Ah, the old "I know something you don't know" playground game

Cautious Optimist 28th Jun 2016 16:54

Don't think I like saying it, I said the below quote for that very reason!!!

Uncertain times?

CO,P330 et al,no on the contary you will not be shot down in flames if you come up with some genuine ,positive progress. It,s just not there and along with many other airports, especially Northern ones, the future now is murky to say the least!
Easy jet especially are looking dodgy...but also many other foreign carriers with UK business...Norwegian,Vueling,Transavia etc.

Where are new business decisions (and when)regarding routes and development going to come from?
The harsh facts are the incumbents of DTV have chosen to go down the route of basically limited aviation exposure(on reflection it may be a good business decision?) and all who are interested and care about the airport as a true effective aviation business/airport may have a rather long wait.

Cautious Optimist 28th Jun 2016 20:22

highwide...we have come up with "genuine, positive progress" more often than not, people are just too blind to see it.

If you seriously think the airport is going down the pan you need to take another look at where it is now compared with just a couple of years ago, and when you notice the significant increase in business and companies on-site, and the subsequent increase in aircraft movements (even if it's not the airliners everyone wants) ask yourself where it all came from if they wanted to run the place down (yawn).

oldart 29th Jun 2016 08:45

Surely it's the larger passenger aircraft that generate more business within the terminal and therefore encourage more outlets to return.

jamesgrainge 29th Jun 2016 14:58

Could someone explain to me how prime commercial land was bought for £500,000, or was that a typo? Our house and land was recently valued at over £500k with just four acres of probably difficult housing potential?

I think for that money we should all just club together and buy the surrounding land as obviously its dirt cheap around DTV?

No-More-Bullschit 29th Jun 2016 16:01

Here we go again, another conversation about how much was paid for the land...

SWBKCB 29th Jun 2016 16:18

Life's easier with 20x20 hindsight, however. The associated debt/losses get forgotten about.

Also, does make you wonder why Peel have taken so long to exploit this "prime commercial land" - Sheffield keeps getting quoted, so if it was that good a deal why wait till now?

HWAG

Oh, I see I'm getting dragged into it now eh?😜

I know I am more optimistic the most, but that is because I am regular user of the airport and have had close connections to it for many years. I am also a realist and someone who knows about business.

The issue here is a disconnect between what most expect a successful airport to look like (plenty of passenger flights) v what a business owner wants (maximum return for his cash). The airport itself is busy and in my opinion, busier than it has been in a while. Sadly this isn't passenger operations and therefore doesn't make most people's radar.

As for the future, who knows, but I wouldn't be expecting anything radical on the passenger front. The best chance of an increase I think is a 4th Amsterdam.....

highwideandugly 30th Jun 2016 06:54

P330,I was applauding not critiscing your efforts ( and others)to raise moral!!

Your point is very valid...the dividing line between what the public want and what the owners want..and in a nutshell this is what causes the disquiet?
Interesting point re 4 th Amsterdam...with larger aircraft taking on the route,I feel we need to consolidate with our 3. ,4 could be a way off ??

N707ZS 30th Jun 2016 16:56

What would be the best time for an extra Amsterdam? Presume timing is needed to connect with outbound and inbound flights from Amsterdam.

tigertanaka 30th Jun 2016 17:58

Mon-Fri times for the 3 local airports are as follows (although do change by 5-10 minutes depending on the week)

Outbound departures:
MME: 06:20, 10:10, 17:10
NCL: 06:00, 09:15, 11,10, 13:25, 17:30
LBA: 06:20, 09:10, 13:25, 17:20

Inbound Arrivals:
MME: 09:40, 16:40, 21:30
NCL: 08:35, 10:25, 12:50, 16:40, 22:20
LBA: 08:35, 12:45, 16:45, 22:15

It would appear that an early afternoon departure would be the most likely as thats what NCL and LBA both have. NWI is on 4 rotations and they have a 14:10 departure too.

I appreciate that MME is more of an outbound airport but I think that an early afternoon flight would work well for visitors who could do a lunch-to-lunch meeting in the Teesside area and then get home at a reasonable time. I know my European colleagues would prefer this than getting the 5pm flight to AMS and getting a connection which gets them home at midnight.

P330 30th Jun 2016 18:44

My guess would be the 10.10 moves forward a bit and a 4th comes in between 1pm and 2pm.

Pure speculation of course.

highwideandugly 18th Jul 2016 17:38

Nothing on here since June!! Let's talk politics...one of DTV's main supporters has gone!! Anyone any idea how that will effect the airport?
Looking forward to flying from here on Sunday...I promise a true and honest reflection!!

Aye righto. There's no way your interpretation of a "true and honest reflection" is the same as the dictionary definition. You're one of the negative brigade and therefore I would suggest you have already more or less decided what you're going to write.

Give a dog...

Now,now..that's not fair! I am fully expecting a seamless trouble free transit.Employed Airport staff are not the problem ..it's the upper tier management..is it not?

is that a parachute jump??

highwideandugly 19th Jul 2016 15:41

Rip cord....

Good guess..it's all there is!! Will give you a wave..promise you won't look up and hope for moths in the rigging!!

Original point. James Wharton was a very active supporter of the airport..wonder if he will continue with a much needed voice?
