Munster is virtually a given, I would also guess Groningen and Maastricht from my suggestions for Benelux.

As for Northern Europe, there is no route to Hamburg from STN or LCY so that could be a good shout, other previous guesses of mine were Kristiansand and Paderborn.

I suspect EDI will be in there, the start date pretty much corresponds with the end of EZY

toledoashley 25th Mar 2014 13:57

Flybe had confirmed Newquay from Southend. Announced before the tie-up, could that be moved over, or will flyBe operate that themselves?

cornishsimon 25th Mar 2014 16:58

NQY is scheduled to operate on the NQY based DH8 afaik

FlyNonstop managed only to scrape together 8,467 passengers the around six months they flew KRS-LCY before they went bust. My advice to Stobart would be: Don't even think about it.

The three larger Norwegian airports could be something for them and all three have flights only to Gatwick and Heathrow and with that no coverage to the north and east of London. The three airports are:

OSL (Oslo Airport, Gardermoen)
1,014,434 passengers to London in 2013 = 37% of all passengers between Norway and the UK
The passenger numbers grew with 8% from 2012.

BGO (Bergen Airport, Flesland)
308,809 passengers to London in 2013 = 11% of all passengers between Norway and the UK
The passenger numbers grew with 52% from 2012.

SVG (Stavanger Airport, Sola)
284,450 passengers to London in 2013 = 10% of all passengers between Norway and the UK
The passenger numbers grew with 24% from 2012.

As a reference: one daily return trip for a 72 seat ATR72-600 equals to 52,560 seats to fill in a year and 5 weekly flights generate 37,543 seats to fill in a year.

davidjohnson6 25th Mar 2014 17:34

Easyjet have stated publicly they intend to release seats for winter 2014-15 in early April. Seats for June 2014 were released almost 7 months ago.
Stobart Air are planning to release seats for June 2014 in early April. The commercial opportunities of 2 UK bank holiday weekends in May will not be available to the new airline. As of late March, details of destinations / schedules are yet to be released.

I know 2 months lead time ain't bad, but it all seems a bit tight

cornishsimon 25th Mar 2014 18:03

If these are likely to be new destinations flybe/stobart will surely want feed ? Perhaps Manchester ? As its a large flybe base ?

Gentlemen. Kindly wait until next week when the destinations and schedules are announced and tickets go on sale. I don't see any point in all this guessing the name of the cities game. Be patient. Thanks.:ok:

Ah, you've not visited PPRuNe before ... ;) :)

Tickets go on sale via Flybe.com on 3rd April to a mix of destinations in Benelux and Northern Europe.

I suspect EDI will be in there, the start date pretty much corresponds with the end of EZY
Hmm, then they must be predicting Scottish independence...:hmm:

Stobart Air to buy four new aircraft after Flybe deal - Independent.ie

Story actually says they are looking to exercise existing options

Speaking to the Irish Independent, Stobart Air interim chief executive Sean Brogan said that the airline will next week receive delivery of the final ATR 72-600 aircraft that was part of an eight-aircraft order made in 2012.

He confirmed that the company has options to buy four more aircraft. He said that while the options are likely to be exercised, he declined to say when Stobart Air might like to see deliveries of those additional aircraft begin. He said negotiations on exercising the options would probably begin this year.

Does anyone have an insight as to whether SA will change the callsigns, or given their background, should that be handle, of fights from "Aer Arann"/"Arann"? Perhaps "Rubber Duck" might be a suitable new option.

No, don't get up ... I'll let myself out .....

Just a spotter Ten Four

Is that a Smokey I see or more likely a Bear in the Air..........

Sober Lark 26th Mar 2014 16:27

Naming and branding it as Stobart Air could turn out to be a huge blunder.

SWBKCB 26th Mar 2014 16:53

What branding? to the flying public it's Aer Lingus or flybe.

Sober Lark 26th Mar 2014 17:07

Aer Arran name rebranded to Stobart Air but keeping the livery.

JC25 26th Mar 2014 23:35

Yes, but flying under franchise for Aer Lingus and Flybe...

xtypeman 27th Mar 2014 08:48

Of course it maybe to tap into the Stobart fan club. At one time was it not the profit from the fan club that kept the company solvent. Maybe one air frame may get Stobart logos for the charter market and used for football or rugby teams.......

EI -FCY

Arrived Dub today delivery, full EIR cs
So just one more 600 due in June.
7 brand new planes is impressive over such a short period. well done
EI and Stobart who own them via a holding company

LTNman 11th Apr 2014 04:34

Not a good start for StobartAir, which was created to boost passenger numbers at Stobarts own Southend on Sea airport. The new Cologne service which has been taking bookings for less than a week has already been dropped due to competition from a new service from Stansted.

virginblue 11th Apr 2014 06:29

Just wondering - is it common practice in the industry that an airport supports a fully fledged route launch while it is in the final stages of negotiating a competing route - a route that undoubtedly will kill off the just released other route and leave an airline customer with a serious amount of egg in the face?
