im so sorry to hear that, mat2k.:uhoh: maybe you can try to reapply after 6 mos. the recruitment process is really weird i think. we don't even know what they are looking for! i guess its all luck and if the job is really for you, then it will definitely be given. :) good luck!

Honestly, it starts off being all about your look. Ive seen crew almost everyday for a year, and honestly, i can tell the look they go for. I seen girls there at the assesment day who i knew would definatly get through. And they did.

mat2k
28th Apr 2007, 20:02
lol...then it may means I'm ugly?
nah
many good looking guys were rejected, even guys who were curently stewards. actually, almost all the members of the "rejected crew" were males.

Charlene85

No!! Thats not what i ment! I got rejected and im not saying im ugly! Im just saying, they like a certain look. xx

charlene, could you maybe share with us what the look is that you think they are looking for? might be helpfull or might save us the hassle even trying :}
thx

Lol, i should of just kept my mouth shut!! Dont shoot the messenger! Its not my fault they are picky! Why dont u think they give you feedback from your interview? To cover themselves on discrimination obv! U know how they are about any scarring on the face! I dont think its fair, but what can u do?

29th Apr 2007, 14:49
Charlene85, sorry you didn't make it through the whole process. When I was at the assesment, a lot of different people got through, not only the best looking ones. And yes it's not fair if they did it because of a scar:ouch: But like you said, what can one do? Is it really that visible? I think you should just forget about them, try for another airline, YOU'LL MAKE IT HUN:) !!!
You have the right attitude and you'd be perfect for the job!

Charlene85
29th Apr 2007, 15:24
Thank you! Yeh i will try for another airline in the meantime, and maybe in a years time or so, i will reapply for emirates. I guess it just wasnt my time this time! Good luck to every1 though who is waiting to hear or who is just starting the waiting game!! xx

Now that my deception is almost gone, I'm thinking that maybe charlene is right, the look may have made the difference...but before I apply everyone was telling me I look like a steward...anyway...:8 ...
That is surely the only reason; since they invited me - and some other peoples I talked to - from my resume on internet, and then, it's like, when they had it on hard copy at the open day, they didn't like it anymore, it doesn't make sense...so I guess me look no good :E

I'm not entirely sure about this whole 'certain look' business. I'm currently employed by EK and I have my fair share of acne and chicken pox scars.

To be honest, it's not really whether you have the right look or not. It's whether or not you are qualified, whether or not you are keen, and whether or not you are prepared to look your best on the day. You'd be surprised how many people do rock up, just to see what it's like, just to see how far they can get.

I had to work a breakfast shift before going to my interview, I had spilt scambled eggs on my pants, and I was convinced I wasn't going to get in.

But I participated (but didn't dominate) in the group discussions. I spoke about my customer service experience, about angry customers and my actions following their complaints. I did what I could grooming wise - black pants (changed to a skirt for the final interview), white business blouse, black, figure hugging jacket, neutral makeup, nude stockings, groomed nails, clean hair tied in a ponytail.

In group discussions when we had to introduce ourselves, I made sure what I said was memorable, and tried not to repeat what others had said. Whenever I spoke it was clear, whenever I didn't speak I was smiling. I was actively listening to both the interviewers and to other potential recruits who were speaking.

I don't know if this will help anyone, but this is pretty much what I did. Don't be discouraged if you do get that letter... there are girls who have been accepted on their 6 attempt.

Good luck...

Hello All!
Ive read all the pprune forums and for about 3 months too but this is my first ever post. I initially applied online whilst I was In lebanon (Middle east) but due to some circumstances I only submitted it when I relocated to Ghana(west africa). In less than a month, I was sent an email asking me to attend the preliminary interview. That was when pprune, Helfisch, Casablanca85, Motherhen, Emiratesgal, and many more came into my life... Im sorry if i have left a few out.I want to thank you all for the sound advice and most of all, your narration of the experiences which is quite comforting to newcomers.

Anyway, i practically chewed and poured out the advice on this page and breezed through the selection proces, i believe it helped that i have lived in two very differenct cultures and speak Arabic as well. I got a call about 10 days after the final interview to check my email for the job offer. After going through a hectic medical process,(lots of shots to get, and lots of cash to spend), I sent the reports in by fax aaproximately one month ago but only sent in my pap smear results and second reference letter today as the medical structure in Ghana is quite slow and I had to request the reference letter all the way from lebanon.

The set departure date is 18th of May, yet I havent received any email stating my meds have been cleared and or received. I am kind of getting worried, my family and friends has already planned a whole weekend of parties, and we've even bought the stuff and hired the dj! Everyone seems to be so sure that i will get it, ive even began buying extra deo, shampoo, all that..and packing my suitcase... Also, I told them I woudl need at least 2 weeks to resign from my current job and truthfully, ever since the final interview, i have no interest in my job whatsoever! i cant wait to leave, i hope my departure date isnt set back! the best part? my boyf of three years lives in dubai and i havent seen him for 9 months!

so basically, after all my random babbling, is it normal to make the joiner wait this long? i mean, i only have 18 days to go, and still no approval (or dissaproval) of medicals?

P.S. HELFISCH; you are absolutely right, what with the scars, as long as they arent too intense, it is not a problem. For me, i have a few old pox marks on my legs but nothing wich cant be covered up with the famous stockings!

So i went to the Open Day in Paris and didnt get through either.

Mat: i counted the rows and nb of seat per row... we were over 140... actually around 170  eww

I went through the first stage (we were only 40 or so, if it can reassure you), actually there were still lots of guys, and not always good-looking/ nor with a good english. I don't understand well their recruitment criteria, i think it's just a matter of feeling they have anyway..

I didn't pass then the second stage, and as far as i know they weren't a lot to (from all the people i asked around, a few got it).
I don't know at all why i didn't get it, maybe in the group talk it's a matter of talking without being pushy and without showing yourself as the leader... that's how i wanted to behave first, but as everyone is trying to talk during those 4 min, it's hard not to take control at one point, if you want to be able to have a word...
Or maybe it's because i couldnt remember what was the title of the favorite movie of the girl seating next to me... (but i thought my fluent english, my confidence when talking in front of a group and my smiling/positive/sociable attitude would have been enough :uhoh:)
Uhm i don't really know what happened... I was rather serene... whatever, I'll try again in 6 months ;)
Now that i know that i am able to match the profile their looking for, I'll try again and see if i can go through more stages!

Oh and you guys know what happened to me? I received a missed call from Emirates the same day i've been out from the Open Day!!!
I called back but the guy couldn't tell me why i had been contacted before (it was apparently a calling center so he didnt know who called me)... hehe i imagined all kind of scenario ("ohhh please getting you out was an error, come back!" :p).. but they never called back :(

Anyway good luck to all of you folks trying the Open Day, and enjoy your new life in Dubai, for the lucky one that got thought! I'll be one of you in a little more than 6 months hopefully!

AfroArabianDoll,

Congrats on getting into Emirates thats a wonderful achievement and I hope the info you are waiting on comes through quickly! I couldn't help but noticed that you mentioned in your post that you "sent through pap test results".....

I have a question ....is this normal for airlines to request such a thing in their medical???? I used to fly for Qantas Airways and was never submitted to such a test for my medical. I find the idea rather invasive and ghastly and sexually discriminating quite honestly (do male applicants have to submit a prostate test result??)

I was going to go to an Emirates interview day later this month but that piece of info has put me off.

WildCherry, welcome, you'll probably find the info you need on the Emirates website - they generally list the dates and locations for Open Days on there.

WildCherry, hope this helps...
if you do not see your area in there, its best to keep checking www.emiratesgroupcareers.com (http://www.emiratesgroupcareers.com) for update (look under cabin crew opportunities). Alternatively, you can do what I did and register with www.airlinecareer.com (http://www.airlinecareer.com), they send you updates whenever any airline is having an open day.

lotsa luck,

Hi Tasha!

Thanks for your message and support. Yes I'm definitely motivated to try again in 6 months.. i have nothing to lose to try again! and maybe i will make better next time :ok: I can't wait those 6 months to be able to attend again hehe!

