hi guys,

just refreshing some ATPL theory and trying to get the full understanding of the 2 way comms failure in ifr. The oxford manuals and the Gary Bristow 'Ace the Technical' book tend to differ somewhat with their explanations.

Just hoping that some current pilot who is up to speed on this could kindly share their knowledge on this procedure.

Much appreciated!

Thanks guys :ok:

Pick up the phone, refer to address listing and call? :ok:

I know a guy who is reputed to, when told a "call on downwind" in a Citation, did just that, picked up the phone called HPN tower. They were not amused.

If you are operating only in the U.K. I would suggest that you refer to UK AIP either the Comms or IFR section. It will spell out the procedure to follow. That is what it is for. :hmm:

If you can get hold of a grey Aread Flight Information Supplement, it's explained in their well.

Some more info here: IFR Communications Failure Procedures (http://scottsasha.com/aviation/handbook/ifrcommfail/avef.html)

Many UK airfields have their own comms failure procedures after departure:ok:
