They also assess you by push ups, sit ups, star jumps, a step test, an eyesight test, hearing test and height.

hope this helps!

Hello all.
New to the forum but used to be a F/A long time ago. Waiting on an AD.
I tried to post a question yesterday but may have not done it properly.
I have seen in various threads that at Bodycare medical check, people are asked to lift weights ranging from 26kg, 36kg and even 50kg. The randomness of the weights being asked to lift makes it hard to prepare!!
Any experiences appreciated.
For those who are finding the wait difficult, hang in there. It was the same back in my day too.
TIA

Unfortunately there is no info about when they open up for AD. There are a lot of people still waiting to get the call to start GS beginning of 2024. There are also 2 new destinations being reviewed which would mean more flights. But hey.. eventually at some point and date, they will open up for sure. You did not miss out.

Thank you all for kind words and support. I have now applied internally for QantasLink (as was recommended by the talent acquisition specialist who knocked me back) and will see how that goes.

There are some articles online but nothing official from Qantas:
https://www.bosshunting.com.au/travel/fly/qantas-perth-paris-direct/
https://www.aerotelegraph.com/qantas-schaut-sich-frankfurt-fluege-wieder-ganz-genau-an
FRA, CDG

remember that FCO operating seasonal on QF

Also, I like to highlight that second language speaker will be flying majority routes where its required. That includes codeshare flights of other airlines for instance KLM flies to SIN and then with QF to Oz meaning that there could be a second language speaker of Dutch. That sector could be a business requirement for the airline to have a second language speaker meaning the majority of the roster would be that particular sector . Or for instance if you are are a second language speaker of Korean you will be flying to ICN as QF has a direct flight out of SYD.

Hey Wannabes, I've been flying around now since the middle of the year (long haul), loving it all and very thankful to be here. Hasn't been the easiest time for QF but our QF crew have an amazing work ethic and focus on customer service/striving for excellence and our customers can see that. The waiting game for you guys is a tough one, you'll get trained up soon enough but in the meantime I'd advise you to save as much $$ as you can for your 8-10 weeks of training, unless of course you get time in Abu Dhabi, the allowances are good for those 2 weeks, if not it's VERY basic pay. Rumours were floating around about more Long Haul Cabin Crew Recruitment opening up ad being advertised "at the end of the year" but that isn't confirmed. For upcoming training they'll continue to draw from the current holding pool. All the best guys and girls, if you have any questions I can help with just let me know.

are you able to provide a guideline of how much weekly pay is once you’re out on line flying? Just got the questionnaire interview email and considering if I can afford to go ahead with this.

basic is around fortnightly 1600 and you end up with something between 2000-3000 (with layover money) after tax. All depending on the flights you doing (what destination, how long the flight is, layover time)

I've just checked my ground school training pay slips, $1493/fortnight after tax. Out on line, and depending on how long your slips are and where, (GREAT tax free allowances for US ports and Hong Kong), you'll maybe average about $2500/fortnight after tax, this includes your tax free allowances.

Good on you all starting GS soon. So much information to absorb but take each day as it comes and you will be just fine! Keep smiling and the class mates will be friends for life.

Question: the reach test: 212cm, 2 hands it seems, bare feet, but can you stand on tip toes or is that a no-no?

TIA!!

Hey guys,

I guess this is a post of me needing reassurance.. I believe in about 4 days time I would hit one year of my application - and I am worried that since it’s hit the 12 months mark and I’m external, they would boot me off kind of thing? Is this a thing? The waiting is hard, but I am very hopeful seeing everyone’s ground school posts.

Many thanks and good wishes!

As for application being rejected purely because it was at the 12 month stage, it would seem unfair due to the protracted ( more than normal!) process. I don't have an answer but you could email TA and put it to them. Ask the question, it shows how keen you are! Good luck. Others may have a more insightful answer......

Hi highfly8,

You’ll be fine. Previous posters have said it’s 12 months from your AD, not application date (although no one really knows for sure it seems).

Take comfort in the fact that last year, there were people who got their GC more than 12 months after their AD, so you definitely won’t just be “booted off”. Especially with things slowly ramping up and rumors that applications will re-open soon - it would make sense they exhaust their current hold pool especially those who have completed everything.

Hope this alleviates some of your concern. I understand it’s very easy to overthink these things, I do it too! 😅

my application was terminated last year after a year… I had only completed the online questionnaire though and never heard back apart from being asked if I was interested in syd assessment days. Then a couple of weeks after they terminated it, they readvertised for Melbourne. Now I’ve waited another 9 months to get to the questionnaire again.

