4 engines 4 longhaul 16th March 2008 20:30

Anyway CWL made their decision and will have to deal with the consequences now
Yeh but is it really such bad a consequence, is WW such a loss off the regional routes, for months even years people on hear and elsewhere have complained about there crappy schedules on domestic routes and not being tuned for business passengers, I agree with you that CWL are probably taking a chance with Flybe but has anything out of it been that bad, you know 6 routes down the line, lower prices for consumers and a sustainable schedule, with according to the article more routes to be anounced in June. However much I like WW i cant help but feel they've had there chips on domestic as long as FlyBe is around or unless they do something drastic.

birdscarer 17th March 2008 06:17

BE will probably go into CWL hard and fast. Expect big expansion quickly.....and then expect a massive cull on the least profitable routes.

mathers_wales_uk 17th March 2008 10:29

I heared expect an announcement in June regarding the possible German routes. I not sure if the will be on a W pattern, with a stop via another base or if it will be Direct with a based a/c.

THE airline which operates the vital North-South link is on track to double passenger targets as its website goes tri-lingual.
Highland Airways hopes translating its website into Welsh and Scottish Gaelic will allow more customers to book flights online using their own language.
Launching the new website the airline’s commercial director Basil O’Fee revealed the service between Anglesey Airport and Cardiff has already carried 11,700 passengers.
That is nearly 5,000 more than the airline hoped to carry in the first year...with flights running at over 80% capacity.
Not bad for its first year. And with recent surveys being done on the route by the Assembly, here's hoping for some expansion. :D

There is plenty of room at CWL for Baby and Flybe. Fly Be don't have the aircraft to challenge baby on the med routes and baby don't have the aircraft to challenge Fly Be domestically. Baby make all their cash at Cardiff on the sunshine routes. Pulling off GLA or maybe BFS wouldn't hurt the bottom line and might help strengthen other routes. Fly Be will do what they always do. Start a load of routes and chop them as and when they don't work. With all the "converted second world war bombers" (a direct quote from a family friend describing their experience of the Dash) they have on order they have to find some routes and I suspect a base will follow if they can make any of the routes pay. At the moment they can experiment with W patterns from other bases. Fly Be, though, will provide CWL with a solid domestic network, if not necessarily a base. Eveyone could be a winner. Every extra airline at CWL helps the airport move forward it's just a shame they always have to try and fly all the same routes !

If the much speculated Baby/a.n.other deal goes through tomorrow expect another aircraft at CWL soon there are plenty of routes and extra rotations baby want to do but can't. If there is no deal CWL will get another aircraft but not until 09 because that's when they can get one. Baby see CWL as at least a 4 a/c base but haven't the resources to realise the plan at present.

Fly Be

Nice to see the new E195 on the apron this afternoon.:)

FlyingBoi 17th March 2008 16:49

What was it doing there then?? Publicity or a rescue misson?

Richard Taylor 17th March 2008 17:30

Well done to Wales on Sat by the way! Deserved Grand Slammers:ok:

Do you think there will ever be a return of an ABZ route at some point?

Did Air Wales struggle to attract pax between the two when they operated it (first via LPL, then via NCL).

mathers_wales_uk 17th March 2008 21:51

the Flybe 195 was at Cardiff due to the cancellation of the BE1431/BE1432. This is due to industial action by Servisair at CDG. I have heared that this may have been caused due to Flybe making staff redundant there. Not sure if this is correct but could be to do with them not wanting to use the Flybe system amongst other things. It is the 3rd time in the last week that the morning flights have been effected by this industrial action

Servisair and flybe

Servisair and flybe dont hav the best of relationships as it is! look at edi! I don't blame cdg staff not wanting shares - its a bloody disgrace of a system, so overcomplicated for no reason!!

I think CWL will be high on the list for BE, after pulling out of BRS after BAConnect, CWL seems a good move. BE and WW battle it out in BHX, and notice WW are down to 2 daily EDI's this summer, from the proposed 5 a day last year. Hopefully WW have built a good customer base to withstand the rivalry

mathers_wales_uk 18th March 2008 00:00

The problem with them not using the system is that it complicates matters when it comes to transits. The need to send a Seats Occupied message to CWL in order for us to know where they are sat, this means that it gets sent after departure and therefore 1hr after check-in has allready oppened and seats have allready taken. Also the correct passenger breakdown is not in the system either. However on the plus side CDG will be using the system within a month or 2.

If servisair are causing so much problem for them in EDI why don't they switch handling agents?

My guess for Flybe routes are Nice, Frankfurt, Brussels, Brest-Brittany, Bordeaux Amsterdam for the days that BmiBaby don't operate. I don't suggest that they start Geneva unless they wish to attempt it during the summer.

Anybody else have any ideas?

frfly 18th March 2008 07:20

Servisair actually terminated the contract with FlyBE last September - they we're too much hassle, draining too many resources and paying the same price for the contract that they did before the extra BAConnect flights.

I can understand why it's useful to use shares, especially with the CDG going on to BHD, just it could be a little easier to use!

I think BE should look at Brussels, French regional routes, MAN, DUB, HAM, DUS, FRA as well as winter favourites for them such as GVA and SZG.

planenut321 18th March 2008 20:53

I know that flybe are already into talks about FRA, BRU (and HAM i think.) for Cardiff.

mathers_wales_uk 19th March 2008 00:26

Update regarding the 195 at CWL. The BE1431 (DH8) on the 17th went tech and therefore was canx especially with strikes at CDG. BE1435 (195)arrived at CWL on time but went tech on arrival due to flap probs on approach. A replacement 195 was sent from MAN to operate the BE1435/1436. BE1436 departed CWL at 11:35 and operated to BFS due to Runway Cerfew at BHD. Tech 195 departed CWL on the 18th at approx 13:30.

The airline is reported to exploring operating flights from Cardiff to Dusseldorf, Frankfurt and Brussels, with an announcement expected in June.
:ok:

Fly Be

Cheers Mathers, wasn't a very good day for Fly Be on the 17th, :ooh:

andy1205 19th March 2008 21:09

check in

can the checking in desks and area manage in the summer with new airlines and new routes not alot of space to move around when checking in

boyyo 19th March 2008 21:18

Check in

In the morning it shows as roughly 8 flights going out between o600 and o800, 1 x A321, 2X 757, 3 X 737, 1 X J311, 1 X F100, this is the quietest day though. On a Thursday i do believe a few more dep are expected, time will tell if they can cope, i do believe the passengers will be crowded, but this seems to be a problem every year.:ugh:

mathers_wales_uk 19th March 2008 21:18

At the moment it will be pretty close and extremely busy especially first thing in the morning, This may have further problems in June if the proposed happens. Also with Flybe possibly making an announcement regarding the Frankfurt, Dusseldorf and Brussels with an announcement expected in June, this may further stretch resources depending on the Departure times.

Another problem is whether or not the belt system can cope, it failed on numerouse occasions last year and may cause delays along with Central search this year.

Flybe are to introduce self check-in desks at CWL which would possibly mean that they will require less check-in desks, but as of yet not usre when these are to arrive. I would have assumed they would be installed, trialled and tested ready for the 30th of April.

Thursday mornings will be a true test with the A330 to SFB thrown in for good measure.

boyyo 19th March 2008 21:27

True true Mathers, the belts system last year were an absolute night mare, engineers were constantly working on them, lets hope they work a lot better this year, it's going to be the same Thursday afternoons with the Zoom 767 checking in, fun times ahead!!!!!:uhoh:

andy1205 19th March 2008 21:30