No I didn't call back Emirates because anyway if they were calling me to invite me to an Assessment Day (in case they didn't know yet i attended Paris Open Day), I couldn't have attended. :bored:

I hope they will see i would be a nice sociable flight attendant next time i attend! :O

take care!

Dear Wannabes, (To Bes, Have Beens, Ares and Fellow Would Have Beens),

I'll try to share my experience about the Open Day on the 29th. This post will be long. With that said:

I arrived to the Hyatt in Belgrade about 15 minutes before the scheduled start at 9 a.m. I traveled from a neighbouring country to attend the OD. I was dressed in business attire, and did my best grooming-wise. There were two nice recruiters there, and 160 candidates of all age and gender. I saw people in smart suits as well as in faded jeans and a sweater... We started at 9 a.m. sharp, we were split to two groups and we were asked to hand in our CVs to one of the two recruiters, when hading in the CVs we got a word with our "assigned" recruiter and were given a number as well as an information sheet about Emirates and a feedback form.

During the entire CV hand in, which lasted about an hour-hour and a half, we were shown recruitment videos. After this the recruiter who took my CV spoke about the company, the job, and living in Dubai. She was great, and she got us involved by asking questions (how many locations Emirates flies to, and what type of aircrafts does the company have etc.) I answered once or twice, I tried not to be pushy, and give opportunity to others. During the time the first recruiter was talking, the other was sorting the CVs out. At aroud 1 p.m. after having watched four recruitment videos and having been told a lot of nice things about the company we were asked to find the note with our number on it from among those placed on the tables at the side of the room. My letter said, that I unfortunately did not get through and that I should try again in 6 months. I was sad, but not devastated. I did, however have the following issues with the entire process:

1. The lady to whom I handed in my CV and who actually heard (and seemed to appreciate) my answers had no say in this stage of the selection process. She was the one who saw all of us, she saw our attitudes, heard our English and had a lot of contact with us, while the other lady was selecting based on the CVs only, thus all of our activity, our manners, level of English, smiles, grooming (or lack thereof) really counted nothing at this point.

2. They built us up during those four hours, selling the company to us to a point where I guess even a flying-phobiac would have given an arm to be an FA for Emirates. Knowing that 90% of those sitting in that room will get dismissed at the end of the day, building them up to let them down is not a good strategy, it is a waste of time and it only leaves a bad taste in many people's mouth. I, for one get over things easily but I saw some girls crying after reading their respective notes, and beleive me, they did not cry from joy. Had they not been shown what fun it is to work with Emirates before being rejected, they might have been a bit less disappointed.

3. The recruiter who did most of the talking said, that if we do not get called in for the next day, we should not get sad, because all the CVs will be taken back to Dubai and gone through once more. The rejection notes, however said, that we should try again in 6 months time, so the decision seemed final.

4. My guess (confirmed by some fellow candidates) is, that people who seem "overqualified" are likely to get rejected because it is assumed, that they will not stay on for long. I understand their motives and fears, but it would be good, if this criteria (maximum desireable level of education) would be made explicit prior to people putting energy in applying and attending open days. Would save lots of time for all parties involved in the process.

My follow up: today I have received an invitation vie e-mail to an upcoming Open Day in Vienna. I am confused, for I do not know now if my CV was reconsidered and I am given another opportunity, or whether this is a late reaction to my on-line application and I should just forget about it.

I tried to be objective, and any criticism here is NOT a "sour grape" reaction to being rejected. I merely shared my observations about the process itself, and despite apparently being out of the game, I do give a big thumbs up to all the wannabes out there, and at the end of the day I admire those two recruiters for their stamina, because they really worked hard during the Open Day.

I wish you all the best, and sorry for the length of this post!

Hi Samya,

Its always good to hear peoples different thoughts on these open days.

Although I have been relatively successful up to this point (waiting for the call) I can certainly take on board what you are saying.

Hope and excitement is definitely built up....before the real recruitment stage has even started you want this job more than anything...plus chatting to those around you while waiting, seeing how excited and fab they are, making friends with them in such a short time only to be told "sorry try again in 6 months" would be a massive let down.

Im not too sure at what stage they should show those videos of desert sunsets, beautiful arabian dancers and happy Emirates Cabin Crew smiling into the camera to be honest.
They want everyone to have a buzz about the company, even if they walk away unsuccessful so you will want to come back and try again.
This is a double edged sword though it seems and can lead to big disappointment as much as it can lead to big excitement.

Keep on trying, definately dont give up.

After reading these boards and talking to CC at Emirates I get the feeling that quite often, the ones who get through have done so through perseverance, not just experience, grooming & disposition. ;)

For those of you..who are considering moving the the UAE... i came across the report from a post on the middle east forum. It's an interesting read into the culture. It may help you in deciding if it's for you. Local rules and laws etc...

Here's the link

http://uaereport.homeblock.com/

for example:
1.)Sexual harassment is very common in the UAE. Lots of Arabs, Indians and Pakistanis are asking women “how much?” and other indecent questions on the street or chase single women in their cars

2.)Kissing or showing affection in a public is not allowed, you might get into prison. We were separated quite often, even in a hotel swimming pool:

3.) Skype is blocked. Voice over IP is "illegal" in the UAE (local telecom company Etisalat is still a monopoly):

To HostieHoney

Hello again!:)

Thanks for the congrats!

About the pap smear, truthfully I cannot tell if it is normal for airlines to request such a medical examination because EK is the first airline I have ever applied for. I was kind of surprised when I read in my medical forms that I have to go for one. I believe the reason for this is they want to be aware of any irregularities you may have beforehand as they provide full medical insurance for FA's. Never having taken one of those, I just took it as a suggestion because I should be regularly checking anyways.

The pap smear determines if you have any abnormal cells which may lead to cervical cancer, right? Well at least thats what my research and doctor told me, so I guess its no harm. Both ways, I hope this helped.
Im not sure of males have to provide a result from prostate exams, but i will inquire about that from a male applicant on this forum who has made it through the selection process as well.

Dont let that put you off though darling, its just for their medical doctors information and your medical insurance.

If u need any other questions answered that I can help u with, feel free to PM me!

Update on my process: I called them 2 days ago and asked what was up with my meds, they checked and asked me to resend my dental records cuz they had not received it, probably got lost somewhere in their pile of papers, i can only imagine how humungus that pile must be!

Cheers and good luck to all,

I just read the post from Samya (http://www.pprune.org/forums/member.php?u=167534), and I have to say having been to one assessment day and reading all the posts on this section, I feel more and more confused what they are looking for.

Can someone really be rejected because they have higher education? Does that mean we should try not to answer or ask questions after the video session?

please help....and anyone is going to the assessment day in London next week?

mytcrew
5th May 2007, 13:56
Of course not!! I have a 4 year degree in marketing management, worked in HR and have 3 years CC experience and I got it. I think the reason why many with degrees and experience get cut off is if they have an attitude, or come out as someone who are stuck up a.s.o

Just as long as you are humble and not bragging about it, it's of course an asset!!!!!! Why would anyone think different? All employers want people that are cooperative, kind and humble, so as long as you show off those qualities, it doesn't matter what your background is!

And yes, ask questions is you feel you have one that's appropriate and not an obvious one. I remember I asked if they flew turnaround flights(even though I knew they did) just to show I was interested in more than just layovers a.s.o

Just be positive and friendly! Good luck! It's truly a fun day!!!!
Hope I helped you out at least a bit;)

And I went to the assesment in London as well:) DOn't be overconfident, be relaxed but show them that you are an outgoing person with energy and peopleskills:):):)

Wish you all the best, and hope to see you in Dubai soon!!!!

I dont know what they are looking for I came out very confused.

I got through the 1st cut but not the 2nd...

I am a manager in a highly skilled customer service enviroment dealing in a specialist area I speak to customers everyday,,,,, but that wasnt enough?

They didnt get to know me? They didnt interview me? Plus I have a travel qualification?

