Grateful to Luton for a radar service on CAM-WCO and return legs today in messy wx, particularly for the offer to climb into the CTA to increase separation from a converging track separated by just 400 ft. I wonder how London LARS is going to manage a trick like that? ;)

The other one will be on the LARS freq.

Then again...........!

Stuck record I know, but I have to say thanks again for a RIS Saturday afternoon on a WCO-CAM leg with gliders everywhere. Very pragmatic service despite being quite busy, and a very significant aid to safety. Thank you Sir.

As a regular rotary wing zone crosser, I would agree that the Luton controllers are very helpful folk indeed (as are all the London area controllers).

However, sometimes it is obvious (from listening out on frequency for a minute or so before transmitting) that they are obviously under a daunting workload. In those instances I go round / under the airspace so as not to add to the bunfight!

As a Luton controller it's nice to be appreciated.

Thank you. :)

So Bookworm, you were being provided with RIS, and ATC separated you from other traffic; but RIS is for pilots to provide their own separation!
Actually most controllers (regretfully not all) would probably have done something to resolve a confliction like this, irrespective of service being provided.

I will add my thanks as well. They do look after us quite well and are a forgiving bunch for the odd indiscretion.:ok::ok:

Blondie I hope you got some Haribos.

And if I'd asked for a RAS I would have been adding to an already busy workload, not because I would have got the RAS but because he would have fallen off his seat laughing at the request. ;)

But seriously, that's what I mean by "pragmatic". Just because you can't offer standard separation and a RAS doesn't mean you can't help to resolve a conflict.
