Some pilots could not care less about the 787 - just another airplane... In that case - please just skip this post. For those who are interested, I found a few pictures you might appreciate.

I know we will see more and more pictures of Qatar's first 787 leading up to the flyby at Farnborough. But for those interested, here's a better picture of it in motion at Boeing:

QATAR A7-BCB Boeing 787 First Flight | Flickr - Photo Sharing! (http://www.flickr.com/photos/moonm/7445660244/)

Looks great in the Goat paint scheme! It will be interesting to see 20-30 787s at Doha at the same time in a 3-4 years. Someone said on another website that the 787-800 is about the length of a 767-300.

A couple more 787 photos for those interested (especially for the QR pilots from the Airbus fleet apparently standing in line to fly it):

Is it just me or does it look like the 787 has WAAAY too many switches and buttons to be the "latest and greatest" we've managed to design? What's the A350 going to be like? Similar to today's airbuses or cleaned up even more?

CaptainProp,

To address your question above about how advanced the flight deck is, see the following two videos:

Had my "20 minutes of fame" in the sim a few months back, limited time to play with anything, but it looked nice...seemed to handle like a 767...:ok:

And it generates enough electricity to light up a small city, or a few flight controls if ALL the hydraulics disappear...

I found this latest video showing the 787 going through its routine pre-airshow. The video is OK - I don't care for the infrared views or the music selection :yuk:. One thing is for certain though - the 787 in QR paint scheme looks great! :ok: :ok: A beautiful aircraft and I am sure anyone at QR lucky enough to fly the 787 will be proud of it.

Look at the video link below (and try not to be distracted by the infrared views and the lame music):

FARNBOROUGH: Exclusive air-to-air video footage of Qatar's new 787 Dreamliner (http://www.flightglobal.com/news/articles/farnborough-exclusive-air-to-air-video-footage-of-qatars-new-787-dreamliner-373859/)

No surprise the weather was rainy during the filming.... :}

Nice vid, it's really cool to see the jet exhaust in infra red, it's not something you can see in such clarity in the visual spectrum.

Funny how fight global played Indian Music during the video, don't they know or care about the difference between Qatar and India? I mean just visit the country and have a look around, you can clearly tell that your not in India. :}:}:}:}:} hehehehe

I like the big "QATAR" letters printed on the belly of the airplane (see in the video). You can bet the display will include a turning flyby that displays those letters for the crowd. I am sure Al Baker and his bossess will like that! :ok:

I also like the look of those curved wings in the video. Nice that the main Boeing display pilot formerly flew airshow displays in US Air Force F-22A Raptors!

Superb - this is the Captain who's been singled out as running a 'semi' covert P2F scheme on the side, for EZY Flexi-Crew - Now the curious masses know what he looks like Iver.

Poor chap - he's only trying to earn an honest living.

787 cockpit still looks like a 1960's tractor - shame..........

@Craggenmore if the 787 cockpit looks like a 1960's tractor to you, then pass on some of the stuff you are taking buddy.

787 looks tremendous, congrats to all QR crew who will have the opportunity to fly it soon!

Ex-A380-800 Driver,

Ok, I'll take the bait. :} Compare the following two pictures:

Again, both great if lucky enough to fly one - I'd gladly fly either if given the opportunity! :ok:

The Bus might have a more advanced cockpit, but it is also WAAAAY more complicated.
I would take the simpler, less advanced Boeing office, thank you very much!
Cheers!

Just in case u Airplane managers get too excited about the latest software loaded onto the hardware that you have to monitor, here's a look at what pilots used to fly:

What I would give to fly one of those.

Many still do fly the B737-200. This is where a pilot learned to fly, in Canada. Western Canada, mountainous flying...Castlegar, Penticton, Kamloops, Terrace, then next day up to Resolute Bay. Three days later we'd show up in Grande Cayman and Montego Bay. We had to develop CRM skills or you wouldn't survive or land at any of these difficult airports.
