Which Regional Jet -60 to 80 pax- has the best performance to operate from runways 4500/ 5000 feet and fly to a destination two hours away. It could also be an aircraft that is no longer in production.

I'll start the ball rolling with a BAe 146. Should do the job.

Forgot to add that it has to be a Twin Engine jet....Oops

Does it have to be a Jet?

Otherwise a Dash 8 - Q400 does all the above

Yes, it has to be a twin jet.

How about the Embraer 145 as flown by bmi regional and Flybe. Regional have the best On Time Performance four years in a row, and I hear the Embraer 145 is quite economical, but only 50 seats.

If your question did not stipulate a jet, I would second the Q400 - not the nicest looking machine though!!

EMB 145 can't take 60-80 pax.

You'd be looking at CRJs for that kind of pax load, but runway performance might be an issue.

Q400s or RJss are your next best options, if you are flexible enough to have a prop or 4 engines.

Otherwise you could be looking at stepping up to a Fokker F70/F100, larger Embraer 170/190 or an A318.. both of which have demonstrated good short field performance in LCY tests and have seats for 100+.

146 without a doubt. Great looking as well imho... its the first jet that must come to everyone's minds first!

The Embraer 170 would do it easily with enough fuel for 2 hours. (70-80 seats).

Even the slightly bigger Embraer 175 could do it (78-88 seats)
Take Off Field Length, ISA, SL, TOW for 500nm 4,137ft
Landing Field Length, SL, MLW 4,278ft

Cheaper to operate than the 146/Avro RJ (apart from initial purchase costs), 146's are 2 a penny now...

Good luck.
