A Swiss newspaper has today alleged that the captain of a (Crossair) Saab 340 that crashed at Zurich in January, 2000, was under the influence of tranquilisers at the time of the accident.
Today's "Dimanche" quotes the accident report by the BEAA (Swiss accident investigation authority) as stating that "the capacities of analysis and faculty to judge in a situation criticizes were reduced by the effect of a drug", which it names as Phenocepan. Apparently, known side effects are giddiness, confusion and disturbed vision. The paper also cites several "handling errors" made by the crew.
If memory serves correctly, the aircraft crashed inverted, killing 10 people, shortly after takeoff. The supposition now is that responsibility for the accident rests (at least partly) with the crew, in particular, the captain.
Sorry, I haven't checked the details of the accident again yet, so please excuse (and correct) any errors in the above.
Is this simply over-zealousness on behalf of the parasites... sorry, press or more cause for worry chez Crossa..... sorry, "Swiss".:confused:
