The council still can’t make a business case for the £125m T2 approach road that is masquerading as a road to a much reduced Century Park. The council are now having another attempt at gaining a grant by putting its spin doctors and consultants on overtime.
Somethings you just can’t make up. As some will know T2 and what is left of the Century Park business park will be located on a toxic waste tip that is planned to be dug out. In honour of the tip, Century Park is going to be renamed Green Horizons. Some are speculating that the new name has been decided on to celebrate the toxic gases that are going to be released. Its new name is almost as good as Luton Rising, which is now called Luton Rising Temperatures, Luton Rising Emissions, Luton Rising Noise or Luton Rising Pollution by its opponents. The Dart is going to be operated as a separate company owned by LRT but run by LLAOL for a £9m fee. This should mean a separate set of accounts. |
I know this was asked earlier in the thread, but anyone know why all aircraft have to backtrack all of a sudden? I had my first experience of it in a while a couple of days ago.

BTW Ryanair to Budapest & Burgas for S22, did I miss that announcement? |
It is a trial to see if departing aircraft make less noise on departure. I am guessing that a longer takeoff run might mean less thrust to get airborne.
|
To encourage a lower thrust setting must be the only factor. Makes a case for a longer runway or starter strip then........Long Haul for T2 when WZZ get those 321LRs

The trial ends in May. Trials are to see what happens in the real world by collecting real world data from noise monitors. The fact that more fuel burn so more pollution will be created on the ground by this trial hasn’t been lost.
|
Yes Burgas twice weekly. Cannot see Budapest though. Also Wizz UK doing a rugby charter from Paris to Cardiff for the Wales v France match.
|
The Article I read about Budapest has been rewritten to not include Luton anymore. Could have jumped the gun or sloppy reporting.

Oh the backtrack! That add miles to the gaps required by the tower for successive arrivals. Dedicated hold may come in rather useful during peak periods.
Intersection departures are also more about the rejected take off scenario, less runway to stop. Don't see why you would always need more power to depart from the intersections, but you'll need to stop by the runway end in the event of major issue. |
Don't see why you would always need more power to depart from the intersections At STN, It's not uncommon to see Ryanair and Jet2's on Txy L intersection departures from 04 (TORA of 2392m) running to only a few hundred meters before the 22 threshold on a de-rated takeoff. That's easily 2000m+ of runway being used there. The TORA from Txy A on 25 at LTN is only 1771m, so certainly more power needed than perhaps otherwise required. |

I have said it before, let's get more concrete laid. Signature & Harrods will get it full. Some creative ATC routing, hats of the guys, only noted one go around due to missed active exit. Not even summer, who would work in ATC? |
Sri Lanka
Fancy Sri Lanka from Luton for less than £150 from June?
OK via one of there East European hubs then Abu Dhabi but with their track record if it goes well expect one stop will be dropped! |

For those who are mystified by the reference to Sri Lanka, this article might help

Trip report Luton to Abu Dhabi
I flew Wizz Air all the way from London to Abu Dhabi — here’s why I wouldn’t do it again |
I did post a little tongue in cheek. Checked in luggage for all sectors and a better flight experience might be needed long term but EZY have evolved. Perhaps more like the Play model might be needed. Won't use them myself for US, still don't like being dumped in upstate New Jersey if I want to get to Manhatten, whatever the price!

Wizzair’s ground handler in financial trouble or just badly run? |

Wizzair’s ground handler in financial trouble or just badly run? The ballot begins on 16 March and ends on 31 March (at least according to the article on Luton Today), and the union, presumably, needs to give 14 days notice to the employer, which takes one to Thursday 14 April. Good Friday (i.e. 1st day of Easter holiday period in the UK) is 15 April. I'm guessing that the Easter rush will begin a few days before 15 April, so this might not have quite as much of an effect on Wizzair as the union would want. The only counter-reason I can think of is if employees are paid on (e.g.) the 14th of the month, hence the desire not to give the company an excuse to cancel or modify monthly payroll because of some reason to adjust the figures Note - My question is only on the effectiveness of the union's strategy - not on whether a strike should or should not take place |
