From Tuesday 03 May, NATS' IT provider, ITNET, will become a division of Serco UK Ltd, known as Serco Solutions. Since the announcement of Serco's intention to take over ITNET, NATS has been considering the implications for its Business IT support contract and the potential for conflicts of interest with NATS business.

Following discussions with Serco and ITNET, NATS has secured an agreement that will ensure the confidentiality of sensitive information, and protect us against conflicts of interest, while maintaining the business IT service support. They will have the ability to claim for damages, including potential loss of profit, and ultimately terminate the contract if necessary.

Serco have assured NATS that there are no plans to break up the existing ITNET role of IT support, which is seen as complementary to Serco's other divisions and in addition a plan has been put in place to ensure service levels are maintained - and improved, where practicable.

Serco claims to be committed to delivering service excellence to its customers, including NATS and is looking forward to a long and mutually rewarding relationship with NATS, a key client in its customer portfolio :uhoh:.......discuss:}

This is based on the assumption that, in any large organisation, the left hand knows what the right hand is doing...

Nats should do what they can to get rid of ITNET.

The roll out of the amazing NSD2 project (in my personal opinion) was horrendous.

I think Foghorn has summed it up nicely, Serco is a massive organisation, and its highly unlikely that the IT bods will have the remotest idea of who or what Serco Aviation are all about.
Even if there could possibly be some collusion between the two, it would be so obvious that the Aviation division wouldn't survive to see another day.

Whatever the conspiricy theories, I doubt that the passing of commercially sensitive data between the two would ever happen, as that now carries very serious legal implications, along with long prison sentances.

The worst thing NATS ever did with its IT was to contract out.

They thought it would be cheaper, and more cost effective.

SEMA was an out-and-out expensive disaster, and ITNET hasn't been much better. One of the obvious failures with both organisations, was neglecting to realise that not everyone would be satisfied with the standard desktop and associated raft of outdated programmes available.

The motto in each case was "Give everyone Microsoft Office and they'll all be happy - oh, and it'll be cheaper as well".

What rubbish - different users required different combinations of software available to them - horses for courses. The catalogue of available software came out of the Ark and was at rip-off prices, too. The backup has been abysmal, too.

Come on guys, there are dozens of perfectly legit ways of scoring over your competitors and it won't be long before someone in SERCo Aviation realises the potential...

As for securing agreements, NATS should wiseup and recognise that this isn't a "Ministry of Aviation culture" staffed by public-school educated jolly decent chaps, but the cut-throat world of big business, in which securing contracts and increasing profits and thus share value, is all that counts.

Outsourcing services is often disastrous mainly because of the extra layer of management and communication it requires. Therefore at least reservations about sensitive information being available to a competitor might be unfounded simply due to the new structure actually hampering such a process unless anyone further up makes a concerted effort to obtain such information by devious means.

Most likely this is all cost-driven anyway, any details of potential scaling back of services or job losses?
