Reality here indicates with it now also being highlighted by current development that the site Luton Airport sits on is severely constrained in geographic/topographic/political/social & slot terms.
It appears LTN will max out shortly at the 18mppa limit albeit slightly higher with planning tweaks perhaps. |
It has been noted on several occasions that the high class top end shops never have anyone in them apart from staff while the likes of WH Smiths and the new Boots are really busy. |
Maybe I am daft? I thought consultation was still open on the new road to Tinminal 2, sorry I meant Century Park? How can it have gained planning permission? Mr Confused Bear.
|
Buster is correct. Comments to be read out at the planning meeting are open until April 11th but we are talking about Luton Borough Council who don’t need to hear any evidence because it is council policy to build these roads. Also it is worth pointing out that the application was in complete beach of the Local Plan that was only adopted 18 months ago. it wouldn’t surprise me if Lee Baker Street was on the planning committee. |
I randomly looked at the departure board and noticed these 10 Ryanair arrivals. Think Luton has 6 based aircraft now??? so 4 ( edit) must be non Luton based.
15:25, Lanzarote 15:25 Copenhagen 15:55 Tenerife 16:05 Athens 17:05 Bologna 17:10 Cork 17:15 Faro 17:15 Dublin 18:25 Genona 19:10 Malta |
Why on a W pattern? Ryanair has based aircraft in at least half those destinations.
|
Yes spot on, wrong description used
|
Look for the outbounds that go back to the same destinations half an hour later. Faro, Gerona, most likely
|
Don't think it has been reported before, Wizz going up to daily on Keflavík from end of May.

No1 Lounges is opening a lounge at Luton in July

Now that the original Brexit day has passed, EasyJet and Wizzair seem to have separated out their UK/European operations. Most EasyJet flights using Luton are now flown with UK registered aircraft and using the EZY flight code. Some flights from EU destinations are operated by Austrian registered aircraft, carrying EJU codes and callsign Alpine.
Similarly, Wizzair UK flights are operated using G- registered aircraft and W9/WUK codes, whereas most Wizzair flights use the Hungarian registered fleet and W6/WZZ codes. There is some crossover, but not much. All Ryanair flights still use FR code and Irish-registered fleet (not even sure if any aircraft are G- registered). |
Ryanair UK has one 737 as G-RUKA

Today has seen the first Level flight, on the morning Amsterdam service previously operated by Vueling. Upgrade from A320 to A321.

That is some figure considering Easter was in March last year. It might not have a very good reputation but it doesn't seem to stop people using it.

It is a mystery that over 3 months after the terminal was meant to be completed it still isn’t completed although the airport claim it is. All that has happened is that the builders seem to have disappeared. It is the little things like the Blueair and Easyjet ticket counters are still using temporary structures. Just two of many examples of a long list. |

Looks like the new mainline franchise operator will run 2 trains per hour into parkway, if it gets awarded.

Summer 2019 schedule
I spent a few hours this afternoon putting together my usual summer schedule summary using airline booking websites - this is what it's looking like for Monday, 8th July 2019:
https://cimg9.ibsrv.net/gimg/pprune....21d3d890b9.jpg A few stats (with numbers from the same day last year in brackets): 40 (38) based aircraft - easyJet 24 (24), Wizzair 9 (8), Ryanair 6 (4) and TUI 1 (2) 360 (338) movements - easyJet 156 (156), Wizzair 136 (114), Ryanair 44 (32) and others 24 (36) - SunExpress, TUI, Level, Vueling and BlueAir |
Construction update
April marks the first anniversary of the official start of the Dart project between the railway station and the terminal. The Dart route is being dug out through the approach lights to runway 08. A signature bridge will cross the airport approach road at this point
https://i.imgur.com/eRSPk0R.jpg. Work on the construction site for the steelwork for the bridge has seen foundations being laid to support the bridge. Once complete it will be transported to its final location. https://i.imgur.com/q67RLAD.jpg Meanwhile by Taxiway Bravo the path of the route can clearly be seen. https://i.imgur.com/J1RKKAG.jpg Work has started on the construction to temporarily move Taxiway Bravo to the edge of the existing road tunnel https://i.imgur.com/expPmij.jpg The lift shafts for the second multistory are going in https://i.imgur.com/9rgm7bT.jpg The multistory has now reached its southern edge but is still to be made wider as it will butt up to the road when complete. Concrete is now being poured in some sections. https://i.imgur.com/ckRPCV4.jpg Work continues on the new parallel taxiway and de-icing pads. https://i.imgur.com/ibgVRlJ.jpg |
Reybridge, in part of their work doing Foxtrot, the lighting will be LEDs with this being rolled out throughout other taxiways. Suppose with current summer restrictions then the opportunity arose to do the whole job and reduce running costs.
Along with reduced NEO noice footprints will the summer restictions really be indefinite to quieter aircraft? |
As Buster has hinted LLAOL has submitted a planning application to the airport owner (the council) to increase both day and night noise limits as LLAOL can't meet them. When approved (because it will happen) overnight biz jets will return for the summer months from next year.

They know and so do other councils who are not best pleased.
|
What the 9insert word of choice) is a 'signature' bridge??
|
A signature bridge is a bridge that makes a statement but is now being described as an asymmetric structure and a gateway bridge which will be back lit with LED's. The ski slope is meant to represent an aircraft taking off. Luton has a long history of not building to artists impressions so we will see what the airport ends up with.

El Al
They celebrated their 1 millionth pax on Tuesday from Luton and up 19 departures per week this summer!
|
I see there was another false fire alarm and a photo of passengers pressed against the outside of the terminal as they have nowhere to go. Anyone remember when the bus caught fire at Stansted? Just hope that doesn't happen at Luton.

And on a lighter note, victorious European Football Champions returned home through Luton Airport yesterday after winning in Germany. LTFC Under 8s that is!
|
I see both Tromso and Verona on sale by Wizz for winter 2019-20. Some prices for Tromso are already quite steep not so Verona. Regarding football if both Chelsea and Arsenal reach the final of the Europa League it is being held in Baku Azerbaijan on Wednesday 29 May there is going to be a real scramble for aircraft across Europe with the Champions League final being held on the Saturday in Madrid with both Liverpool and Tottenham having a chance to reach the final.
|
It was quite the same with Kiev last year (?). Although probably fair to say that in normal conditions Baku is going to be quite a lot harder without charters. Wasn’t there a SAA charter from LPL last year?
|
If Spurs get through, just before the summer night ban!
