A380 Overweight?

There aree rumours that the A380 may have similar weight/range problems to the MD11 ... this from atwonline.com:

Airbus last week denied a report that it is struggling to lighten the A380 by up to
25 tonnes to meet the requirements of its future customers.

The report, which appeared on the website of French magazine Air & Cosmos, claimed that the A380's top engineers were called back from their holidays for an emergency meeting to find ways to reduce the plane's weight by 20-25 tonnes. "There was no emergency meeting and it's a lot less than 20 tonnes overweight," reacted an Airbus spokesperson, adding, "We will take the measures necessary to meet the customers' requirements." The A380 became heavier than initially planned when Airbus asked engine manufacturers GE-Pratt & Whitney Engine Alliance and Rolls-Royce to increase the diameter of the fans at the front of each engine to 116 in. in order to meet tougher noise regulations.

Seems to be quite typical that an a/c gets a little overweight during final development. No need to worry about. Especially as the A380 is the smallest member of a family intended for significant further growth on later models.

Well, the A380 will come and it will be a success!
As it is right now in the developing stage, these rather insignificant little problems will of course occur as it did with any other aircraft ever build. Whatever Airbus must do to meet the specs will done, no doubt.
Surely interesting that it might have some weight difficulties right now, but it most certainly will not endanger the program nor do I think that the engineers were recalled on a emergency "please make it fly" kind of a thing.

Kerosene Kraut - so how big does Airbus think they can grow this family of aircraft to, then? 1,000+ pax? Whilst that would certainly help cut down air traffic, I'd be very concerned about the airport infrastructure requirements - and imagine the outcry if a fully laden one goes down.

Guv, many airports are ready for 380s even today. Not that much of a change. Most likely mods on taxi-turns, ground pressure and of course check-in facilities. 1000-Pax quite likely to be expected later. Still relatively small span.

Why is everyone so touchy? This is a rumour network - so somebody posts an interesting (and potentially true rumour) and is roundly slagged off for it.
