Didn't have slides in the Sims but, isn't the slide fitted inside the door? Doesn't the door have to open before the slide deployed? Or would it have deployed inside the a/c? (pretty darned scarey for the FA who was nearby:eek: )

A similar incident occured last October on a FlyNordic MD-83. At FL300 an emergency slide deployed inside the cabin, injuring two flight attentants in the process.

During the 2000 Southwest runway overshoot at Burbank, one of the slides inflated inside the plane.

On 757s, there have been a few cases of off-wing slides separating in-flight.
