Hi everyoneBeen visiting and reading posts for a long time but decided now to enrole and add my views as a regular air traveller who prefers to fly from Cardiff.
When are we going to see the results from surveys on new routes that could be served? I am fed up at having to fly from that short undulating air strip in the middle of the countryside called Bristol, to visit such places as Nice,Rome and Venice.I recently flew to NCE and couldnt get over the amount of welsh accents on the flight- even one of the cabin crew was welsh! BRS as usual was buzzing first thing in the morning with 15 planes on the tarmac ( CWL could only dream of this!) and yet the airport does not have the feel of space and professionalism you have at CWL. The proposed Cardiff based airline that we hope for but cannot mention is becoming a drawn out saga to say the least. Come on CWL - serve your customers! |
Agree with you, it is about time that CWL had routes, destinations & airlines that rivalled BRS.

That is what it's all about, building a customer base if you are happy with that Eastern Airways offer then stick with it, i forgot the extra in flight services by Eastern Airways.
I don't believe that Flybe have a good enough frequency to become a threat on the NCL route at the moment, if they had an extra rotation along with the flights on weekends i think there maybe a cause of concern for Eastern Airways. Verry odd seeing 3 Flybe's today with identical departure times 2x DH8 and 1 x EM4. The traffic at CWL is increasing and this is mainly helped by the expansion of Flybe at CWL. I'm guessing if Crawford Rix brings in the 4th Baby a/c, Flybe opens a base and the other airline commencing operations then things will look much rosier on the departure screen. One downside to all of this is that In my opinion i don't think the infastructure of CWL can cope with it. We only have 2 x sortation belts, reclaim belts c and d are rubbish, running low on available check-in facility's, limited area for equipment parking, extra security cones would be required, lack of long stay parking facility's and required better public transport access. |

Stands 1, 2, 3, and 7 are out of use starting today due to resurfacing works, this also means that gates 1, 2 and 3 also cannot be used. Special Branch for this period are allowing flights to be boarded throught 3-15 but if they have a flight that they want to see specifically such as the AMS, CDG, BFS, BHD, DUB, ORK then a handling agent must be at the top of with them in order to segregate the flights correctly.
Immigration are also allowing during this period for all domestic flights to be brought in via the immgration hall but flight must be top and tailled and walked down the side of the channel. They must then be walked past reclaim belts A and B and then with the curtain closed afterwards. 10 out of 10 for the airport to start the work in the 2nd week of summer schedule. |
Absolute madness! - They've had 6 months to paint the lines....why on earth have they started now. Rumour has it the contractors will be working for 7-8 weeks.
Anyone managed to sucessfully claim for damages from that speed-mountain on the exit to the staff carpark? I know several cars have been damaged before they cut it down - it's still too high in my opinion and why do you need a speedbump within 3 meters of a 90degree left turn where you have to giveway at a junction?! Good to see the airport so productively wasting money - money better spent on a toilet/shower facility at apron level for the engineers/ramp guys to use when they get covered in hydraulic fluid?? |
I'm not sure so sure it is just re-painting, i seen them drilling today, what are they meant to be doing for 7-8 weeks?

I once complained to the airport about the incline of the ramp joining the two car-parks, suggesting that it was too steep. The gouges out of the concrete give it away... Got a snotty letter back. I once complained about the size of the car-park spaces, which are too small, and have left my car with numerous dents in.... Got a snotty letter back. I once complained about the fact that there is no lighting between the two car-parks and that this leaves our female employees (including my wife) feeling vulnerable when they have to retrieve their cars late at night on their own... Travelled upto Edinburgh yesterday for a meeting and used Flybe over Bmibaby, have to be honest, it was really a good flight, crew on both flights were very professional and loads were about 20 going up and 23 coming back. Not bad loads really as the route has only been operating for a week. I think over the coming months Flybe will take more and more business on this route as the flight times are more suited to spending the day working in Edinburgh. I don't the route can support what is it at the moment, 5 flights a day?
I even broke my own record yesterday and was home in Aberthaw within 10 minutes of stepping off the plane, I measn which other airport in the UK can you be out of the terminal within 2/3 minutes of stepping off the plane. |