For those who are joining make sure you have a pair of closed shoes which can get wet (trainers) submerged or water shoes (beach shoes) which are needed for the ditching part.
You will also wear your own bathers, but you have to wear an overall suit provided by Qantas over your swim attire.

SnakeBite
19th Oct 2023, 22:13
Once you signed the contract, a few days after you get the roster for training plus online pre learning courses. Focus and pay attention to the Uniform video/pdf as what to wear with what and what is not allowed (need to know all capusls (outfits) not allowed to say male/female anymore. Also pay attention to the video/pdf of how the avionics and other (drag, lift, pressure) work of an aircraft. This will be examined the first few days of start of training. Perhaps you forget it, if you already do these online learnings 2 weeks prior of start of training.

Hey - just a question for those still waiting for an AD in Sydney (or anyone who wants to add something) - what are your thoughts about the most recent email from QANTAS about re-advertising for International Cabin Crew in Sydney for second language speakers only? Are there many people still waiting for an AD who does not speak a second language? Thanks :)

I definitely need some support to lift me up, I had AD in Feb. I just feel so demoralised that they are recruiting again, the $300 for medical wasn’t easy for me to come up with. I just feel so disrespected.

am I looking at this the wrong way?

hi “sky1157” The new recruiting campaign is for language speakers and not for “general” crew. So essentially they are recruiting for crew to be crewed for specific routes. It’s okay to feel any way you want but it is a lengthy process. I’m internal and I have been waiting for 12 months. As annoying as it sounds you just have to play the waiting game. By the sounds of it they are starting to ramp up and will be going ahead full speed in the new year, so fingers crossed for you and the rest of us. Keep us updated 😉

im wondering if your address is other than Sydney yet GS is in SYD then what accommodation will they provide? Or do I need a crash pad to go through GS. the reach test concerns

I’ve been on lots of airline AD one day they ask you to remove shoes and stay flat feetted next airline allows you to wear your shoes, next says you can stand on tippy toes. What’s QF want? I’m only 163 cms

$49 with QF or $25 with JQ per sector

in my old USA airline you get to travel standby on your own metal once you graduate. But JS standby (jump seat) was free. Yet that’s what you sit on. A JS.

cabin seat wouldn’t cost but it does here. Is that right? On your own metal?

If you applied for SYD base and QF training is in SYD than you have to take care of your own accommodation arrangements. The only time QF arranges your accommodation is when your training is out of the base you were hired. For instance: If your base is Melbourne (as per contract) but QF says that your training will be in SYD, QF will arrange accommodation in SYD in form of hotel.

Good morning, this Q is for anyone currently at QF.
In terms of bids can you bid for trips that don’t start at your home base. For example if you are Melbourne base can you bid for SFO, HNL, ICN etc.

Hi Koko90
If you are based in SYD all of your patterns (trips) start in SYD. There are patterns however where you pax to MEL to operate MEL/LAX or MEL/SIN, and same to BNE and PER. Crew also do port swaps from time to time and there is a transfer list. I hope this helps. x

Hi Dingochecks,

From your date of employment (not graduation) you are able to book on Staff Travel with JQ and QF. A jump seat is at the discretion of the tech crew and is the same price as your staff ticket. It can be requested if there is not a seat in the cabin and is not guaranteed.

however i didn’t have to! i think it was depending on the assessment day. something must have happened

that is the same with me, Melb AD in June. I’m heading in next week to retake the reach test. It was 2 arms at the AD.

Christmas/New Year shutdown usually brings to a halt most things non operational.

With the reach test was it flat feet or tippy toe? One hand or 2 hands? TIA!!

Hi everybody.
I'm trying to find out an answer to a very serious question in regards to International Flight Attendants that were advertised in November.
I'm hoping someone is 'in the know', for sure.

I note in the job application the English test requirement is 'ADVANCED LOW' on an OPI test. That's fine.
But CASA Standards MOS make mention of an IELTS 5.5 or a TOEIC test.

This is my question.
Is IELTS or TOEIC required AS WELL as the required grade on an OPI test, or just the OPI test, as mentioned in the job application.
Does anyone know 100%???

Thanks for any answers.

Hi,
Another update here, 4th Dec will be the begining of new Roster period (Period #3591) , ending at 31/Dec, there is no GS planned for the next BP and unfortunately no GS also in Roster Period #3595.
New GS is planned from Roster period #3561.
Please see following quote: "There are no QF Cabin Crew Australia (QCCA) initial courses in BP3591. Additional CCI courses are planned from BP3601 onwards."

The Nov Cabin Crew recruitment advertisement that I am aware of is for Language speaker who can speak one of the few selected languages such as Mandarin, Cantonese, Japanese or Korea.