I got through to final interview at Etihad and To be honest Etihad was my 1st choice anyway, but I cannot understand what they look for etihad was a much more pleasant experience,,,,

If you fail at emirates got for Etihad there human at least

sorry to sound bitter but it was an awful day. Never again.

Regarding pap smears, they give you the option of not providing results if you desire, however should you develop cervical cancer or other such complications within your time in the company you will not be covered by insurance.

If you've already had the test done in your home country then you can simply ask your doctor to fax through the results, as you won't be tested in Dubai when the medical checks take place. The next time you'll be required to be tested in Dubai is 3 years after the date of the latest pap smear done in your home country.

Hope that helps.

I would guess that won't be a big problem:= ..As long as you can communicate effectively, you dont really have to be fluent in english, although it is an advantage, but look you speak spanish fluently:ok: , and most of the airline company look for someone who can speak more than one language..:) :) :) :)

Goodluck to you..

Anyone know when Emirates will have Open Day in Brisbane?

Casablanca85
6th May 2007, 18:50
A salam Alaykum:-)

Hey Wannabes:-) Long time i did not have enough time to post......

want to make some things sure......

Is is a must that you are 100% fluent in English, because that`s the language in the aviation and the whole training here is also in English.....but if you are going to an open day and you will make it through several rounds you will be supposed by our recruiters to make an english test to show your skills.

EK is not looking for over-qualified personnel and it is not nessecary to have airline experience, they even prefer applicants with no cc experience as they can train them exactly the way they want. You can be over-qualified, it doesn`t matter but pleae stay as natural as you are because all those who talk too much about their "Sooooooooo high qualifications" will get the penalty:-) I wish you all good luck, don´t give up as it also took me 2 times to join this airline:-) see y`all in dubai!

Hey marialexandra:) .. I've been through all the recruitment rounds and still waiting for my reply. I'm getting into the 4th week of "the wait".

Anyway... with regards to the English requirements, what i did gather from being through the recruitment process is that you don't have to be extremely fluent in the language, but you do need to be comfortable using it. As long as you can speak clearly and without too much hesitation you should be fine. However, they do conduct an English test somewhere after the first discussion group cut and the test will require you to have a good understanding of English, specifically comprehension and the meanings of words. For example, they'll ask you to read a sign with instructions and then mark what it means to say. As long as you can manage all that you should be fine. In the meantime I suggest taking an English course if you do have the time (the ones at British council are pretty good). It will help improve your English and up your confidence with using it:ok:.

Well I recieved the email yesterday saying I didnt get in

My advice out of all of this is dont count your chickens before they hatch.

I heard after 3 weeks, I sort of thought I may not get in but after the 2 week point I started to really get my hopes up.
I had heard from 2 girls in my group who got the rejection email after 8 days....so I really thought I had it after not hearing for what felt like so long.

I will re-apply but I cant do it for another whole year....sooo long.

::heavy heart:::(

Much love & luck to everyone....

Ohh and I have a question I was hoping someone could answer for me.

My email said I have to wait for 1 year before re-applying but the Emirates website says 6 months???

I dont get it, I would really like to re-apply after 6 months but dont want to peeve anyone at Emirates off by not following their rules.

I guess I will do what it says on the email but Ughh 6 months would be ALOT easier for me to deal with than a whole year!!!

I was also wanting to contact them to find out exactly what constitutes as "High School Equivalent"??
Can I just sit some sort of equivalency test? or do I have to actually complete a course over a period of time (say 6 months :O)

I would really like to email Emirates to find this out for sure before committing to a course that isn't suitable to get me this job.

Can anyone PM me a contact email for them or is it on the site and I just cant see it?? (or do they just not want anyone who didnt succeed to contact them?)

Sorry for your result. Hope you have better luck next time se we can meet in Dubai.
The waiting period to re-apply is actually 6 months. BUT if you make it through to the Final Interview and fail on that part, then you MUST wait a whole year. Those are the rules, which you may find on the website.
Sorry to say that but I really wish you the best.
I always think like this ever since my Open Day: If it is meant to be, IT WILL BE.
Otherwise, don`t worry and Keep Discovering..

may i ask the reason why you got rejected after the final interview? do you know the reason? yes, i have read from their site that if you get in until the final interview, you would have to wait for a year. im sorry but dont lose hope. you might also wanna try other airlines while waiting for EK :)

Thanks EK-CCMember x

Flying Explorer - I didnt complete high school, I left after year 11 but after 10 years as a Make up artist have (recently) gone on to recieve my Certificate IV in Finance/Mortgage Broking

I assumed that would be enough as it is not an easy qualification to achieve but as soon as I walked into the interview they said "didnt you read the pre-requisit??"
I said I had selected "completed yr 11" with further study.
She said I had to have completed year 12 but then continued on with my interview???
I assumed seeing as she didnt just walk me out immediately that I had a chance.

I understand that they need to have a basic requirement and having completed High School is it.
But I left as I was offered a great opportunity to work as a freelance Make Up Artist, which I loved for 10 years and up until now, never regretted that decision to pursue that dream.

So maybe it was something else all together.

The problem is that I really want this job, I wish I could ask them if my lack of a high school diploma was the reason I didnt get it.:ouch:

HI,
Emirates really look for what ever they fell like it on the day. I was with them for 4 years and let me tell you it is hard work because of the passenger profile. You dont have to fit into any catorgory. ANYONE can do what they do! Trust me there are some monkeys working there!!

Hi Tasha_28

I am so sorry to hear you didn't get a positive answer, I am sure you would have been a great Flight Attendant for EK: open-minded, friendly and helpful!
Don't lose faith, and try to think that the next year can be an opportunity to do new things, to prepare yourself better, and maybe get a degree that can satisfy them.
Also try other airlines companies, like Ethiad...

I see those next 6 months i have to wait before re-applying as an opportunity to improve my foreign languages skill, have another work experience abroad, read more about EK (i still follow the discussions on this board e.g)... and also to think about other options than EK for my career...

I understand it may have been very tough to read that email after building up projects and being excited. :uhoh: EK recruitment process can be very tough. :(

i send you some cheers up and good luck for everything!

hello all, thanks for all comments you guys wrote in, they really help.

I have just one question. actually I'm the one who didnt pass the final interview in japan last year and now have to wait for a year to re-apply.
I just read a comment in other site, one says she was also a finalist but she did horrible in the final interview(just like me ww). she waited a year and re-applied but didnt even pass the FIRST STAGE!!!

now I really worried that same situation happen to me!
do emirates recruiments leave personal information (like I did too bad in the final interview) even after a year?
I really hope not!!:\

Hi Tasha.

How annoying about your experience! I don't know whether Emirates would accept the following idea, but maybe you could check it out if you really want to work for them...

Have you heard of the SATs? They're standardised tests that are used for college admissions in the US. It isn't so much a certificate of education; it's moreso a test that produces a result that compares you to others who have taken that test. I know a few unis in NSW accept this test as an alternative to a Higher School Certificate.

As i said, it isn't the same as completing the final year of high school. So i don't know whether it will count. However, it will give you a mark/grade/result that will allow you to show that you have a certain standard of knowledge and understanding in relation to subjects that are studied at high school. And it would save you going to an extreme like completing your final year of high school.

Hey all...i posted this question before but it went un-answered...
this is extremely important... as my partner is wanting to leave...and need's to get some info from those who have done it.

Does any one have any information on if you can leave Emirates during your intial training of 5 weeks? So for example if you get there and you start your training and realise that it's not for you...how do you leave and what is the process...What do you have to pay back etc? can it be done??? and how??? Has anyone done it??? any information would be greatly appreciated....

cheers,

hello everybody,

just want to share my good news in the hopes that it will enlighten the new applicants to the process. After a month or so of waiting for an email stating that my meds were approved (or not), i finally made the call (one of many) to HR. They said 2 of my documents were missing although I had sent them, I resent them, and then on sunday, they emailed me with the subject "RESIGNATION", In other words i had to hand in my resignation and send them the confirmation by fax as soon as possible. Did that this morning.

sooooooooo, to cut a long story short, im leaving in ten days and you know what? im happy-sad-happy.:ugh:

I love this forum, thanks to whoever started it in the first place, and most of all to md13 who gave me some real good advice (persistence eh? hehehhehe:} , ill definately see u there, have a wonderful flight!)... Ill keep everyone posted with what happened and will be sure to post my dates (final interview, medicals needed email, meds approved...etc...) so others can have an idea of how long the process took!

