FAA Orders Two Planes to Land

WASHINGTON (AP) - The Federal Aviation Administration ordered two corporate jets to land Friday after hearing the word "anthrax'' used over a cockpit radio frequency, officials said.

One plane landed in Austin, Texas, and the other in Tulsa, Okla., the FAA said, declining further comment.

"We think someone was sitting on a mike, and they happened to mention the 'A' word,'' said FBI Special Agent Rene Salinas in San Antonio.

He said the plane ordered to land in Austin "was checked by the FBI, hazardous materials and everyone else,'' Salinas said. "It was clean and was allowed to continue on its way.''

The other business jet landed in Tulsa, said Gary Johnson, a spokesman for the FBI office there. He said that plane was headed toward Tulsa anyway.

"Evidently, an air traffic controller overheard a conversation that concerned him a little bit,'' Johnson said.
