As the BAA are intending to levy a 'passenger' charge from their Heathrow and Gatwick operation to pay for Stansted's second runway, would anyone object to TBI/ACDL etc from also introducing a passenger charge at Skavsta, Cardiff and Belfast to pay for the new Luton runway?
To where will the newly announced based easyJet airframe fly and when will it be delivered? A rare shot of Buster the Bear taken 19 years ago! Is that really me, or an imposter? http://img121.imageshack.us/img121/2...lbuster9pk.jpg |
What Luton needs really badly is a scheduled airline to come in with good longhaul connections such as EI, KLM, SN or CSA. I thought at one time Finnair might have tried it, HEL is a delightful airport to fly from, they use LTN occasionally anyway, and they have some good longhaul connections. I know this would duplicate routes but think how popular it would be for the huge catchment that do not want the 45 min drive to LHR, and the hassle involved.

From the 21/22 Feb, DUB goes down to 3 x daily on Tue/Thur & 2 daily on Sat. Assume the gaps will be filled by a new destination or an increase in freq elsewhere.
|
Styrian Spirit appear to have opened their booking engine for flights ex LTN, beyond March, when they were expected to transfer to LGW. Obviously this may still happen but for the moment at least, flights between LTN/KLU are bookable to the end of Oct 06. Flights operate Tue/Wed/Sat/Sun

CIA
I see that Luton is the CIA’s first choice when they route aircraft via the UK in their war on terror. 84 charters and 33 owned CIA jets according to the Guardian have passed through Luton.

Yes, but let us not forget the landing fees. ;)
The Gruniad? Must be true then! :D |
New Ryanair Route
Just saw a reference on another thread to a Luton - Brest service starting.
Investigation of the Ryanair website confirms this to be true: - flights start on 21st February - operates 5 x a week .. no flights on Friday or Sunday - looks to be using the second Dublin rotation - flights depart Luton at 11.40 and return at 14.25 - same times (and days) during the summer too. |
This new Brest operation from FR could impact badly on Aer Arann's plans to fly to Lorient. Although around 50-60 miles apart, this part of Brittany is sparsely populated and won't generate many France-originating pax.
Still, I hope they both work. Looks like Helvetic\'s 2006 schedule drops to 9 a week - Morning rotations dropped on Tue/Thu, evening dropped on Sat. |
Microsoft Autoroute says 82.5 miles.

Any truth in the rumour that Aer Arran are considering a LTN-JER/GCI operation from April 06, together with basing at least one aircraft at LTN at that time?.

Thinks -
Must pay a visit to Buster's pad. For a dangerous animal (although cuddly), he's got access to some decent software and a PC. It's a while since I drove from Brest to Lorient, but I have flown Brest-Quimper in a Brit-Air Bandit, and it didn't take long. |
I see that Luton is the CIA’s first choice when they route aircraft via the UK in their war on terror. Since the purpose of any of these corporate flights cannot be determined by flight plan details alone, unless The Guardian has someone working as a 'mole' for one of Luton's FBOs and that person has been on board every one of the 117 flights that are alleged to have been involved in 'extraordinary rendition' AND has seen 'passengers' that appear to be restrained, it's totally inconclusive data that means nothing. On a more general point, one might ask why - if such flights are really taking place - the CIA would route such potentially dangerous 'cargo' through any UK civil airport when they have Mildenhall available H24 and as such, a base facility that's 110% more secure and discrete than any UK civil airport, including Luton. :hmm: |
Anyone know if LTN is still fully operational with the huge oil fire 3 to 4 miles to the south. Can't seem to be able to call up flight info for whatever reason. Heard the M1 is shut both northbound/southbound between Jct 6 & 12 so getting to the airport will be extremely difficult.
|
The BBC report the airport is operational but very hard to get to with there being no access from the M1
|
It would appear that the BPK SID's are turning right after departure (rather than left) from 26 and put on radar headings roughly through the overhead to keep clear of the blast 'area' which is due south of the airport.
All departures are climbing straight ahead, rather than following the NPR which would turn the outbounds toward the conflagration initially. Unprecedented, but totally necessary. I wonder just how many noise complaints this will generate, probably very few? The view of Hemel from my Zoo has been brilliant today, unfortunately the sight of plumes thick with acrid smoke spreading over east London and beyond are hideous! The loud bang just after 6 this morning had me diving for cover fearing poachers! |

We kept going all morning with departures on tactical headings, thanks to the help of the good guys at TC. :ok: |
Does anybody know what an EOS 757 was doing at LTN this morning (11/12/2005)? Saw it there when I came to work at 13:00.