Good luck to all,

Hi there,
I am a new member here.I am very very interested in working for either Emirates or Etihad as a cabin crew and I am gonna walk in for their open day soon.
The thing is the image of cabin crew in my mind is "tall and slim".OK,i have no problem with height because I am 165 cm,but when it comes to the weight or body size,i am really not confident.I am wearing size 12-14(australian size)You do guys thinkg it is gonna be a problem?Do I need to be slim to get selected?Anyone please help. This really does keep worrying me.Am I too fat to be recruited?

AfroArabianDoll
8th May 2007, 14:06
To Smileywitch,

hi,
technically speaking, what you need to do is figure out your Body Mass Index, if you are on the obese side, they you know you shouldnt apply because truth be told, they want people whose height is proporttionate to their weight. they do state a bmi range that you have to fall into (after you get selected and are sent the medical forms).

I believe its something like this, (will check and let you know for sure):

BMI Categories:

Normal weight = 18.5-24.9
Overweight = 25-29.9
Obesity = BMI of 30 or greaternow, personally speaking, you are a woman, a woman should never call herself fat, there is no such thing, there is only "curvier than all those skinny ones in the mags". Im not what you would call a skinny person, neither am I lean, i like to think of myself as having all the right curves in all the right places. and i got through.

find out your weight, heres a site that can help you figure out your BMI: http://www.nhlbisupport.com/bmi/bmi-m.htm

You have to be self confident if you want to make it through.
Lots of luck!

Hi there, I'm new to this forum...I really want to work for EK...and I want to submit an online application for Emirates cabin crew but the problem is i'm located in the middle of nowhere! (Hawaii, USA)...Even if i'm qualified, I'm afraid the Emirates HR won't be entertaining me because I'm too far from any of the neighboring countries that they do have their Accessment Day. Does EK disregard applicants from regions they don't recruit? What;s the best step to take? I'd appreciate any advice...Thank you:confused:  :p

Hi petiteGurl (http://www.pprune.org/forums/member.php?u=175533),

I think EK accept application from all over the world, however you may need to fly to the city where the assessment day is located at your own cost. If i were you , just have a go anyway, and see what will happen next.
good luck!

Yeah, you are right...if you want something so badly, you'd do anything for that. Since Japan is the nearest country to me (still a 8 hours flight, haha!) , I'll consider to fly there for the assessment if I'm lucky enough to be invited...I better start saving for the trip!
Well, another thing is...I'm way underweight (163cm/40kg)...I'm one of those lucky gurls that can't gain weight no matter how much I try to eat...but I'm worried about this now because I read somewhere that EK might think that you're incapable to work long hours and can't lift those lugguges if you are way underweight. ..but I'm totally healthy...:ok:

well i recently applied for a job with Emirates, made all the screening process's and the final interview and just found out last week that i was unsuccesful. If i would like to reapply with Emirates i have to wait 12 months..

im dissapointed though! life goes on!! im busy putting my applications in to other alternative airlines... Im thinking of Etihad... i think there is an opening day in BNE on the 14th....

Anyone going to that?

well...I didn't manage to get very far either....anyway, I think you do need to try to show that you are interested in meeting people, just try to chat with people if u can, but remeber don't say anything negative about EK or other company. Smile a lot!!
If you are not confident speaking english in front of a group....try to work on it...also i was amazed that so many people were eliminated after the english tests.

Last but not least, watch your body language!! e.g don't cross your arms or legs..and try to lean forward a bit during the group dicussion to show that u are interested in that....do try to contribute to the discussion, but not to overtake...too bossy is not good either!!

I think your age is close to the limit, but u should be ok...and I feel they like people who has previous experience, most people who has previous experience as a CC managed to get through. Good luck!!

I'm also new here as i had no idea that ek crew had a forum...which i find pretty cool actually.I worked for ek for about 4 years passed SFS and then well i chose to leave DXB to move on to other directions..i've got great memories from Dubai and Emirates itself.Needless to say that it is a really good and unforgettable experience!it's been 2 years and half now that i left but i'm still in touch with friends that i met in DXB.For those who the adventure is about to begin, enjoy it as much as you can! It's a lot of work though...the 5 weeks training are quite exhausting but once you've done them..the real adventure starts...working with different nationalities is interesting but can be sometimes difficult. There are som many things to say regarding life in Dubai and being EK CC...
Always keep in mind that time flies when you're over there...being in Dubai isn't for the rest of your life...

I am to leave 1st June and I just received the final approval two days ago. I posted a complaint here about the whole point of asking us for resignation notice period and then taking their own sweet time regardless? It is weird. I sent in my medicals on the 3rd April and immediately called to check if they received. I got an email saying they did, and will check through. FIVE grand weeks later I got an email (after I called them) saying my form is incomplete because one box wasn't checked. I had to visit the same doctor to get it filled, then send again.

I stated on several ocassions I need two months' notice preferably as I need to sort out stuff (I am self-employed). But as the date drew closer I took the risk and as early as April I started preparing my clients telling them I'm leaving.

What I can see is, they're now looking at your files and they realised your joining date is coming up. From here on they will process your medicals pretty quickly (quite unheard of coming from EK heh). If you can't shorten your notice period with your employer then you'll have to request for a later departure date. Oh man, we could be in the same training batch!

Hi! Ive been to 3 Emirates open days in the past and have never got past the first round.. Are Emirates quite strict on moles or marks because i do have one rather noticeable 'Beauty spot' on the side of my nose and was wondering if that was a deterrent for them along with tattoo's and scars??

Also do they measure your height at any stage of the interview?

Thanks!!

dont know about the beauty spots but they do a reach test and you have to be able to reach it. think its 214cm. you should just keep trying. i got through for emirates and have just had to send more photos away to them so im still waiting to hear

Do they not like people with scars? when i was younger i MAY have walked into the corner of a wall.. i now have a scar in my eyebrow.. it's not usually noticable.. but depending on the day, and the way the hairs are going... it can be more noticeable.. hope this wouldnt be a problem

Hey Per210...and to anyone else for whom this might be relevant,

About the scar, I think as long a you can cover it up it shouldn't be a problem. Even skin conditions like acne and eczema are apparently acceptable as long as they are managed well, so I dnt think it'll be much of a problem.

I have quite a few scars on my legs myself, and I simply used concealer to cover them up. Perhaps a good concealer could cover yours up too.

Hi fly.high

They ´ll observe you all the time, you have to keep your smiling. If your gap is on the front try to fix before you go, but if it is not don´t worry and relax, they want simpatic people.

Good luck

Hi Guys,

Just joined after reading this thread..

Great site and very useful and guiding advice for preparing myself - although you can never be sure whats going to happen on the day.

I'm looking at attending the open day in brisbane but wanted to ask the Emirates crew what child care arrangements there are for Flight Attendants working for Emirates?? (if any?)

Is having a child (single mother with full custody) a deterrant to being employed by Emirates?

Thanks for your help!

InshaAllah Kheir for everyone going through the recruiting process at any stage..

Love Yasminka xxx

Are you waiting for your approval after the final interview?? Good luck!!!

skt84: If you go to a private doctor there should not be a problem with you getting x rays, it's not required that Emirates write something else, just show the doctor your medical documents and that you need an xray:)

Linda,

I wish you all the best:) I also got etihad, but when I got EK there was no doubt whatsoever. The reason is that I know many from both EY and EK and I know Ek is better. But if I hadn't got EK i would have loved to work for EY!! :)

I had to wait 5 weeks for my results from Dubai after my final interview, had mine in London March 12. With Etihad I heard back after 2 weeks.

The medicals with EK involves eyecheck, dental check, vaccinations, hearing, general questions, and x rays. The x rays have to be brought to dubai when you move out, or you can take them there and they will take it off your salary..Also bloodtests;hiv a.s.o.

