Confusion in B737NG turbulence speed/procedure
Flown with many people around the world and coupled with a fairly unclear FCOM, can someone please confirm the procedure for the NG;

Light to moderate: do nothing
Severe: .76/280 kts for climb and .76/280/250 if descending. Cruise fly the FMC recommended thrust settings.

(Both situations you try and avoid and secure the cabin obviously)

I am seeing lots of people at the first sign of a jolt or puff of air, speed intervening to .76/280.

Turbulence can be subjective. For some people poo will come out when they think they've encountered severe whereas in reality it's moderate, at the most. Hence the overreaction.

Yes I agree. But is the above correct. In a word for most cases, 99% of the time you should do nothing.

It's been designed as a high speed wing and we should let it fly that way.

From an aerodynamic point of view, you're probably right. However, you're also responsible for the welfare of the fare paying passengers in the back, who are quite rightly much more interested in their own comfort than Mr Boeing's lovely wing.

If the turbulence is less than severe, why would you not choose a speed which makes the ride more bearable for those behind you without the 5 point harness?
