Interesting he says Beijing will be 5 weekly. The proposed Hainan flights have always been planned at 4 weekly. Maybe the delay in announcing of Hainan were to squeeze the extra flight out of them.
As for the Shanghai route, wonder who that will be, but, to go from zero to 3 Chinese flights in the space of a year would be a tad overkill, even by my optimistic standards. |
I would normally agree with WR, however having travelled to China 3 or 4 times a year for the last 15 years you learn that Beijing and Shanghai are different markets and there I am sure is the scope for both.
Personally I believe Shanghai is the better route from a business point of view. |
As for Shanghai,
Air China have said no new routes to Europe in 2015, just increases to existing destinations. I'd be surprised if China Eastern are interested, they seem very conservative with their routes. China Southern are CAN based, and, Id say BHX is higher on their radar for them. That means my money is on a double deal with Hainan. They run Paris-Xi'an, which is non hub to non hub, therefore, MAN-PVG not impossible. |
Did they actually welcome Cathay Pacific to MAN with PR announcing competitors? 😳 Air China and Cathay are very close although in different alliances, one wonders whether CA might actually be PEK-MAN bound regardless of what PR guff comes out of the press office.

on Facebook it is being suggested JAL to Tokyo MON, THR, FRI, SAT may well be announced in the coming months.
And Thomson to Phuket for Winter 15 |
Who's Facebook pwalhx ?

On the Manchester Airport (MAN-EGCC) page

pwalhx.
With LHR now only getting 1 JAL flt a day, it would be very surprising if MAN could support one perhaps ? Nigel |
Nigel JAL have been evaluating MAN for a while and apparently their management have been on 3 visits recently looking around the ramp area
so no smoke without fire maybe. Ian |
I don't know Nigel, I merely passed on something I read, which in turn rhymed with reports of visits by JAL.
I am not in a position to explain the relationship between the number of flights to LHR against the viability of an operation to MAN. |
I fail to se how the number of flights an airline has at LHR directly correlates to how many flights MAN could get?
Maybe its a slot issue? In other news, I see American are running B767's on both the JFK and ORD today. |
Out of the 3 Chinese routes, HKG is the thinnest one (130,000 a year) with Beijing and Shanghai both chipping in at around 150,000 a yearaccording to Charlie Cornish. A 5 weekly A330 to Beijing may not have enough capacity if those figures are correct?

Cathay Pacific increasing to daily from Friday Oct 2nd.
|
Turkish are 3 daily from 28 june.
|
Wow, Manchester is certainly on a roll at the moment.
On that 3rd daily Turkish, what is the departure time? The 4 hr flight and 2 hr time difference is not the most conducive to nice daylight flying. Last time I took the afternoon flt, I ended up arriving at midnight or something like that for a wee small hours connection. |
TK1941 IST 2030 MAN 2240
TK1942 MAN 2345 IST 0545 A319 operates. 18 weekly from 22/5/15 then 21 weekly from 23/6/15. Confirmed and bookable on website. |
Thanks.

JAL management have definitely been knocking around MAN recently and also in contact with handling agents enquiring on equipment available etc etc, although I'm unsure if this is for diversion purposes or for scheduled flights.