I had to book appointments with a dentist, doctor, radiologist, a place to take vaccinations and another doctor for the hearing thing:)

The same with EY but no need for hearing test and the eyesighttest is not that complicated. However you need more vaccinations with EY..

Really, good luck, hope you get them both or at leat I hope you get Emirates;)

Have a nice day!

Hi, I am new on this forum, Amazed me how everyone on this forum are so helful and encouraging.
I had my final interview in Malaysia, cos there was recruitment in hk. The girls and I were thrilled when we were accepted on the open days, a month later, we were invited back for screening and assessment. Now that was nerve breaking. 4 eliminations later. only 15 left. I must said, we were drained being evaluated the whole process. There were so many pretty young girls. I don't really know how some poeple were chosen. I worked in the airlines industry before. Not that I am any better. but I don't know why some young girls in the airlines industry were not chosen.
But I just want to say to those who's been invited back to final interview. Pls don't worry too much, just be yourself. Mine was last week. after reading the forum, I know it is tiring to wait. Just do your best, and even if you don't get in, glad you made some friends and have fun. I don't know how long do ii have to wait. Good luck to those who going to the final interview. Feel free to ask me anything regards to the interview process. i will tell you as much as i know.http://www.pprune.org/forums/images/smilies/thumbs.gif

It can take from a week til many more;) I waited 5 weeks:)
You can phone them and make sure they have recieved your photos, number is listed here on an earlier post.

Lindaflychick:
I do believe EY will get you a faster promotion, besides you will start work in business straight away. But EK pays way more and you can get into business after 10 months if you don't have sick days:)

EY is an exciting airline, no doubt about that! It depends on whether you want to work for a huge brand like Emirates and be part of that group and enjoy those benefits. With Emirates you have really good career prospects besides working in the air! EK takes really good care of you as well, I don't have any regrets I chose EK over EY!!

Hi Oz

It was so great to come across this site.. I am new to it. I was wondering if you (or anyone else who has been through the 1 on 1 interview) let me know what questions you were asked in the interview so that I can better prepare myself.. I tend to freeze up. I have made it through to round two. My interview time has been set. If you could help I would really appreciate it.

Also, how are you finding it overall.. have you progressed within the company since joining?

I look forward to haring form you..

Hello everyone. First of all I`d like to thank you all for everything you guys post in here. It has been VERY helpful and I believe I am now prepared to attend the open day in Santa Cruz next wednesday. I`ve done pretty much everything you guys suggested: from practicing in front of the mirror (smiling, leaning forward, speaking slowly, etc) to having an organized folder with my entire carreer achievements as well as bunch on photos of myself, relatives, friends and such.

I am a 29yo male, I`ve been working for AA as Sales Representative for the last three-an-a-half years. My native language is spanish. What are your thoughts about me having a chance with EK? If I dont get pass the first round, how long until I can apply again? I noticed there is another open day in Buenos Aires in July, would that be too soon? Are they hiring male crew members at the moment?

I`d appreciate all of your comments as, like everyone else, I am rather excited about it!

The routes that have crew rest bunks are

New York - JFK (approx 14 hours)
Osaka (approx 9 hours)
Nagoya (approx 9 hours)
Sydney direct (14 hours)
Melbourne direct (14 hours)
Zurich, although we never use them (6 hours)

Keep in mind that length of flight does not nessessarily mean that it will be flown on an aircraft with bunks. The most known example being Perth (11 hours). The A340-500 in particular is used more for it's first class product than for crew rest.

However all flights over 8.5 hours, maybe 8 hours even, must have 4 hard-blocked seats for crew rest, so for a full Perth flight, you may find yourself having, 4 seats shared amongst 16 crew, a total of 45 minutes rest...

Hi there, am attending an interview this Thursday 31st. So far I have researched all the threads on EK and taken notes so I'm prepared for the day (fingers crossed) however one thing I'm not sure about is my hair. Sounds daft I know - It's bob length short at the back longer at the front, I can just about put it up however it requires about 50 kirby grips which looks a little ridiculous. Is it acceptable to wear it down, it just misses the top of my collar.

Thanks guys

I must admit I was rather nervous, but they were very nice girls, very relaxed. (Two aussie girls!) I feel more relaxed and confident now that I know what type of people I will find at the Openday. I heard they were the same ones that did the interviews in SAO and CCS.

Hi,

I had got through to the final interview, and I have sent them all the photos that they asked, however they have asked to send them again, because they are not 'conservative' enough. (i put some wax on my hair, and they think my hair looks abit too spiky.)

Does anyone have any problem with their photos before? Did u get the job at the end? I am confused...called me twice because the photos (both formal and casual) were rejected one way or another.

Many thanks.

Hi There,

Can anyone confirm for me how much you earn per month with Emirates?

Thanks :)

helfsich
30th May 2007, 11:24
MANDOZA- Yes, these are the only guarrenteed flights with crew rest. Some aircraft have been seen with bunks going to BKK and FRA, but this is once in a while, if only because the B777-300 ER is needed for that route.

DXB-JNB is only 8hr and 10min, so is too short to warrant the crew rest bunks on a regular basis. Maybe in the future it will, as we are getting more B777 ULR's, but I think these will be for the upcoming American routes if anything.

I also haven't done JNB in over a year, and as such do not know what rest periods there are on board. Probably 2 soft blocked seats in economy. From what I remember though, on the JNB flight we were working so hard there was no time for rest.

Good news is that from next month there's a 3rd daily flight there, and as a result there are 48 and 72 hr layovers floating around. Not sure when this will become a daily service though.

:D I MADE IT! (through the first two stages though) I have been called for the final interview which is scheduled for tomorrow morning.

There were almost 50 aplicants (after an initial screenign done in march from 120 applicants). After the first round it went down to 14. After the english test, only 7 were still on the run to become EK CC! We have completed both, the written and computer based phycological tests.
Lots of forms to fill out, immigration entry forms, application forms, etc. Also, lots of info to read and go through and we recieved the famous DVD along with the "golden package" (or final interview package which has a golden cover letter).

Some photos had to be retaken as my teeth were not showing and the full size piture had to be facing the camera and standing straight forward (no funny angles).

Truly, for those of you planning on attending opendays, just be yourselves and read every single post there is on this forum. It REALY helps!:) They are only looking out for normal people.

Just in regards to your query re: how much cash you can make while working for EK...it really does depend on the amount of flying hours you do, weather you have a huge phone bill for the month, weather you have purchased anything from the staff shop etc...however with saying that I have never got under $5000Dirhams (currency here in the UAE) and that is worked out on the absolute minimum flying hours of about 20-30 hours, this is more then adequate to live on and this is not including your layover allowances you receive only word of advice depending on where you are from, dont convert that amount back to your own local currency because from where I am from it amounts to nothing can be a little depressing, but as I said its more then enough to live on here in Dubai;);););)

Hey all,

I recently attended the recruitment open day in Sydney (Saturday 2 June) and I just wanted to post my observations. I have actually worked in human resources and personnel recruitment for some 12 years, and I actually attended the Sydney open day, not because I want a job with Emirates, but because I know a couple of people who went along in Melbourne, and because I was interested to learn how a company like Emirates would conduct an open day. Before going I also read a lot of the posts on this forum...

Now, let me say this at the outset. I do not believe that this is an effective or fair means (for either the company or the individuals) to conduct a meaningful recruitment process.

At Sydney, some 300 men and women, approximately 50/50 turned up. The group was so large it was split into two. The second group being asked to wait until the first group was finished. There was a description of life in Dubai, a little bit about the recruitment process and an attempt to show a video on the airline (but the equipment did not work). Then people went in order of seating to either one of the two recruiters to hand over their CV. Before this all people under 21 or without documentation were asked to leave. The whole thing for each group took about 2 -2 1/2 hours.

