FIDS Question

What happened to the www.cwlfly.com/FIDSCOMPLETE.asp site?
Just getting a blank blue screen now, it was great showing both arr. and dep. on one screen plus it auto-refreshed after 4/5 minutes?
Thanks.

boyyo 25th April 2008 14:09

Could it be anything to do with the radar being taken out of service for time being? Other than that i don't know.

Zoom Airlines

The Cardiff airport website has been updated to reflect Zoom's decision to expand services from Cardiff to Toronto. Excellent news! :)

Scheduling

We have several flights landing between 09.30am-10.30am most mornings, is this due to other air traffic going to LHR ? Are we under their flight path and this causes several flights to land closely in the above time slots?

4 engines 4 longhaul 26th April 2008 10:31

Although im not into ATC, i very much doubt it! Heathrow traffic is way above use with about 140/150 miles left to run most jets have only started the decent into heathrow (not accurate but you get the idea) so likely dont pose any danger to CWL traffic.

flower 26th April 2008 10:56

I suspect most of the flights returning in the times you say WALES-TAG-TOP are simply the returning flights of the early morning schedules. The flight times at Cardiff have nothing to do with flights in or out of Heathrow.

mrgittins 26th April 2008 12:22

Landing times

With reference to the last few posts, why does CWL seem to have 3, 4, even 5 a/c land within minutes when little has landed for maybe the previous hour, other than small flights ie AI/BE's ,and nothing then lands for several hours. This is apparent every day especially around 10:00 and the 22:15 to 22:45 periods and Sunday 01:00. This must be frustrating to baggage/fuel/ICS and outside companies like O/S parking and Checkers (as seen by queues at these times) when the load could be more evenly spread and the staff utilised more efficiently without the need for a mad hour or so rush then hours of tedium.

There must be some reason if not obvious, could anyone shed a little light?

Winter 2008~2009

XL Airways weekly to SSH
TCX weekly to ACE,FUE,LPA & TFS
Rumours about Zoom operating CWL-YYZ all year round !!!!

Good to see some interest this winter ex CWL.............still needs extra flights though but good luck to them all.

24th May looks busy with the Heineken Cup Final, I see Servisair have entered into FIDs two Aer Lingus A330, one Axis Airways 737-400 and two City Jet Avro's all operating so far - looks like it could be Munster & Toulouse playing so expect a lot more...................Servisair always seem to be the busiest on sporting events with large amount of charters where Aviance seem to be limited with Aer Arann, Flybe & BMI

Em0866 26th April 2008 22:04

Well never say never. I know they pulled out a couple of years ago because of charging issues, but there was different management then. I know BRS has a larger catchment area but CWL could do with more flights. Will be interesting to see if this rumour is true or not

boyyo 27th April 2008 06:12

Not heard anything on WHSmiths rumour, but that would be a lot better than world news, also what happened to Greggs and Subway?

With regards to Ryanair, i too heard this rumour, heard this from someone across the pond, but like it says, just a rumour, but hey you never know with this airport, wasn't the Zoom flight meant to be all year round from last October?

Landing times

Surely, if landing times were more spread out, we would avoid as mrgittins said the 3,4,5 all down at once syndrome. Hence, better staff usage, uncongested arrival hall, approach road de-clogged, Port road de-clogged and a general better use of all facilities. Do airlines pick their landing slots or do the airport give them times?

flower 27th April 2008 07:57

Whilst Cardiff may be quiet it doesn't mean the airports the flights are returning from are quiet. There are a number of factors that go into landing and departure times but simply because a small airport cannot handle the arrival of 3 or 4 aircraft at one time says a lot more about ground handling than it does about airlines and arrival times.

planenut321 27th April 2008 08:55

With reference to the FIDS page for Cardiff. Does any other airport have a website like that?

Can anyone shed any light on why Baby aborted take off this morning?

Welsh Bobby 27th April 2008 10:02

Good, positive news for W09 with TCX flights to the Canaries - I take it these are in addition to TOM? If so,extra choice for me when I do my annual winter trip to one of the Canaries.
Also good news with Zoom-hopefully onwards and upwards for them at CWL?
Does anyone know if theres a chance of someone picking up any longhaul charters from CWL for S09 - SFB,CUN,POP? Surely theres got to be TOM's ex SFB at least?
I was looking at another thread showing TOM's distribution of aircraft for S09- not only sad that they have taken away that much talked about 757 that is coming from BRS next week but I see in fact it has gone back to BRS for S09 under the merger! Pathetic!

Fly Be

Does anyone know how the Fly Be routes are doing, and how are the self checking getting on?

caaardiff 27th April 2008 11:21

I agree with flower. 3-5 arrivals is nothing to cause havoc. At the end of the day, airlines pay handlers for a certain amount of staff to handle their aircraft. It might be well known in the handling industry that it is probably the minimum safe amount of staff. But minimum is still seen as sufficient. Its down to the handlers to effectively manage these staff to service the aircraft. If not then the handlers need to sort the contracts out. Unfortunately, the airlines will carry on screwing the handling agents by forcing the handlers to cut charges continually, just so they can keep the contracts.

I'd heard that Alpha shops had been bought out by WH Smiths. But i am not sure whether this is the whole group, or just within CWL and Smiths are to take over the shops.
Serendipity have gone bankrupt.
Not enough business to open Greggs/Subway without p:mad:g off SSP. Also the dormant departure building is just lying there as an empty shell.

Still no announcement from TCX/MON to SFB yet, so wait and see.

That list incorporates the FCA fleet as well. Of which there are 2 757's based this summer anyway, so BRS will stay the same as this year with 2 757's and 1 767(part).

As for FR, who knows. If FR wanted to expand at BRS on the scale that they have at other bases they would need expand BRS, as they would struggle to get anymore a/c in there at the moment, a/c parking and the terminal is going to be tight in coming months. They could then us both BRS and CWL to compliment each other. Personally i'd rather not see FR back at CWL!:=

Em0866 27th April 2008 11:50

Does anyone know what is happening about their business campaign they launched back in February (you would if you could). They don't appear to have updated their website with the results. When does this "consultation" end and what are they going to do with the results

WALES-TAG-TOP 27th April 2008 12:38

Arrival times

Again, with the usual 3,4,5 arrivals at once, around 10am most weekdays, most business pax have 3-4 hours business in Cardiff etc, then have to leave early, i.e. in the middle of their afternoon meeting to return home?
If you're off to AMS, EDI for business, then they can leave at 6am, 06.45am,. BRS seems at winter schedule to average 4 arr. per hour?
Plus the 3 all at once on Sat. AM arr FLYBES, all at 08.20am, baffles me....:ugh:

iflycwl 27th April 2008 17:38

Have also heard these Ryan Air rumours............flights to different FR destinations served from BRS............be good to have destinations like Rome or Venice.

Great news to see Zoom having continued support for CWL, since they started in 2005 they have gradually increased to this years whopping x2 YYZ and x1 YVR routes with the possibility of a year round operation to YYZ. Much better than Globepsan's BRS-DUB-YHM route !

With TCX operating this winter this will be the start of things to come (at long last), TOM will have a year round competitor, lets hope TCX or MON will carry on the CWL-SFB route. We also need some ski routes for this winter to add to CMF,GVA & INN, what about LYS, TRN or SZG ?????

Looks like the 24th May will be a big one - Munster v Toulouse s ono doubt many more flights to join Aer Lingus, Axis and City Jet's flights already accepted.
