2...Back in the day & for instance then would you have forecast the rise of an Irish airline with one EMB110 to well over 400 Boeings & counting. 1...Inherent in your work do you feel you are constantly looking backward & therefore failing to see the newer models?. 3...Would you have predicted the rise of the "big" alliances(tho they are of course the real grist to your mill)...& do you predict now their general demise?. 4...Oh & as you pick up EXS would have advised or even strong armed PM into putting the 1.4m seats in next summer? from zero a year ago. Not being a humourist or an MBNA they are tho genuine questions. Ta.) Not yet having those MBNA qualifications you entreated all to get before we could criticize a totally failing for all to see top management at MON back in late September there are several questions for you. It's really good to see LS at STN, however the growth numbers being bandied about are extraordainary, which whilst not impossible now MON have gone are still very punchy. |
PGT9G just arrived after SNOCLO followed by FCB650.
Only R/W exit available at the far end. |
Quite a long closure today Stansted normally cope a lot better but at least things seem to be improving slowly now
|
No point in continuing to clear a runway when it's snowing heavily.
Once the snow stops, you get on it and stansted airside team did so very quickly |
Yes..it is a very well rehearsed/planned operation..

Yes..it is a very well rehearsed/planned operation.. Just landed and ran the whole length 04 on the roll out. Whole based Ryanair fleet parked up and announcements being made to clear the terminal. No further availability until Thursday according to repeated PA. Given it’s not snowing and the field is open and this was at 6pm, is this really the best we can do? Thousands of people stranded. Did Ryanair just cancel the operation and go home? Kudos to easyJet though. |
Seems Stansted policy is to wait until snow stops then clear the runway rather than get 3 or 4 Aircraft on the taxiway ready to go with a couple of de-icers ready to spray clear runway and let the 3 or 4 get away and rhen repeat seem these days in the uk it’s total stop until wex is over
|
Is this a STN or a Ryanair issue, as the airport seems to be open?
Maybe Ryanair have cancelled the rest of todays programme to protect tomorrow's schedule. Presumably as weather related, no compensation? |

Did Ryanair just cancel the operation and go home? Kudos to easyJet though. Since EasyJet are operating then the airport is enabling them to. If all other Ryanair flights are full then they have little choice Load factors are in the high 90%, they lost so many flights they simply don't have the airframes, crews or airport capacity to simply add that number of flights tomorrow or the day after. No doubt any spare capacity is being utilised but I guess that has all gone until thursday |
Every intl gate on sat 2 and 3 has a dark FR 73H parked up and seemingly closed down.
They’ve all gone home leaving their passengers to er.....well you know. |
Just like BAW when they canx swathes of domestic when LHR is hit by bad wx then the well known bad wx contingency with RYR is to canx a complete bank of departures to protect the other banks & to save a/c then stranded overseas...it is observed perhaps as harsh but all majors would do that based in a Northern Hemisphere Winter. But you know that.
Just an observation but your EZY a/c if flying down from Scotland is almost certainly then based away so different factors in play..But again you would know that. |
Very reasoned responses above to Skipness One Echo who really being aware of the facts as an informed commentator on aspects of commerciality & an experienced traveller is choosing to be "awkward" with his posts.

it seems a reasonable response by Ryanair to cancel a day. Don't forget the weather is bad in Europe as well, FRA AMS and DUS have all been closed at some points today.
protecting tomorrow is a good call. |
& further but unconnected to STN, BAW evidently now experiencing large problems & all diverting away from LHR..I wonder how many DAYS this will all take to put back in place.
So appearing harsh for the RYR pax today this does appears a correct call by them. |
Ryanair chose a total strategic close-down rather than tactical cancellations.
No attempt made to operate third wave? southside_bobby it’s not helpful to be the defender of all things STN just cos you’re a local enthusiast, it’s a business not a footy team. There are many thousands of people stranded now being told there is nothing available til Thu and being asked to leave the terminal. The snow has long since stopped, the field is open and they have their biggest crew base on site. But you’re right, I am simply being awkard. What’s BA’s annual meltdown got to do with Ryanair? I’ve seen recoveries from SnClo over many years and this shower didn’t even try. No idea where you got me landing from Scotland btw, came in from a snowy GVA! |
protecting tomorrow is a good call. |
it is interesting to note that Ryanair are operating flights with none based aircraft. the WMI and MAD flights are on approach now
|
Is it not a bit erly to start protecting tomorrow. Specially for 1-2 hour flights they'd still be back by midnight. Evening pilots are not the same that flies in the morning and FR should have enough spare aircraft sloshing about. Every flown passenger is one less claim to handle. Even if there is no EU compensation there is still the little thing about food and accommodation.

SWBKCB...
Yes of course sad but true. Otherwise some uninformed posts now incoming so no further comment from myself. |
BA cancelled all shorthand today from Heathrow at about 14:00
I was sat in an SFOs kitchen when he got the email from work |