Firstly, the internet site said that places were limited so book a place. However, on the day it seems it was not necessary to have booked. The recruiters (a New Zealand woman and South African woman) even stated their surprise at the number that had turned up ! In fact, there seemed to be no point in registering for the open day and submitting the CV online. Given this, they should not have been surprised at the numbers - and what the purpose is of submitting a CV online and registering is anyone's guess - it seemed to have no bearing on the outcome.

In fact, even though each candidate handed in their CV personally, there was no way that the two recruiters were going to be able to assess properly each individual according to Emirate's criteria and their CVs, given that each recruiter could only have obtained the most superficial impression of each candidate in the twenty seconds each had to present their CV, and given the fact that there were over 300 people present (even if they had finished the general proceedings at 2pm and intended to call everyone by 6 pm - this would not give enough time to peruse each CV in any meaningful way). I should say that if anyone says there is any meaningful ojective criteria by which to assess people in these circumstances, then they are wrong. If the criteria were simply that a person appears neat, well dressed, smiles, is mature, seems to be a team player, and seems to have a nice personality, then on superficial viewing as was only possible on the open day, this would have meant nearly everyone there! There was just no opportunity for either recruiter to assess those present fairly and equally in any meaningful way.

In fact, I was watching the procedure (when people went to present their CV) very closely. I noted that there were a few really outstanding applicants who seemed to fit in with the general criteria outlined by the recruiters (although they were not very specific in describing the criteria). For example (and there are some other examples I could cite), one guy in particular looked good, presented himself very well (appeared with an open friendly manner - no arrogance), spoke excellent English and (I later discovered) spoke Arabic fluently (they said they were desperate for Arabic speakers - and in my discussions, he was about the only one there who could). He also appeared friendly to other people present. In fact, I fly Emirates business class frequently, and he seemed to fit perfectly the image of cabin crew I have dealt with. However, when he went to the recruiter (the SA woman) to hand over his CV, I noted that she did not even look at him, and when she did so, she only gave him a forced, highly artifical smile. This she did time after time - and it was evident to me that she did not give most people a chance. It was plain to me that this recruiter was making her choice based on nothing more than how the individual approached the table and whether she liked 'something' about them - and believe me, she was deciding her pool of applicants then and there! (I met this guy after the session and got his phone number (among some others there) to find out whether they were successful in this first round - and suprisingly he was not!). This happened with many of those I thought would have been sure to be included in the next day's session.

What all this means is this - the first round (whether a person gets through to the second day when the group session/ interviews/ tests are conducted i.e., the real recruitment process) is entirely subjective to the recruiter - whether there is something about you that the recruiter just happens to like - this determines whether you get an invite to come back the next day. It seems that the decision is actually made when you approach the recruiter to hand over your CV. It makes no difference whether you smile or not, whether you chatted nicely to the recruiter or not, whether you ask questions of the recruiters or answer questions... if she does not like you, then forget it for another six months...

I know this because of my own experience in recruitment - as I said, given they way the day was conducted it was not possible to undertake any meaningul assessment of all those present other than on subjective criteria. So what I would say to you all is this - dress nicely, smile naturally, be yourself... if you dont get through on the first day, dont despair, it probably does not mean that you were not an excellent candidate or that you are someone that Emirates would not have wanted had they actually got to do a proper assessment of you and your skills.

One more thing, I note that many people stated how friendly the recruiters were at various open days. This was NOT the case at Sydney. While the New Zealand recruiter did appear to be genuinely amicable, the South African looked distinctly unhappy, as though she did not want to be there - when she smiled it was the most forced (and unfriendly) attempt that I have seen. I actually felt sorry for anyone who had to approach her with their CV !

As I said, I dont think that the open day was an example of an efficient or fair process. Emirates would be better to stop wasting everybodies time (including their own) and to undertake a more meaningful process that would probably give them better results - for instance, taking 50 or 60 candidates who registered on the internet and restricting the actual recruitment procedures (such as group activities etc) to them. At least there would be a chance to assess a person based on their CV with some actual criteria; and in my experience they would get just as many good applicants this way then they would from an entirely subjective decision randomly made by a recruiter in a process that, frankly, treated most of the applicants like cattle and just wasted their time. All the more the pity since I could see the real effort that most of the candidates had gone to in presenting themselves well. The fact that the present system is not giving Emirates good candidates is proved by the fact that the recruiter said that most Australians did not stay in the job more than a few months ! and I can assure them this is not because Australians are not hard workers, do not behave professionally or becuase they find life in Dubai too hard... it is simply that the process does not actually identify sincere mature candidates who are trully interested in the job.

Sorry for the length of this... I hope it is somewhat helpful to you all...

Regards

C.

I second all of the above comments. I have no idea how candidates can be assessed in an instant. I have been through the to the final round of interviews with EK twice, both times with two british girls as recruiters. In both instances the recruiters seemed quite bored and I felt like I was wasting my time. In my first final interview one of the recruiters did not even look at me when she asked the questions, which I found very off putting.

Dear Cicco,

Don't apologize for the lengthy post. I feel that you have made your point across and I agree with you totally and also the rest who shares similar views as you.

Some people really have what it takes to be a flight attendant but for some who are genuine and right for the job sometimes get turned down. They need to revise how their interview process is. As a seasoned applicant, I have seen some who really deserves to get in failed and those who went just to try their luck or for the money with no passion of helping or serving got in.

For those who tried and those who want this, believe that you will get it. Seize every chance you get and don't get the didn't-make-it-to-the-mark get to you.

I have a friend she has tried many times for several airlines and she just recently got in after so many times and years of trying. I am so happy for her and she has inspired me to keep trying and don't give up. She told me to believe that dreams do come true despite it may seem like the odds are against you.

If interviews like these are based on luck and how much your interviewer(s) likes you, increase your probability by constantly trying for it. You will get it.

Hey, I just wanted to share my experience with you regarding OD in Zagreb, Croatia. There were around 50 of us and I was surprised how many guys were there. Because there was not so many people they immediately made it to assesm.day. First of all I would like to agree with the long post before. My two ladies (from Ireland and England) were artificial, when you would aproach them to hand the CV they were so cold. The only contact with them was when we came to one of them, tried to reach 212cm, and they asked 2 questions e.g. What are you currently working, Why did you apply for CC. Then they've put us in groups and we did group discussion (invite 8 people to dinner and explain why). Reading this forum before I did not want to act pushy so I did not reached for paper and pen on the floor, a guy did (and passed). I was polite, my english is as if I was born in U.S.A., I was moderate, wasn't the loudest and wasn't quiet. I have to notice that all guys got in exept 2, maybe they were looking for male CC this time. Another thing, there were girls with loose hair, in jeans, one was even in yellow drees with dots and passed! So my wearing suit and skirt and stocking on 30C was stupid :ugh:
The whole process really doesn't have any meaning because they should first look at the CV and thoroughly (and only the ones send on e-mail) on their way to that country, and then to check medical results (I mean somebody passes final and then realize they have scoliosis (was one post), couldn't pass eye test or whatever), then they should immediately run English test and then at the end group discussions. Also the psychological effect after watching videos and talking about living in Dubai and then receiving the rejection letter is devastating. Especially without feedback. :hmm:
It is dissapointing that you should depend on whether one of the recruit. likes you or not, more over because lot of people come a long way. So at the end all the advices on this Forum did not help me, although it is good to read them.
Hope you all have better luck!:ok:

Hey Kimberly, I am not from New Zealand, but I got an email saying they had recieved my medicals just the day after I had scanned and sent in my medicals and reports. My starting date is the 13th of July, but since yours is earlier, perhaps you might want to email them at ccjoiners with your flying out date and confidential number to check on the status of your documents.

In General...
Hearing abt all the frustrating experiances some seem to hav had wit Emirates, I'm quite surprised. I had also applied to Qatar previously, and my Qatar experiance was a lot like wat Cicco described. I was really annoyed with the entire process AND the airline at the end of the day so I can understand where all that is coming from.

But Emirates was extremely professional when they held their recruitment here in Singapore and I loved the entire process! I thought it was quite great of them to reply back right the next day abt the status of my medicals considering all the millions of other applications they are probably processing at the same time. Personally had an excellent time at the assesment days and final interview too. Then again, I guess it's all a perspective thing, because obviously some ppl dnt even hear from them aft the medicals are sent in... hmmm...

