Italian ATC strike Tuesday 22 May

I am amazed that the Italians can call a strike with almost no notice to their users/customers. Don't the EU have rules about that sort of thing? Oh, I forgot, this is Italy.
All flights between 0800 and 1600 local have been cancelled.
The cancellations affects many hundreds of AC Milan fans who have flights and game tickets booked for today. I don't suppose the ATC staff have engendered too much sympathy with the Italian public!

And this on a day when the Italian government says it is willing to sell its entire 49.9 percent stake in Alitalia.

If you're interested, you have until July 2 to put in a binding offer.....don't all rush at once.

If there are, surely compensation claims could be made?

But don't for one moment consider WHY they have had to resort to strike action will you MB27. Let me tell you that after 34 years loyal service, the way I've been treated by my employers in the past couple of years, I wouldn't hesitate to go on strike if the reason was valid. And do you know what, I couldn't give a toss for my customers anymore, simply because I know that they (just like you MB27) don't give a toss about me!

Apologies for rant. Just back from holiday and now have to go back to the stress of working for an organisation that's rapidly going down the drain due to unqualified and highly incompetent management. Roll on retirement!

Sorry Avman, but you are out of line. := I have no knowledge of your problems with your employer. I have not voiced any opinion over the situation, regardless of whether I support the action or not. I have not made any negative comments. Therefore I have no idea why you are aiming your response directly at me.

I do however, know 50-100 pax due to fly back today to the UK, on various flights today. This (of course) is the No1 concern in my mind at present. The short notice of this strike is causing chaos for thousands who are not even aware of your problems.

Therefore I have asked a sensible question to try and gauge the financial implications today will have.

I would care for you if you voice your opinion in an appropriate fashion, which you have not. Apologies, but your ranting will only cause further negative opinions over the strike. Why can't you voice your opinion properly, then I probably would be very sympathetic towards you.

hopefully not.
we are stranded here trying to get a poorly plane home. if it carries on 2morro and i cant get home for the match, i can at least watch it here in milan.......with my liverpool shirt on.

on a serious not, us and our ops seem to think it ends at 6pm Local tis eve.

does anyone know why they have called the strike?

MB27, look at your first post again If there are, surely compensation claims could be made? and try and understand how this may read to someone who doesn't have the benefit of reading what's in your mind. Your second post explains more clearly the reason behind your question.

As for strikes, I'm afraid that for a strike to be effective it needs to be at short notice and it needs to inconvenience a whole load of people. It's otherwise a complete waste of time.

Expect more strikes this Summer, and not just in Italy!

that's Italy!! Everyone strikes here.. today I strike, tomorrow you strike and the day after tomorrow someone else will strike.. it's not possibile..I do not know the specific reason of the ENAV strike but can surely say that in Italy there are too many protected categories..when the government "touches" one of these categories, off they are the next day striking everywhere...I wonder if this happens in other countries too..

I think u r the 1 2 apologise m37, Im sure there was a lead up 2 this action, and it was not a spur of the moment thing??? Think about flight safety 4 all those passengers that u show so much concern 4??? Wrking under added stress, does not allow 4 great flight safety??? But of course its just another buck, that u have not made!!! This is not the 1st, and wont b the last industrial action from ATCS world wide???:confused:
