I bet Ryanair will be straight in there too secure new deal?
On the other hand, IF Ryanair are the major constituent of the 2m per year loss, and IF the priority of the new owners is to stem the loss, then Ryanair may be in for a shock.

ScotsSLF 26th November 2013 16:56

From tomorrow PIK is no longer "Pure Dead Brilliant" allegedly. This particular marketing slogan will be removed from the terminal

Facelookbovvered 26th November 2013 22:09

The reason that PIK owner accepted a £1 for it is simple, no one else would offer them a £1 for it and going into a independence vote on the back of avoiding further job losses at PIK or closure makes it a good deal for the SNP, this politics not common sense.

they will not attract other airlines whilst FR are the dominant player and FR will clear off if NS does dance to their tune, both sides know that and the SNP have far more to lose than Ryanair in the next 12 months, remember the Ryanair aircraft flying around with vote YES in Irelands referendum ???

Why does Scotland want or need 3 airports within 100 miles of each other? and please spare me the London has 4 airports argument, the within the M25 economy is bigger than the rest of the UK put together

At least i could see the numbers didn't add up in NI, you guys need to go spec savers

Madness

ScotsSLF 26th November 2013 22:43

I thought London had 6 airports?

pikman747 26th November 2013 22:55

It is not too many years since both GLA and EDI in their Master Plans indicated they would require parallel runways due to the projected increase in business! GLA certainly does not look like needing one but EDI are certainly getting pushed for capacity, perhaps to the extent where RYR find it too expensive for a 5 aircraft base. The obvious option is to return some of their northern Europe destinations back to PIK where they started.

Skipness One Echo 26th November 2013 23:15

Do you think the closure of PIK is relvant to the SNP? It's a cross party issue to protect an asset we've already paid to build then sold off, all bought for a minor sum. It wasn't done to make a pro Indy point, Ayrshire is not natural SNP territory, Troon less so! Can you leave your distant and half baked ideas on local politics at Cairnryan please?

Btw GLA an PIK are more complimentary than competitors nowadays. As for Ryanair, GLA would need to pay FR for them to get a better deal than PIK, which with the previous PIK business Model worked well!

FR and PIK have had one of the less adversarial relationships with MOL, no one pretends it's a love affair but given a four bay maintenance facility on site, I think they're here for a wee while yet.

Madness he said.....

ScotsSLF 27th November 2013 09:18

Doesn't Northern Ireland have 3 airports within 100miles of each other?

GustyOrange 27th November 2013 09:56

Very valid points Facelook.

Mr silly name is at it again . Facebovvered / irish / scottish whatever u are. Prestwick will gradualky get new airlines in . With the right business plan and the right team , the right facilities built then the place will make a profit again. The airport only needs a few more routed to be added and the place will make money. Yes it was a political choice that scottish government bought the airport but it was also a common sense purchase as the airport employs 300 people plus thousand indirectly. And the major fact that the airport brings in 60 million a year to scotlands economy. So when u add up the positives and negatives then surely it was no brainer decision. If facebovrilhead thinks scotand would be better off without tpik and the 60 million each year then he is clearly deluded

"Pure Dead Brilliant" was dropped some time ago, most PIK staff uniforms and any signage and stationery just saying "Prestwick" on it.

davidjohnson6 27th November 2013 14:26

The recent comments are somewhat amusing to read. While I can see a long-term strategic rationale for keeping Prestwick open (e.g. cargo, military, and back-up against fog), I'm struggling to figure out which passenger airlines would likely want to fly to Prestwick, apart from Ryanair. The only airline I can think of is Wizzair but they moved to Glasgow Intl less than a year ago.

I'm sure those who are much more familiar with Prestwick will have a good idea as to potential passenger airlines - would someone more knowledgable than me be kind enough to suggest names of these airlines and perhaps even some routes ?

Skipness One Echo 27th November 2013 16:12

Very valid points Facelook.
sayeth the other tribe?

Behave yourself Mr Johnson, the sarcasm is overwhelming. It's a core Ryanair passenger model with any West coast based outbound sun routes that work. Now in the past that was Futura and Air Europa amongst others but Ryanair moved out of city markets into sun routes and Futura and Spanair went bust.

So they still have sun routes but no city breaks, realistically any city route that can support both east and west coast service with FR is a growth opportunity. The real money was never in passenger operations, it was cargo, which remains somewhat slumped sadly.

How quickly can you load cargo onto a 737-8 ?

LNIDA 27th November 2013 22:25

Sorry to ask but who apart from Ryanair fly's into PIK with passengers? love west Scotland from my earlier days, but that was a long time ago....

XSBaggage 27th November 2013 23:32

Skipness was talking about dedicated cargo flights - PIK used to be a big hub for Atlas and Polar, in addition to Cargolux and Air France, who continue to operate today.

NorthSouth 28th November 2013 06:23

who apart from Ryanair fly's into PIK with passengers?
Sadly, no-one

apron alpha 28th November 2013 07:16

North south you know the answer too that question and give me another airline that would carrie that pax number through pik? Anybody any ideas on what number that could grow too if ryanair were inticed too expand

billyg 28th November 2013 07:37

The SG will have a hard time enticing RYR into more routes when the airline already get everything for free !

They don't this is an urban myth. FR stopped their growth when the previous deal ran out and has not been renewed since. This is being worked on.

Expect some major changes to be announced soon, some long overdue, both in Material structures and the way things are run.

ScotsSLF 20th December 2013 13:58

Small addition to the PAX operation. Only three flights initially but it's in addition to FR and the Lourdes charters.