Hello everyone,

Well, I made it to the final interview and I am pretty confident at this point. It was very relaxed and 100% friendly chat. We pretty much talked about my actual job and how I do handle certain situations. Very basic.

All I have to do now is wait for that e-mail from Dubai saying whether or not I am in. The HR people told me that if i am accepted, a copy of the contract will be emailed along with the forms to be completed for my medicals. They will also give me a start date at that point.

Does anyone know about how long until I recieve that email?

Isisnra Quoted: "But Emirates was extremely professional when they held their recruitment here in Singapore and I loved the entire process!"

I totally agree. My personal experience with EK recruitment was great: very professional and 100% friendly. Must have been because they were aussie gals!

Anyhow, good luck guys and dont give up!

Smania,

I had the same feelings when I attended an OD. Why (one inevitably asks herself) do they ask you explicitly in your invitation to wear a skirt suit if, at the end of the day the person who did not even bother to dress up properly (girl in a funny blouse and jeans) gets in? Just make it a casual event (and call it Emirates recruitment video screening) and we'll all tag along in our playground clothes...or some of us will just be able to decide in advance that it is not worth the time/money to attend. :}

As a person strongly against all forms of pollution, I am also shocked that they actually make all the people print out all that stuff, when a lot of us actually apply online and with a computer and application ref. no. they could just check all the data they need (which they, by the way, do not do...).

I have also pondered on the strategic placement of the English test...by the time the group discussion was over I could tell who spoke English and who didn't. I did not need an English test to assess that XYZ (a lovely person otherwise) made six grammatical errors in a single sentence. No offence intended, but my observation is (and I have gathered a great deal of experience by now), that if you speak an excellent English you already start with a handicap. ;)

Nevertheless, I want to fly, and no one will stop me. :)

Good luck to all those waiting, and "kopf hoch" to those who did not meet the Emirates criteria (whatever the criteria might be...)

Samya

I'm planning on leaving BA (Gatwick) for Emirates (obviously IF I get the job). I fancy a big change and thought relocation to the UAE would be a good start. Also I liek the look of the Airline and pax comments about them are always very positive.

Only thing I am looking for in this thread (and as they're are lots of pages I may ahve missed it) but cannot find is an average roster.

Also curious as for how long you are entitled to stay in the provided accomodation is it for the duration of your employment of just to help you get started.

Finally when you start are your routes restricted or do you cover the whole network.

Thanks for any help guys.

Hey Matt,

For what the HR people from EK have told me, you are entitled to stay at the provided accomodation for the lenght of your employment. However, after a certain period of time (I believe is 3 years of continuos employment) you can take the money they alocate for this purpose and find housing on your own. Again, this is optional.

About the starting routes, they told me all new hires are trainned to operate B777 and A330. So wherever they are flying those two types of aircraft is where you will end up flying. There is no restricion as far as long or short haul flights. You will be basically filling in flights until your seniority allows you request specific flights and "buddies".

Again, this is just what they told me as we asked them exactly the same questions during our OD in Santa Cruz.

Hi there,

Just wondering if there are any Aussies about who are working for EK as CC? I'm currently CC for a domestic carrier and am seriously considering having a go at the next open day.

If there is anyone about who is willing to give me some info on pay, allowances, rosters/bids, leave, etc I'd be really grateful.

Feel free to PM me if you like

Hey every1,

I have just submitted my application for emirates as cabin crew. wahoo!!

Just wondered if any1 knows whether the recruiters let u know that they have seen ur application/r considering it/or have been unsuccessful etc.

I am from England and am a little worried as there are no open days advertised for the coming 2 months so will have to wait!

I am in Dubai for another week - is there a way i could contact the recruiters to let them know this, or is it a case of sit tight and wait to hear from them?

Also, I have just finished university studying law with no past experience in this field of work - am i being realistic in that i could get a cabin crew job with emirates?

Any guidance or advice would be appreciated

I've just read your post, and I'm glad to can help you.If you are in Dubai in this moment, you can call or visit Emirates advertastment and find out wheter they have open day in Dubai, 'cause I know that they have it almost every week, so go for it!;)
And if you want to wait for them to come in your England, you don't need online aplication 'cause if you come at openday, that is only what is important.Do not expact for them to call you via online aplication, 'cause there are planty of people and they can't call each of them.
I was one time at openday here in Belgrade, and I didn't pass to the next step, and I've been again before 2 days, and they didn't want to get my cv 'cause I was at openday in February, and it didn't pass 6 months 'til June, so they unfortenally brought me back:ugh:and invite me to come again after 6m, when they come at September.Very bad experience, but I w'ont let it:=I am here now so ask if you need help or informations!

Hi!
I am 20 years old, but I will be 21 in less than three months.
I really wanna work for Emirates as a flight attendant, but you have to be 21 at the time of the application.
I have seen that there will be several recruitment days in June and July, and I really don't wanna miss that chance. So I tried to apply online and I was able to submit my application, although I am not 21 yet. A few days later I received an email with information and details about their recruitment day. So does that mean that I can show up there regardless of the fact that I am not 21 or will they send me home?
I have read a posting in this forum that they ask people under 21 to leave. But why did I get the email then? :hmm:
Does anyone know where I can find out if I am allowed to attend the recruitment day? Or has anybody met attendants under 21 on a recruitment day?
Thanks for your help!

From ny point of wiev, you should wait for that 3 monthes because, there is no way to be in their team if you are younger of 21.:bored:

Unfortunally, it is true, but do not be sad because they are coming every 3 monthes in places where they have planty of candidates.:)

So, wait for them and they will come, earlyer than you expact. They sent you e-mail, because they can not get information about your born day via computer.Be paciont, as stewardesses have to be:), because I went to openday before passing 6 monthes from my last openday, and day back me home, I wrote it in my last message.:ugh:

That was lection for me that I should wait, but I want this job so much that I could not wait, so I understand you at all.

Jessmin,

I believe people from ODs in early May have just been contacted by EK, that is 5 weeks since the interview. I recieved an email from HR because I was missing the casual photos from the OD (May 30th). They told me the ones I sent were OK and that now is just a matter of 2 more weeks for them to process before I hear back from them. From the OD I attended, only 7 of us made it to the final interview. I stayed in touch with one of them and he hasnt been contacted neither. So, be patiente ;)

Tytus82,

Here is the information they gave us during the OD regarding salary (you do the math):

Pay Scale Grade II: Basic Mothly Salary USD1,000
Flying Pay: USD14,15 (per hour) paid between chocks off and chocks on
Flying Hours: 70-80 per month
Layover Expenses: meal allowances are paid in the currency of the country of night stop. Transp and accom provided by EK.

Hope this info answers your question.

:ouch: Geeshh Tytus92! (no need to be rude) I was just trying to help. Sorry I couldnt give you an exact answer.:*

In "practice" you wont be flying always the same routes, therefore your allowance wont be the same every month. Some people spend it all, some people manage to save some money...it depends. As far as the base salary and the hourly pay, that's set by EK.

Perhaps you should post your question in the EK Employee thread and they might be able to give you a more accurate answer.

14th Jun 2007, 09:10
Tytus, what Flyrules wrote is how it is pretty much and yes it really depends on how much you fly and what kind of flights. If you fly a new york trip whick is like 14 hours flying time you will get 49 Dirhams per hour from the time the plane leaves the gate until the engines are off at jfk. You are not paid for the rest of the time, like reporting for duty almost 3 hours before a flight and getting back a.s.o

So that gives you flying pay for that day about 680 Dirhams. But you could also fly a Tehran turnaround which is only a couple of hours but still spend an entire day away because of transport time, briefing, preparing the plane, ground stop period before the plane takes off again, so you will earn 200 dihrams only.

So one month you can be lucky and only have long flights, the next only turnarounds and no allowence money because you don't stay in hotels.

