BPL Announcement

It will probably be that the bank has allowed them to take credit cards for payment, as presently they only accept CASH!

take-off 13th February 2015 19:30

Is there anything happening in blackpool, what's was the big announcement , that was being mention , passed the old Pontins site yesterday , see the foundations for couple of the show homes are in , traffic was too busy to notice how they were positioned in respect of the runway , but can imagine now this housing development has started , it must put to bed now any larger jet service from airport now, as surely they wouldn't get permission for such flights ... Mind pretty sure unlikely to see anything other than the IOM service . Will they be using the main terminal? What happened to the people thT run the airport cafe , as wasn't it let to a local business ?

Sandgrown 14th February 2015 12:37

Well Take-Off, this is what it was about (a couple of weeks ago now)

I think this makes a clear statement about Mr Rankin...

PR explained it was unlikely BLK would resume international passenger flights and that they had lost money every time a jet landed. Attempts to negotiate with the main airlines failed. None were prepared to pay £10 per passenger, with Ryanair refusing even to pay £1 per passenger. Since reopening without the burden of commercial flights, the airport runs at a small profit, securing 34 jobs.
I have seen this a couple of weeks ago. It shows BB were right to get rid of FR and LS did use the airport just as a honeypot until the bees ran out.

ADF v CAR PARK revenue. I think PR had a point, but I have seen the car park full most times ?

I can't see BLK doing the Costas again unless there is new management.

TSR2 15th February 2015 08:47

It would appear that no-one asked the question of how long the current agreement with Jet2 had still to run.

Could it not have been the case of bearing with it until a new contract could be negotiated. Obviously there would be no guarantee that a new contract would be acceptable to Jet2, but was the avenue explored?

SWBKCB 15th February 2015 09:43

Interesting interview, good effort to get the meeting and the companies viewpoint out there - does beg the question as to who signed the contracts which meant the airport lost money every time an airliner landed, and also where most of the other sources of revenue were tied up long term?

Much is made of Mr Rankin's attitude but he has a point - where are the small, regional airports coining it in? and Carlisle, Etihad Regional and a freight hub - really? Also, any success BOH is having is because it is a small airport in the middle of an aviation related industrial estate.

EI-BUD 15th February 2015 10:04

In the fullness of time a nice niche point on the map for Citywing ...

Precisely. Why do you think MAG held onto it

BBC Lancashire reports flights to Isle of Man now on sale

BBC News - Blackpool Airport: Tickets on sale for passenger flights

airviewer 20th February 2015 17:33

Blackpool airport website now up and running, all landing fee info etc. blackpoolairport.com

lfc84 20th February 2015 19:23

on the website it states..."Fees and Charges Effective from 1 May 2014"

horatio_b 20th February 2015 19:34

The scale of fees and charges now quotes a price for RFF4 fire cover.
This has not previously been mentioned, only that normal operation would be RFF2 with RFF3 on request.
If RFF4 was available this would allow the ATR42 to resume on the Dublin route.
The biggest challenge appears to be arranging suitable handling facilities to allow passenger flights to resume.

airviewer 21st February 2015 13:36

Fees apply for this year as i understand it

take-off 22nd February 2015 01:03

Well it's a start and best of luck to airport , maybe over the next few years a more sustainable growth can be made :ok:

james brown 22nd February 2015 18:46

Just read the link to the interview.

So the big boys did it and ran away :ugh:

He sounds inept at best, with every excuse under the sun for his mismanagement of the airport.

The fact is no one forced them to sign those contracts with Ryanair or Jet2.com. Blackpool was a niche destination, to which a lot of people from the North west travelled to avoid the 'big airport experience.'As the loads demonstrated the demand was there.

Denigrating other airports just shows the straws being clutched at to try and save face personally.

That runway will be shortened, don't let anyone pretend otherwise. And in time it will fall beyond repair. Once the clearway is infringed then game over for attracting bigger stuff. A few let 410's won't pay the wages. And Bond are in a position of power now. And they aren't a charity.

Sadly it is forever destined to be a GA field due to this persons mismanagement and his employers greed. BB don't buy airports to run them as airports.

With the loads that were going there no one can say the potential wasn't there to be profitable, were it run by competent people. It's gone too far now though. No reputable operator will ever trust them again.

airviewer 22nd February 2015 20:47

The runway is in the green belt and no building is allowed within so many metres, and runway has to be maintained.

Lord Toofouright 22nd February 2015 20:59

New Business maybe?

With planning permission for over 2000 houses being sought, to be built on Kemble Airfield, maybe one of the storage / scrappage boys might be interested in transferring business up to Blackpool. I'm sure it could easily be accommodated and at the same time increase the number of jobs on site.

Is hangarage available, or are they all occupied ?

Just a thought?;)

airviewer 23rd February 2015 11:58

The is some hangarage available one just gone up for sale.

west lakes 23rd February 2015 17:25

Ryanair refusing even to pay £1 per passenger.
Oh what a shock!
At least they did offer £1 per pax for departure only at another UK airport.

But one thing in common with the two, FR were shown the door! They did not leave of their own accord so getting rid of them may have been one of the best things BB did!

but can imagine now this housing development has started , it must put to bed now any larger jet service from airport now, as surely they wouldn't get permission for such flights
Why not, the design of the estate will have been made and planning permission given before Jet 2, er, left. So what will have changed?

TSR2 23rd February 2015 18:38

FR were shown the door! They did not leave of their own accord so getting rid of them may have been one of the best things BB did!
Ryanair pulled out of Blackpool the day after the ADF was imposed. They gave Blackpool Airport advanced warning of their intentions should the airport go ahead with this charge.
