Athens, Bari and Reykjavik announced by Wizz Air.
|
Split has also now been loaded for the summer and the second morning flights to Bourgas on Tue, Thur and Sat.
Good to see Athens back daily 06.00 dep Bari 4 x wkly 1,3,5,7 06.30 dep Reykjavik 4 x wkly 1,3,5,7 07.10 dep Surprised they have gone for Reykjavik Think more additions are likely to come for the other days |
There is a large pocket of land to the south of the runway that is almost the size of the main apron that is still part of Luton that could be used just for biz jet storage. The problem is getting aircraft towed there which would mean crossing the runway but Luton’s runway is not always busy. Short term there is the NHT runway closure as well which will push up demand at Luton further. Athens, Bari and Reykjavik announced by Wizz Air. Reykjavik is getting very crowded now. |
7 airframes to be based including 2 A321s

Wizz is also to increase frequencies from Luton to Larnaca in Cyprus from seven to 10 flights per week from September 17 |
Sure there is some sort of restrictions regarding the flight crews used to fly into GIB
|
I thinik i read on the easyjet thread a while ago that it requires specific training
|
Something ex-MON crews would have had on their CVs and a premium to employers who might be serious about reconnecting this well established route. Time will tell.
|
Quite a few easy crew conversant with flying into GiB with schedules from Bristol, Gatwick and Manchester but as you say Pabely time will tell. Right about Athens but pleasantly surprised. Never saw Reykjavik or Bari but still no Plovdiv (second city of Bulgaria) which I have been droning on about for a whie.
Thse Tui flights are those extra to the original schedule? |
I imagine Wizz Air will have a bit more to announce with 7 based aircraft.
Plovdiv is just 2 hours from Sofia and has a decreasing population (unlike Burgas and Varna). Wizz Air have never operated anything from there but who knows, they might surprise us one day. I would expect a second Varna aircraft before. Ryanair beat them to Burgas. |
Airport Land
Hello LTNman,
"There is a large pocket of land to the south of the runway that is almost the size of the main apron that is still part of Luton that could be used just for biz jet storage. The problem is getting aircraft towed there which would mean crossing the runway but Luton’s runway is not always busy." As far as I am aware, there are only two pieces of land (south of the runway) owned by the airport. One parcel is the small area located near to Point A crash gate where spotters frequent and the area located opposite B1 and C1 taxiways, but that area is slightly smaller than the current south apron. Does the airport own the vast farm land south of the perimeter fence? |
I think LTNman is referring to Luton BC rather than Luton Airport. Have a look at http://www2.luton.gov.uk/localplan/m...set_02_066.htm
|
Yes, I used a poor choice of words as I was talking about the land that is within Luton rather than Hertfordshire.
Comparing the size of the south stands to the land within Luton’s boundary on Pabley’s link shows it could provide more than enough parking to keep all the FBO’s happy. As it could be just a remote apron it would not need the full range of services an apron would normally need. |
I wonder if EasyJet will announce GIB for the second phase of routes in January 2018? If anyone is to operate the LTN-GIB I would say it will be them who do it.

I wonder how much busier the FBO’s would be if they were not constrained.
