bmibaby a new route to barcalona stating in may 3 times a week. also going to add more ac to cardiff. flybe also considering 3 new routes to europe good news for once:D

I can tell you (this is not a rumour) that bmibaby had planned to put a further 2 aircraft into Cardiff. This is now under review because of poor management of Cardiff Airport.
The management at Cardiff Airport have acted in such a manner that it cannot be guaranteed that they may duplicate their errors in the future. The duplication of routes is unsustainable at regional Airports such as Cardiff. Competition on routes is good for everybody however, putting jobs and business's at risk due to lack of insight is reckless. Additional routes are welcomed, duplication on such a scale is negligent. Maybe the Cardiff management would like to respond? |
Airlines decide which routes they want to fly not airports.
Also JH has now left so a degree of bridge building (it that is appropriate) may be possible..... 2 extra units in one go .............naw WW are too cautious! |
I know it's better than nothing but it's still a bit half hearted, twice a week becoming 3x weekly. It is no use to anyone looking for a weekend away as they have to travel midweek. I still think many from this side of the water will travel to BRS to go to BCN with Easyjet as they are doing BCN twice a day during the summer and RYR doing Girona daily as well.

and to be honest a route that WW should have taken on as soon as TOM stopped the route. They obviously had the aircraft available so why.... lack of commitment to CWL?

Well FlyBe is working on progressing from cardiff, how did the Munich route from WW do back in the day?
WW confuses me, they take long enough to anounce routes for CWl, and then pritty much give the impression it's the management at cardiff thats behind the reason for not expanding, nah! they had there down points alright, but it's more likely they werent commited despite it being known or apparently so that cardiff is one of there most yielding bases. So Baby wheres this bloody 4th aircraft huh? |

Could possibly be the largest interms of schedueld passengers, im not quite sure on TOM's figures for there combined Sched/Charter neetwrok, but FlyBe have the resources to certainly expand fairly quickly and a three year time scale upto 2011 could see a number of based aircraft at cardiff.

I know this sounds daft from a Loco carrier but i heard that Lanzarote is being talked about by BmiBaby. I hope this is not correct as i can't see it working.
It has been going around for a while how we nearly had an extra a/c here and there. etc. The truth is that Flybe was expanding at BHX and BmiBaby wanted to fight back, and this is where the 4th a/c went too. Considering there is no extra a/c due except for those to replace the 735 then unless an aquisition is made by the Bmi group then i can't see any significant growth by them soon. As far as i'm concerned i won't believe a word about an extra a/c until it's set in stone. On the other hand an extra route to their network is something positive at least. Looks like interesting times ahead for Cardiff with Flybe looking to expand similary to it's Southampton base and be Cardiff's biggest carrier within 3 years. Maybe next year we can see a based a/c or two. |
I would like to see 1 Dash 8 and 1 EMB 145, a bit of variety. I doubt they would base a 195 for a few years to come.:*

This is my first post but i read the forum quite alot. I read quite a while back about italianwings starting a service from cardiff is this now dead in the water. |
As far as I know. But CWL desperatly need a route to Italy (and Germany) , as a business route. They did have Milan which was dropped. Eurofly and Thomsonfly do summer charters to Rome and Milan, but a regular serrvice is needed.

We know that Airlines choose the routes but it is the airports that offer the deals and in turn control the routes. In the case of Flybe duplicating routes with Eastern and bmi they were offered the same cost cutting deal. Now we have all three Airlines paying exactly the same on exactly the same routes. How stupid? Deals at Airports are available for new routes not the routes that already exist. This has been a management monumental error of judgement and there will only be casualties. Look at any other Airport in the UK. If a route already exists and a new airline wants to operate that particular route, they may but they will pay the going rate and not the discounted one. That is how it works, always has done and always will. The management at Cardiff should be held accountable when the Airlines pull off the routes in the future. ( Which won't be long ). I now know that bmi have decided not to base any more aircraft in Cardiff for the time being as a direct result of this management decision. |

I see that bmibaby has cut back its Belfast International route to daily. It would seem that Flybe has done quite well in growing its share in the market. My fear for the Cardiff is that Flybe will introduce higher frequency that bmibaby on many business routes and this will leave Baby with a very cost ineffective position, ie cost to run a half or quarter full 737 where BE is using Dash, i accept that many prefer a jet, but in my view it wont be long until baby give up on Cardiff ( which i hope I am wrong).
And by this time Flybe do a SOU & EXT style bully job on the airport.. What does anyone think? EI BUD |

Say no to Flybe, including risking potential future expansion onto new routes, and hope baby would expand, risking stagnation but keeping you're main airline happy. Or let Flybe expand and accept that reduction will happen elsewhere but hope the additions outweigh the reductions Anyway CWL made their decision and will have to deal with the consequences now |
