Does anyone have any information on the proposed new routes for U2? With a new a/c arriving in Sept I'm assuming there will be more than one new route to be launched?

PPRuNeUser0178 18th February 2011 10:22

Again for the benefit of us non spotters who just drive the planes, who is U2?

Err... your employer! (U2 = official 2-letter code for easyJet)

Yesterdays news was that BAA are being forced to sell either Edinburgh or Glasgow Airports. Which one do you think they should try to sell?

Skipness One Echo 18th February 2011 13:02

I would assume Glasgow as it has been doing poorly of late but EDI is the one that's going to need way more capital investment in the future. Knowing BAA they'll probably try and sell Prestwick again....

Airport Sale

Logic would say sell Glasgow. Edinburgh has had (I think) greater investment in recent years and also has unquestionably the greater potential in the short to medium term.

On the other hand, if Ferovia need as much hard cash as they can get their hands on (and I believe that they are fairly skint) then the highest price could reasonably be expected from Edinburgh.

Who knows.

Airport Sale

It will depend on the strategy that Ferrovial and BAA decide to use, I personally see it being Glasgow being sold, but as an interesting side note, could BAA say "OK, we'll sell Glasgow, but we're going to buy Prestwick"?

I know it's unlikely considering BAA's past and current disdain for Prestwick, but just a thought...

goldeneye.....

Lotus are also shown as operating EDI-SSH-EDI, but the flight times suggest it is an EDI based aircraft.
With TOM now operating a B752 from EDI, I think we will see changes shortly when the TOM schedule is updated.

You never know maybe Flybe will operate it, but I would be suprised to see an E95 on the CFU

Skipness One Echo 18th February 2011 16:07

Any strategic growth at EDI needs a whole new Terminal as they are really struggling to get cram a pint into a 1/2 pint glass with the usual BAA ad-hoc sticking plaster investment strategy.

The South East Pier would ideally have been a new 21st century terminal development rather than a low cost pier for the loco market. Having done so would mean that they could now be redeveloping the exisiting terminal site. Instead we have the same building put up for the world of 1977 force fed like foie gras with more shopping and retail opportunities. All lovely except the infrastructure around it isn't fit for purpose and they still struggle to with international arrivals getting in the way of departures.

My hope is they sell EDI. Actually they should sell GLA, ABZ, STN and SOU as well because the only one they've ever been halfway good at, and only very recently, is Heathrow. It's only now people are getting excited about what can be done with LGW again, since the ugly ginger cousin of London airports was cut free.

scotsunflyer

Where are you getting the information on the Sharm flight, as Thomson's own website state it will be a TOM flight, TOM998/999.

Well as a simple line captain all we ever see on the paperwork and put in the FMGC is EZY followed by flightnumber/callsign.

When I position all the flight numbers on the tv screens say EZY, the boarding passes all say EZY. I can only assume that U2 is a code that only those in the know would use, hence confusion on here.

Safe bet though if you said EZY , most folk, including us simpletons that drive the jets then we would know who u mean!

TFS - Fri (was MON)

Astraeus at EDI

I see that Astraeus are looking for cabin crew for EDI for the period
1st April - 31st October 2011

Any ideas who they will be flying on behalf of or what routes ???????

Cheers

Porrohman 23rd February 2011 08:51

Possibly for flights to Greenland in connection with Cairn Energy's oil exploration work? Titan had the contract last year.

atomicflight 23rd February 2011 12:02

Is it not Astreaus that operate the flights for Iceland Express?

Is it maybe to do with that as well.

Seljuk22 23rd February 2011 12:59

EZY announced 3 new routes to ATH, TFS and Grenoble from September. An A320 will be based bringing the total number of based a/c to 5.
easyJet launches Scotland?s only direct route to Athens

MILEHIGHBOY 23rd February 2011 15:06

Aeu @ Edi

this must be to relplace the MON a/c that is goin to DUB for S11 instead of EDI. MON have pulled out of EDI as they want to concentrate on flying for their own group of companies cosmos, avro etc. the flight numbers have recently changed from MON to TOM but with no sign of TuI setting up base maybe AEU are doing it under some contract. could even be AEU a/c and crew but sprayed in TOM colours and TOM uniforms inflight product. similar to TCX and Aurela.

frfly 23rd February 2011 15:43

Great to see EZY expand finally at Edinburgh. Strange to pick a TFS route to compete with Ryanair. With rumours of an 8th based FR aircraft, maybe we'll see Ryanair add a STN or some other EZY route just to show they wont back down without a fight!! Good for consumers in the short term with lower airfares, but maybe would have been better to pick a non competing route.

BBC News - Easyjet creates 60 jobs at Edinburgh Airport

Kevin Brown, managing director at Edinburgh Airport, said: ... "More passengers pass through Edinburgh Airport with Easyjet than any other [airline] and it's pleasing that we're able to develop Edinburgh together in partnership."
Ummm. easyJet move more with four based A319s than BA with 11 LHR, 4 LGW and all the LCY put together? Where do Ryanair lie in the pile?

TOM will be basing a B75W. I reckon AEU will be for the oil charters Titan did last year.

Not sure on the exact numbers in comparison to FR and BA but it adds up to much more than just 4 based aircraft when you take into account all the flights operated by based aircraft from other stations.
