Frankly, I don't see any significance in that.

There are LTN, SEN and LGW departures between 21:35 and 21:55 which is just the sort of period over which I would expect to see UK evening departures being scheduled. Wizz won't be aiming at pax who would just as readily use LGW as SEN so whether they're scheduled 10 minutes or 60 minutes apart wouldn't make any difference. That doesn't mean I'm confident that Wizz will operate from SEN next year, just that it won't be because of similar departure times from LGW..

AirportPlanner1 24th Dec 2021 10:40

Every few weeks the LTN crowd come back like unwanted boomerangs. Maybe Wizz will operate, maybe they won’t. All depends on the pandemic.

I’m sure the LTN posters know this already, but what’s available to book is what’s always been available even pre-Covid. LGW and SEN within short time of each other, and both within a short time of a LTN departure. Same applies to FR to DUB from STN/LGW/LTN. Nothing to see here.

Wizz Air have removed Southend from their booking engine.

Pain in the R's 24th Feb 2022 15:18

While all the other airports are bouncing back Southend is still in the middle of a pandemic.

Now if I had made such a post I would have been shot down!
I was told this months ago reliably and the only reason it was left in booking engine was to generate Essex bookings and to fully expect a Ticket transfer to West Sussex or Beds.

Already mentioned here but now picked up in the local newspaper.

So why mention it again?

LTNman 1st Mar 2022 10:44

Oh dear, because the article gave the airports view about Wizz at SEN. I am sorry you were not interested.

Southend Airport is the airport of last choice for the LCC's. Easyjet using non based aircraft makes it easier for them to quit again or to operate no flights for the winter. Nice airport, wrong location, which is a real shame as it deserves success with all the money spent on it.

DC3 Dave 1st Mar 2022 11:38

Well, on a more positive note, today is the day we receive our city status. Charles and Camilla are here and are apparently are due to have a ride on the pier.

So will this event lead to a more appropriate name for the airport? London Southend City anyone!

London Southend City Airport has a nice ring to it I LIKE IT

LTNman 1st Mar 2022 21:05

Might as well drop the word London then as it isn’t making a difference. Southend City Airport.

London Southend airport is well positioned for the recovery and longer-term growth in air travel and, as volumes recover and more established London airports begin to face capacity constraints once again, London Southend airport’s London catchment area and strong transport links support positive growth prospects.
Southend now focused on 2023 as the airport’s strategy remains the same so will always be the last airport to recover from any dips to passenger numbers. This is the airport’s Achilles heel and why its recovery has yet to start. No simple answers though of a better way forward.

AirportPlanner1 24th Mar 2022 07:23

I think 2023 or later has been inevitable for some time. I wouldn’t rule out further additions though for 2022, many airlines are still announcing new routes even for just a couple of weeks time and I would not be surprised at all to see Alicante back for this summer.

DC3 Dave 8th Apr 2022 08:25

Given Easyjet’s current issues and the 100’s of cancellations, does anyone else consider there is a danger that those aircraft due to start arriving at SEN in May will end up being sent to LGW or LTN to support operations there?

LTNman 8th Apr 2022 08:50

Covid levels will be a fraction of what they are now, as the virus will have run out of people to infect by then. I am taking part in the Zoe symptom tracker and can see data that shows new cases are dropping fast. If flights were moved it won't be because of Covid.
