I refer only to operational length and ground handing capabilities during the period of operations alluded to. (Not in that way (!) – that was furthest from my mind, honestly!)

Where took off a chopper so large,
The Spitfires started early,
Their pilots got gurny,
Before we could land, time had to pass,
But me got to see a Spitfire fly past:ok:

The Belfast Atco's from watches A, B and E
Recently handled not one airshow but three.
The Harriers, Tornados and Hawks were getting tighter and quicker
To keep them apart the Atco's worked like a one legged @rse kicker!:hmm:


Just in case readers are wondering what we are on, last Friday, Saturday and Sunday, Belfast atc were heavily involved in airshows at Belfast International Airport, Newtownards airshow and Enniskillen airshow.
Our task was to try and integrate fast jets with high energy manoeuvres alongside scheduled and charter traffic, not delay the revenue traffic but at the same time let the fast jets entertain the crowds at RAF Aldergrove families day.
Whilst doing this we needed to handle departures and recoveries to/from Newtownards.

The weather was excellent for once and I believe an exceptional job was done, albeit a little sweaty at times.:uhoh:

My sad moment came on Friday when back seat rides were on offer in a Spitfire.
Not even a Nats Atco could rustle up the £1500 required for the seat.:{

Two shares left in the Catalina I heard, only £17500 each, I'll happily chip in a fiver towards that:E

Ards was excellent, much enjoyed and the weather certainly made the difference. Only 4months until the next one!
