View Full Version : Rule of thumb

I'm looking for a "rule of thumb" for the relationship between descent rate and airspeed. If a descent rate (e.g. imposed by ATC) is increased, is it possible to calculate/guess the increased aispeed in (IAS or TAS)?

e.g. Normal rate of descent 2000ft/min and IAS 220, ATC ask for 3000ft/min, what would the IAS be?

Can a similar rule be applied to reduction of airspeed if ATC ask for increased climb rate?

Does shuch a rule (it it exists) apply to all types of aircraft (from snall single props to
4-jet whiz-bangs)?

The truth is inside!
