BKS Air Transport 2nd November 2014 22:08

I have never travelled through Blackpool airport, and I guess now never will, but if Ernest is making the point that the small airport experience is much preferable to that in many of the larger ones then I wholeheartedly agree. I have been through Southampton, Exeter, Newquay and the late lamented Plymouth. No fuss, no queues, minimal walking and retail, just somewhere quiet to sit with a cup of coffee until called. Just as easy on landing. My record at Southampton from aircraft touchdown to standing on the station platform is 7 minutes. What's not to like?

If passing through Blackpool was anything like this, then I can fully understand why he bemoans having to use Manchester, Liverpool etc.

Well I can honestly say I think the longest it's taken me to get thru security at Man is 10 to 15 mins , by which time shuffled thru , bags may have started to arrive , so unless you have just cabin bags , can't see what the issue is , seeing as we're a nation of queuer's , well were , I'm sure at some point in future they'll be claim adverts for having to wait too long for bags next , on another note , as this is or was about BLK , any word of interest in the place as its gone deadly quiet news wise . BB must be quite pleased how it's all died down so quickly ..?

Wait, is this still the Blackpool thread??

Germstone 6th November 2014 12:07

Local paper states liquidators plan on selling landside assets before Xmas. ......airside assets after Xmas.

Where has my last post in this thread gone mods?

Look on the Manchester and/or Liverpool threads and they are probably there.

Read Shed-on-a-Pole explain this on the Liverpool thread. click here to read.

Thanks Ernest

Word on the grapevine they are calling a number of former employees to offer them work again!

Helen49 7th November 2014 17:46

Strongly rumoured that operations [of some kind] will re-commence on 1st December 2014.

wigglyamp 7th November 2014 18:25

What's happening to the maintenance companies that are based at Blackpool?

EGNH Flyer 13th November 2014 10:41

Maintenance at EGNH

It is possible to book landing slots at EGNH. These can be used to visit a maintenance organisation if required. Aircraft that have moved off the airfield due to the current circumstances are still returning for that purpose.

Germstone 13th November 2014 17:29

Ant and westair are still business as usuall

Sandgrown 14th November 2014 04:31

Great to see! The Phoenix will Rise...

Incidentally, since the Thread was re-formed after the big EGHN fiasco, the total number of posts showing has been re-set to zero for some of us, including those for myself.

Seems like, just like EGNH, we're starting again from Scratch..

Long live the Airport!

My post count was over 1000 - I lost all the posts from the Blackpool 2 thread and kept those from other threads.

I remember your earlier views on BLK - Do you reckon a major airline will ever fly out of Blackpool again?

Helen49 15th November 2014 06:31

Do you reckon a major airline will ever fly out of Blackpool again?

I guess it depends on who owns it and what their ambitions are! Therein lies the big problem. It appears that the same MD who ran it into the ground will remain the MD of the new operation. As he excelled only at 'cutting things' [facilities, staff etc] and knew nothing about business development, any significant airline operations would appear doubtful.

As has been stated many times on PPrune, there are just too many Airports in England, so Blackpool remaining as a G/A operation appears probable......in my view!

Well today's Gazette are reporting that it now has debts of £34 mil, so who will want to take that on? Did the airport have so much debt when BB bought the airport , when most of the debt it is saying is due to other BB companies and can be 'written' off leaving the councils , utilities, and the tax man out of pocket, or at the bottom of that will be the tax payer as they are having to pick up part of the redundancy payoffs , so I think it's only right that people question what it is that has been going on.

Helen49,

Why would any new investor want to keep a person or persons running something that didn't create new business? I would have thought they would want to bring their own people in ?

samj 15th November 2014 12:48

I think Jet2 is about as good as it got for BPL in recent times, can't see improvements anytime soon. Does anyone remember when ZB attempted to start a service in 2005 from Blackpool to Malaga? Don't think it lasted very long. Thomson/Britannia also used to run a weekly charter during the Winter from Blackpool to Tenerife, does anyone have more info on both of these?

newaviator 15th November 2014 13:43

Hopefully some sort of airfield will survive ,get ready to wind the clock back 25-30 years .............. GA only , biz jets and helicopters only ............how it used to be , when it seemed to be thriving ( existing) with the odd sporadic small commercial movement from time to time.

With ample chunks of the select remaining land possibly flogged off for development , business and retail related - not houses please ! , but with enough real estate in place for a profitable GA facility to be worthwhile asset.

With the promised local economic boom in the event of fracking , an airport of some sort would be a benefit to the area............

SWBKCB 15th November 2014 14:04

Weren't there a number exemptions which the 'old' airport had which any 'new' airport would have to address to re-gain a licence?
