What is going on in Lauda Air? is it true that they will close down?

I sure hope not! :( True, the financial situation could be better (politely put), but it looks like flightcrews are about to get a pay increase (long overdue) and new, more human flight time limitations. :)

Other than that, a lot will depend on the new management of the Austrian Airlines Group.

Future will tell....

Their next 777, which is not even built yet (due 2002), is already available for sale/lease.

'Kinda proves things are not that good.

Lauda Air is, I recall, now a wholly own part of Austrian Airlines. I understand that Austriam plan to operate all NG flights as pure OS flights, without the current codeshare, with effect from the start of the winter timetable.

Regretably this does seem to mean the end of NG.

The reason the 777 is for sale (as well as the 2 presently being operated) is that OS's stated objective is operating an all-Airbus fleet.

Sean99,

The reason the next 777 is for sale is merely because Lauda Air canīt afford the tremendous leasing rates. For the other two: those are old 737 that are for sale.
The mother carrier Austrian Airlines is sending one (maybe two) A340 to the desert of Arizona....

Here is one for all you happy AIRBUS campers!

As AUA was to take over the ops to Australia they found out that the A340 couldn’t match the 777 schedule because it's to slow.

Oops didn't think of that...but the aircraft looked so fine in the brochure.

Hi guys,

the B777 flys about M.84-86 and the A340 as far as I know M.82-84, so it is slower, so what?

The reason why Lauda will sell the B777 is very simple, old Niki the rat ordered this B777 and two B737 about 2 years ago, before he left the company. Now they just dont know what to do with them, because they dont need them.
There are no plans about an Airbus fleet in NG. They do not have any money to do this.
