That posting reflects a high level of, shall I say, excitation, on your part. If you can manage to calm down, could you kindly post a working link? You did manage to arouse my curiosity!

The link worked for me.

Arrogant twit who I hope got the comeuppance he deserved. However, unless conflicting traffic prevented it he should have been given an appropriate clearance and his behaviour dealt with after landing. He would be prosecuted in the UK of course..

My son recently heard someone being challenged by Solent Radar for entering their airspace without clearance. He too claimed that his telephone booking gave him clearance.

Gotta wait or go under... they'll clear you but you are not a priority for them, especially in congested airspace
Edited to add: Some Class Bravo's have uncontrolled flyways poking through them ..All you need is a transponder...for US class B it's best to read the Terminal Area Chart

@FlightDetent: thank you, that works. I could of course have found it for myself, but I thought it for the topic starter to post a working clickable link, which would scarcely be more difficult.

General comment: yes sure this is NOT the way to do it, neither the flying nor the communications. and I too hope this pilot may be penalised one way or another. But isn't his behaviour and (lack of) style typical of the degeneration of citizenship and good manners, in the US particularly?

I am surprised ATC apologized to him at the end

Yes I know man, I mean C'mon, keep it together

To me that's definitely a 91:13 (Careless and Reckless operation) and they have revoked licenses for less than that. Not the ATCO the "pilot"

The one in post #4 works. This is one exceptionally stupid excuse for a pilot sat behind that yoke. I looked up the tail number and it appears to be registered to 'WIFE APPROVED LLC'. He probably has a quite specific sense of humour...

USA tends to be mostly good on the frequency.
I have never heard such dangerous, disrespectful RT. Ground people tend to misbehave much more but in general people are so F'ing cute!

Registered to a ‘Wife Approved LLC’. That and the whiny voice tells me that this bloke is a little b*tch.

He’s got form. Sounds like an absolute c*ckhead.

I think that guy needs to trade in his current Centurion for this model, to protect him from all the incoming, which he more than richly deserves, just ensure the ammunition boxes are empty. Wonder if he reads Pprune? Probably not, as I guess he knows it all. "Wife approved" may indicate a hen pecked rooster whose only outlet is to abuse ATC.

What do you expect to hear from ATC if you're flying VFR and is about to enter class D or C airspace?

I've heard a lot of different opinions on the matter:

We make initial call, get runway in use and QNH, then we can enter without further.
We make initial call, get runway in use and QNH and "enter the TMA or CTR" but without using the word "cleared", then we can enter.
We make initial call, get runway in use and QNH and "cleared to enter/destination....." as is required in a standard clearance, then we can enter.

And this is from neighbouring countries.... making at least VFR cross boundaries a bit tricky if you haven't talked to people who has been there.

The fun thing is, this entire conversation between ATC and N731NR reminded me of that... (he is IFR though, so there's nothing to raffle about)

As one who occasionally flies in he US, I'm constantly bemused at the rather lax way of doing things. For example take off from a small field, fly towards a big airport, make a call and get a squawk (without asking for anything in particular) then make a beeline for his overhead at 2000 AGL.

I suggest that it might be a plan to state intentions and make a request but my FAA instructor simply says .. do whatever you like, he'll tell you if he isn't happy.

Yeah .. I can imagine doing that at Gatwick.

I'd like to add: Clearance to cross extended centerline of active runway always/sometimes (if approaching traffic)/never (he'll tell you what to do)

What do you expect to hear from ATC if you're flying VFR and is about to enter class D or C airspace?
In FAA land: For class C: Establish radio contact - ATC responds with your callsign. Same for class D, but expect an instruction (join downwind, etc). QNH is normally given on ATIS, so the initial call in class D would be something like "<airport> Cessna 12345, 5 miles SW landing with <ATIS designator>". Only for class B must you hear "Cleared into class Bravo".

^^ absolutely correct. "[callsign] standby" is enough to enter the clas C or D stateside. Widely understood in the USA and covered in the AIM if memory serves. OTOH "aircraft calling, standby" does not count as 'establishing communications' and you should remain clear.

IFR or VFR you still need clearance to enter the class Bravo