What a/c type is it using and what fare did you pay? |
It was an Embraer EMB-145 I think, it was comfortable enough to be honest 2 + 1 seating, did bang my head a few times when trying to get at my seat!!
I paid about £22 each way, but with taxes came to about £100 in total, when I booked last week, there was no difference in prices between Flybe and BMI, but the flight times were clincher, the BMI flight leaves Cardiff earlier and in the evening is later from Edinburgh. I have taken Bmibaby a few times and although the plane is bigger I find the customer service offered is a bit hit and miss. I suppose I am the typical business customer, price is not really an issue, but other things such as ease of check-in, on board service and timings of flights are more important. Yesterday was only my 4th or 5th flight with Flybe and each experience has been the same,excellent service and generally an easy flight. But saying that I will not be changing my airline when I fly to Newcastle as Eastern Airways is still in my opinion head and shoulders above most airlines in the UK, apart from BA of course. We just to get local flights now to Dubai and the South of France now and I will never have to visit the hellhole called Heathrow ever again! :ok::ok::ok: |
Antentadale - I did CWL/EDI and return earlier in week too, but with Baby.No real complaints as the flight was on time and only took an hour,although the plane looked worn and tired.I chose Baby rather than Flybe cos I thought they used a prop which I try to avoid - noisy and smelly things! Baby just went through the motions with in flight service but with such a short flight didnt really care.
Isnt it brill to have all this choice from good old CWL...they just need to add a few more popular city destinations to stop me having to cross the bridge to use that awful place in Lulsgate bottom! NCE would be very welcome- has CWL ever done it? Always loads of Welsh on it at BRS! |
what is nce. agree hope we can have more flights to europe. i did a survey once on a flight to tunisia from brs and i was shocked 60% of the flight was from wales . the same day the flight from cardiff was full. if we had more flights i do believe they would be used but for some reason airlines want give them a try. this survey they run would have been better of they did it outside brs.:ok:

Nice to see that you have enjoyed your experienced on the Flybe flight to EDI. Having now 6 routes from CWL with 4 different based crew and a/c i have to say that your experience on board may vary for each destination. I have found that even though the problems for over a year with the CDG-CWL-BHD flights the crew have been magnificent and can't fault them at all with only a handfull which were bad, now with it being CDG-CWL-GLA. the crew are very unhappy, and constantly wine how their day has been poor etc and do not appreciate the trouble we experience with the transit pax. JER & EDI crews are also very pleasant and have had good experience with them. Just for your knowledge that for at least a year the EDI is planned for the Embraer 145 (Jet), but not sure whether or not it will change to the Embraer 195 (Jet) or move on to the Dash 8 Q400. I am pleasantly suprised that when passengers disembark from the DH8 i don't face the moans of i'm not going on that aircraft again the same as i have heared from pax arriving on the Futura 737-800. |

This must be the 10th time I have used Cardiff in the past 3 months and to be honest it is fast becoming my airport of choice. The whole experience of flying from Cardiff is great from the Check in staff to the ease of getting through security. I just wish they could do something about the departures area, I always feel it is a bit cr@ppy to be honest, there is very little natural light there and just seems to cluttered, but hey, if that is my only complaint then thats a good thing. I don't think I have ever had any issues at all when flying from Cardiff and hopefully we will have some further business routes opening up over the next year. Flowy50 - I have only used Bristol once and to be honest if it is a destination within the UK and I cant get there from Cardiff I normally take the train or drive. If it is an international destination I normally go to Heathrow. |

I think you may find that from some time later this summer the Edinburgh Emb-145 will switch to a Dash 8-400.

i wasn't sure when they were switching from the EM4 to the DH8 but i know the EM4 are only planning to remain in the fleet for 1 more year.
This will then add extra capacity for the EDI and NCL routes, i wonder if this is planned with the announcement of the possible dusseldorf. frankfurt and brussels flights. |
