View Full Version : Handling the Big Jets

Sad to hear of passing of David P. Davies. Learned much from his authoritative book "handling the big jets" when I read it many years ago. Does anyone know if it was ever revised to cover the 747-400? It was reprinted in 1997 but I am not sure if it was also revised. Thanks.

Very sad to hear that.
He was born in 1920.
My copy is a 1990 reprint, and doesn't cover the 744.
Highly unlikely he test flew the 744 at 77.
All I feel like saying is:
THANK YOU, DAVID.

Thanks for the replies. For info there is an interesting piece in the latest BALPA log on the life of David Davies.

Its was only this morning I picked up his book and was reading the preface thinking what a wonderful contribution he has made to aviation.
A true teacher.
PS No 744 in the 2004 reprint, he does mention that he could have written about the "SST" based on his 8 hours of Concorde prototype flight testing experience.
What's the BALPA log, Off the clock?
Thanks for a link, if any.

A quick google search found this site. http://www.balpa.org.uk/
I didn't take the time to poke around at the site, but you can probably find the info you're looking for here.
Hope this helps, if not, sorry.

Hi,
Does that book cover 757 ?
regards,
Tero
no, sorry.
The book deals with big jets in general, with a dedicated chapter at the end to the 742.
But if you consider a 757 a big jet, then the book is not to be missed by you!
Cheers ;)