To be able to carry the Language speaker badge as a crew, they need to achieve minimum of "Advanced low" level of the designated language they nominate.

Therefore, the "Advanced Low" is not for English. Your English proficiency is being assessed when you are submitting the predictive hire questionnaire and there is also a "reading comprehensive" test on the Assessment Day, as well as through the face to face interview.

I hope this explains a bit for you.

Hi, thanks for the information! Always apperciate knowing the inside information (as some of us are waiting since our March AD in Syd, just receiving the sorry for the delay emails atm:)).

Is this bid period for Sydney or Melb base? Thanks so much.

same here! Internal here, applied October 2022. The waiting game is the hardest part. I think I’ll cry when I get a call/email 😆

I would say if you haven’t passed an assessment day yet your application may be terminated. This is what happened to me last year.. I waited 6 months for chat questionnaire then no assessment days happened for Melbourne and they withdrew it 6 months after that.
I was very annoyed as the position was advertised again within weeks of my application being terminated and once again I missed the MEL assessment days. I have now reapplied this year and waited another 6 months to get to the questionnaire and now probably the same thing will happen :(

but… if you’ve passed the assessment day you should be fine based on what I’ve heard of others experiences, people have been in the holding pool for a long time for a start date.

On second reading, the advertisement does not mention 'Advanced Low' in English at all, as you quite rightly pointed out.
That's what threw me.
That clears up my misunderstanding of the CASA MOS, and wondering why it suddenly changed.
Thanks heaps.

Does Jetstar hire international crew separately from domestic crews?

Does Jetstar hire international crew separately from domestic crews?

Hi, dailyminyo.

In australia Jetstar hire domestic cabin crew, although depending on your base, you will do short haul international duties such as DPS, ZQN, AKL, RAR and NAN. During covid Jetstar did move some FT team Jetstar employees to be endorsed on the 787. Since then, Jetstar only hire international cabin crew for their international bases in Singapore, Phuket, Bangkok and Denpasar. These crew operate flights from their bases to and from Australia, HNL, KIX, NRT, ICN, and SGN. I hope this makes sense 😃

Just got an email saying no assessment days until mid 2024 and to answer survey to say if keen to continue application and wait.
2.5 years of waiting to get to an assessment day so far.. even with previous wide body flying experience on my resume as well. Think it's time to give up on the dream of getting back there :(

I hear your frustration and it does kind of shape us with this prolonging process . Please try not to take it personal as everyone is being treated equal regardless any flying experience as this is not part of the system. This process will have an ending somehow and its up to the universe or other forces. I truly believe you did and do your best.

Hey crew,
I've just passed the 6 month mark flying and really loving it. Currently though it feels like QF could be a bit over staffed in the cabin crew department. We've been offered casual part-time roles in the first half of next year and also leave without pay with staff travel incentives. With the Paris Olympics and plus the Rome flights coming back in the European summer it wouldn't surprise me if training will start again then. In the meantime, keep your heads up, stay positive, and have a great Christmas with your families and friends. This time next year will be totally different, you'll be in the air or on the other side of the world with your QF family :))

im in the process of applying for my security card and im waiting on a police check from canada and i did 2 working holidays there over the space of 4 years. It’s taking so long to be sent to me, im worried that im going to miss the deadline. How long did it take most people for their ASIc to be approved?

Mine took 6 months to arrive. I applied for it in the November of 2022 and it was sent to me in the May of 2023 after I was advised of a training date.

Hello everyone,
I have a question re: medical questionaire.
Did you have to go to a specific Qantas nominated doctor? Or do you fill out a emailed medical history questionaire, then only have to go to a doctor if something is flagged? Or is it all done by Bodycare?
Many thanks and best wishes for the coming festive season!

Many thanks and best wishes for the coming festive season!Hi. For the medical questionnaire you will only need to see a doctor if something is flagged and this can be your general practitioner. A GP will need to sign a document that body care will email and you email it back to body care. In my experience I was diagnosed with anaemia a few years ago and my GP signed the doc saying I have since recovered. Good luck!

It will arrive just before you begin training. As it is ID for employment in aviation, you are essentially applying for one in your initial application, but it's not finalised until you get an offer.

Does anyone know what the process is if you’ve waited for a GS more than 12months?

I emailed Talent last week pretty much begging for some information like timelines are I’ve been waiting a year as well and it’s unfair of them to give us minimal information and all I got was a “sorry we will update you when we know”

the other successful candidates and I are losing hope why hold an assessment day if you don’t have a job for them :( hold out hope yall but if anyone has any updates pls let me know!
