View Full Version : Miserable Bahrain Budgie

Some not very inspiring stories are beginning to float around about the Bahrain Budgie.. .The VPO has or is about to leave due to lack of effectiveness (or is it sheer frustration at not being allowed to achieve the objects of his brief?). .The PCE - whatever that is - has or is about to move on (apparently there is a cloud hanging over the claimed hours in his log book and this could affect his position as a captain.). .Morale amongst the pilots is so low that everybody who even halfway can, is trying their best to move on and there is a steady exodus.. .The inspector appointed to the company by the regulatory authority is not qualified on any of the company's aircraft and has no recent commercial line experience. He is apparently trying to turn back the clock and have Prof Checks conducted letting the candidates show off their skills at hand flying the Airbus and Boeing. No automatics no flight directors no nothing.

Without wishing to be confrontational, perhaps he wants to see that they can actually handle an aircraft and not just push buttons????

Sorry to be ignorant, but could somebody please enlighten me as to what the " Bahrain Budgie " is. Thanx..

Rogan - it is Gulf Air. How that name came about is the Falcon emblem on Gulf Air aircraft tails - sometimes refered to as a budgie.. .As for the inspector wanting to see some hand flying - as Anti Skid says - what is wrong with that??? Basic flying skills may have changed a few things of the past.

Well!!!! this is the RUMOURS and news thread after all.

I don't know where these one's came from but their every bit as good as the recent one about GF bringing back Tristars

One thing is for sure, there are always lots of rumours and theories kicking around about the "Golden Budgie" (to give it it's proper name). .IMHO I would not take these seriously.

Wake up and smell the roses - they won't be around for very much longer!!! German A55 or not.

OmanOne, might it be because the "white boys" naively tried to put a stop to rampant incompetence, laziness and nepotism?

Attitudes like yours are exactly why GF is in so much trouble.

I think the "Budgie" bit comes from the occasion when one of Sheikh Isa's entourage boarded an aircraft with a live, hooded falcon on his arm. As she came round with the coffee, one of the stewardesses quipped "Does your budgie talk, then?" This was back in the F27/One Eleven era, so when Gulf Air adopted the Golden Falcon emblem, it was instantly dubbed "The Golden Budgie" by the crews.

Although since 1990s it's been called 'The Brass Budgie' - lost the golden shine a bit.

Bahrainlad,

Well, atleast you still get to fly into LHR. That must make up for some of the crap you have. .to put up with, right? It could be worse, GF could be locked out of LHR and you could only fly into LGW. That would be sad.

Thanks. Donkey Duke

Ahh, but Donkey Duke, British Airways have traffic rights between Gulf Air member states - and they directly compete (for example on BAH-DOH and AUH-MCT).

You give a little and you get a little I suppose.

Maybe a certain North American government could take note!? :) :) :)

With EK in such a strong position, has GF got a real chance of long term survival, given all the management problems, shareholding by 4 separate states etc etc.

It used to be a great company.

Perhaps sirwa69, that is why the accident report for GF072 is not yet released? It has been rumoured many times that its release was imminent so there must be something serious to continue to delay publication nearly 18 months after the accident. Anyone know what's causing the hold up?

Hey, any news of PCE? the latest rumours is that,AL HAMER is on his way OUT and god nows what he did WRONG and who is coming to replace him, may be that is the reason GF is having new managment team? On the other hand the company stoping flying to Australia,Athens,Zanzibar and Milan.. .i wonder if GF knows that Olyimpic Airways stoping to operate to Australia as soon as next month.

Longtime

Gulf Air announced last week that they would soon be stopping the services to Athens, Milan and Sydney/Melbourne. I didn't notice the one about Zanzibar though. I would post the link to the article in the Gulf Daily News but their website is down at the moment . .Lot of very miserable Australian budgies here at the moment

RG. .A very highly placed source said two weeks ago that the GF report would be out 1 week ago. (It hasn't appeared yet). .He also said it would be edited . .The reasons given as to why it has taken so long is that the insurance companies are trying to get the families to settle first. The insurance companies think they are going to get creamed in open court once the full report is published. The families also know this so there seems to be a stand off. . .Perhaps the only way they will resolve this will be to publish a report which does not blame the Captain, although it will be hard for them to come up with a believable alternative. If they make any attempt to put the blame on the aircraft then Airbus will go for the jugular

With so many people aware of the issues at play in GF at the time of the accident, it rather seems like wishful thinking to believe an edited report will be accepted either by the families or the insurance companies. Especially with all the promises made just after the accident to ensure a complete and honest divulgence of facts. But then who knows? Anything can happen at the pink palace.
