Moving routes to Edinburgh...
Putting more pressure on newcastle

Ryanair

Ryanair will add a "Brexit clause" for passengers booking tickets for summer 2019, warning passengers their tickets WILL NOT be valid if aviation is affected by Brexit and aviation regulation are not resolved in time

11 new routes for EDI. GLA base closed. 3 routes remain at GLA, 20 dropped

Skipness One Echo 27th Feb 2018 09:36

In Edinburgh, Ryanair’s Chief Commercial Officer, David O’Brien said:

“Ryanair regrets these cuts in the weaker Glasgow market where efforts to stimulate low fare demand are severely hampered by the continuing burden of APD.

As a result, we will transfer our Glasgow International based aircraft to Edinburgh in November where we will offer 11 new low fare routes (45 in total including London Stansted) and deliver over 3.5m passengers per annum at Edinburgh Airport.
APD is only a West Coast thing? Who knew?
PIK drops from 10 winter destinations to 8, BCN and LPA seemingly dropped.

Base closing yes...no flights at Glasgow...wrong. DUB, KRK & WRO remain

HH6702 27th Feb 2018 09:40

9 routes different I take it were already operating from EDINBURGH

Startledgrapefruit 27th Feb 2018 09:53

So it's build a base
Give lots of routes
Close it because there is a base not too far away and your customer feedback suggested they will shift airport.
Blame APD or Brexit.

Now meanwhile in Belfast....

SWBKCB 27th Feb 2018 09:57

and here's me thinking the key phrase in the statement was

weaker Glasgow market

flying phil 2007 27th Feb 2018 09:58

Glasgow is doomed due to APD and Brexit apparently..

.. although Edinburgh will be fine so they are boosting their presence there..

Got to love the Ryanair marketing department

sinbad73 27th Feb 2018 09:59

23 not 28 routes

This customer won't shift airport , flew with them several times since the base opened and have a few booked for this year. I'll just be switching airline !

mwm991 27th Feb 2018 10:01

Looks like further winter cuts at PIK too. BCN, LPA also gone.

Icanseeclearly 27th Feb 2018 10:12

Due to APD my ar*e at least be honest Ryanair.

Out of interest what happens to the crews do they automatically get a choice of bases or do they just get sent wherever?

Good luck to all affected

You might get away with that in Dublin, but not in the UK where the Unfair Contract Terms Act 1977 and the Consumer Rights Act 2015 Part 2 (which consolidated the UCTA) will apply

EIFFS 27th Feb 2018 10:18

Well I guess it’s one way to address their pilot shortage and piles more pressure on the SNP over devolved APD

Would it not also be unfair to offer flights for sale that you know you don't have the authority to operate?

Flightrider 27th Feb 2018 10:21

Where else do FR have single aircraft bases? Although GLA had two aircraft, one was STN which has been pulled for the winter. With Timisoara last week and Glasgow this week, the future doesn't look remotely bright for any other single aircraft bases.

shamrock7seal 27th Feb 2018 10:51

Although BOH is a single aircraft base in winter, 3 aircraft are needed in the summer months (with one permanent base at the airport and the rest flown in from other bases)
