I'm looking for information about ATC retirement (http://atcea.com/countries/ret/ret.html) benefits around the world.
I'm a retired U.S. controller. I "got out" at age 50 with 25 years of service. I retired at 50% of my "high three", which left me with pretty close to exactly half what I made as a controller. Mine was a CSR retirement - the other U.S. option is called FERS. For the time being, the mandatory retirement age is 56, but that is subject to change as the "PATCO Bubble" comes to retire over the next few years.
I had a colleague from Russia in the mid-90s. He said their retirement benefit book was as large as a Moscow telephone book, but on page 666 it said, "benefits will be paid only if funds are available." He worked into his 70s.
A friend from St. Maarten is coming eligable to retire soon - he's still in his 40s - but he can't collect until he's 60 or so, so he'll probably keep working.
Please advise about ATC retirement in your country. I'm particularly interested in plans in emerging nations. Any links would be appreciated. Thanks. :D