The money you are paid depends on the standard of living in that country and how high the prices are, like you would be getting a lot more in Nice, France then in Jakarta, indonesia! Getting 100 Euros is a good allowence, and you'll get that often.

Your basic is 3600 dihrams but you are also deducted 300 dihrams each month from your salary the first year, this is insurance to EK in case you leave or do something, steel from apartments a.s.o It is paid back to you if you stay 3 years, then you will also be getting a pretty big bonus. You pay 30 dihrams a month to be a member of the EK clinic, but this is nothing because all the services are then "free" for you! You can always call them!

On a crappy month you can earn 5000 dihrams, on a good you can earn 8000. So somewhere in beteween here is what you should expect:)
But once your grade gets higher and you start working in business you get paid much more and business crew also fly a hell of a lot more as well so you'll earn lots. First class crew don't fly that much again.

Every year you get paid a bonus from the company if they make profit(something EK always have:) and your salary will most likely increase each year.

Hope this helps:):):) Have a nice summer day:):)

Emirates don't pay for your nails and hair to be done, and there is no rule about eyebrows being a particular shade either. Just don't look like crap:)
The only "rule" there is is for your hair to look natural with not any obvious crazy highlights or a massive after growth:) As long as it suits you, that's all theyu care about:) Etc if you are black and have dyed your hair blond, that's not accepted if ya know what I mean:):)

Your nails can be french manicured, clear or with red polish. Lips red or redbrown lipstick.

Hello Tingz,

They actually took my healthcard record along with all the rest of docs (certificates, diplomas, etc) back to Dubai. I've included all vaccionations; even the Yellow-Fever certificate (which is valid for 10 years)! :8

Again, I happened to have everything (originals in spanish, official translations and copies) during the final interview. They really appreciated the fact I was so prepared. If I'm selected, this will make things easier for HR and will speed up the hiring process. All documents in a language other than English, have to be officially translated into English (which in most cases is expensive and can take some extra time).

I am sure you can send the information along with your medicals. I wouldnt stress so much about it, just have everything ready. If they have asked you for them then is a MUST. Keep in mind that evethough it seems like a lot of vaccinations, most of them have to be taken once in your life. Most likely you already have them done when you were born. Check your health card or your family doctor.

Hi mates!

Today I had my final interview with Lucy and Jessica.
90% of the questions, were about customer service, different situations and how did you handle it.

I stayed there only 30 minutes, normally they told us, the day before, that the final interview takes 60 minutes. Did i do someting wrong? :(

Hello,
There is nothing wrong with that!!! Just be patient now and they'll get back to you... By the way, do u speak romanian as well? My name is alice and I'll join Emirates on august 3... can't wait!!!

Just wanted to let everybody from Glasgow know NOT to go to get their photos done on Buchanan Street... I did mines there and were refused.
Then I went to Venart Photography on Bath street and the photos were much better and cheaper!!!

Good luck to everyone!!!

Cheers, Alice

Wish you all the best!

It seems like most people that have carefully read all the posts in here managed to make it to the final interview :D. This is so exciting! Really you guys, EVERYTHING we all have posted in here is much appreciated, great team work!

Has anyone who had their final interview last week of May been contacted by EK yet? Mine was May30th...:\ Should I be worried?

-----------------------------------------------------------------------

For those of you asking about the photos, here is the transcript from the invitation to the final interview (I have a added a few comments):

It is essencial for you to submit 1 full length, 2 casual and 4 passport sized photos. The dimensions are as follows: Full lenght photos - 10cmsx15cms or 4x6", passport photos - 4.5cmsx3.5cms or 1.5x2". Do not affix your photos to the application form. Photos need to be in full color, smiling (*showing your teeth:E), in focus.

Full Length:
Plain background with no props. Preferably a light colored background which complements your business attire. Facing the camera with good posture. Please ensure both legs are visible, taking care not to cross the legs over, both arms and hands visible, preferebly next to sides of the body. (*showing your teeth:E, just like you would greet passengers onboard)

Two casual photos in natural settings (*no alcohol or too much skin showing:=, keep in mind is a musslim country!).

Passport Size:
Should NOT be digital or polaroid. If you are successful you will have to submit 20 more photos in sky blue.

Gals:
Business attire needs to be worn. This includes a fitted shirt-blouse, fitted long sleeved jacket and knee length skirt with skin colored stockings. Appropiate footware would be: court shoes with a heel and no ankle straps. Please do not wear open-toed sandals or ankle chains. Do not wear scarves and ensure that your jewellery is conservative. Hair: if hair is shoulder length, please ensure it is tied back in a neat manner. If in doubt please ask the advice of the recruitment officer.

When did You have Your final interview?

LadyMatilda

If you are serious about a job with Emirates in Dubai it is HIGHLY ADVISABLE that you post a photo of yourself here when enquiring or commenting about your aspirant position with Emirates.

It's no secret that the interview team often browse these and other forums and a familiar face at an interview will definitely improve your chances and can NEVER be a bad thing.

Good Luck - see you on board!
Matilda :)

hey there

I had my assessment day on 5th May and our final interview was the next day 6th May. I heard last Monday that I was successful but i still have not received my email with pre-employment offer etc and am getting quite anxious! I was given the start date of 3rd Aug. I have had most of my medicals done and as i knew what was involved as one of my friends told me. So as soon as i get the email, i will send off all my necessary docs and then wait to hear with confirmation that i can resign from my present employment. The reason i am so anxious bout email is that i have four weeks notice to give in my current employment! Do either of you work as cabin crew at the mo? Where are you both from? I am really excited about going now i just hope that the email comes through tomorrow!

Hallo Flyrules and Lindaflychick!;)

I am from Germany , I had my final interview on the 26 of May.
I sent my paper works last week to Human Resources Recruitment
P.O. Box 686 . Is this the wright adress? Because there is anothe adress Emirates Cabin Crew Recruitment P.O. Box 34211 . Now I worry about it.
I wrote EK an email , but i still didn`t get the cofirmation that they had got my documents.I tried to call EK but nobody answer.
Have You got some information for me that can help me? adress, e-mail adress and telefon number?
Thank You.:)

InLoveWithEmirates,

I sent all my paperwork with the recruitment officer (Rowena) back to Dubai. I know some people had pending photos and paperwork and we were told to send it to:

Emirates Cabin Crew Recruitment
Emirates Group HDQ - Cabin Crew Department
P.O.BOX 34211
Deira Dubai UAE

I believe this is the address specifically assigned for cabin crew. The other one: P.O.BOX 686, corresponds to HR in general. So, I would go ahead with the first one (in bold). They also suggested to fax in all documents to +971 4294 11006 in addition to mailing them to HDQ. Either way, don't forget to give all your details in a fax cover sheet (full name, reference number, date of final interview with city and country). As far as phone numbers, I`ve seen one posted by someone in a previows message.

I hope this helps.

Directly from an EK recruitment officer with whom I am good friends "It would be of great advantage if we could identify those who we interview and see that they actually have a genuine interest in the position or if they are just having a stab at the job because they're bored or have no direction in their life at that moment."

- If you wanna improve your chances, post your picture.

Up to you.

Let me be very clear (apparently I wasn't last time)

This is a forum for Cabin Crew discussions about their work with additional information for those interested in the recruitment process. It is not a recruitment forum for Emirates or any other airline. Airlines have more than enough money to pay commercial rates for their own recruitment web sites. This thread, along with another middle eastern airline thread is almost unique on PPRuNe in that the people posting on it are not actually employed as Cabin Crew - fascinating maybe, but not actually the audience that PPRuNe is intended for. This situation has been tolerated (reluctantly) for some time - if you start posting CV's, job applications or pictures then all Emirates threads will be closed permanently.

LadyMatilda - please advise your friend that their attempt to use PPRuNe as a recruitment agency, without the courtesy of even asking the site managers is both rude and ill-advised.

This thread has now reached a very large size, consisting by and large of endless requests for exactly the same information from people who are sometimes too lazy to search for it. The thread is now closed and a new thread EMIRATES - Wannabees & Recruitment II (http://www.pprune.org/forums/showthread.php?t=280458) is open for continued discussions.
