I thought they were doing Malaga / EDinburgh this summer but I could not book any direct flights ? Seemed odd in view of LS/FR having route to themselves.

789's

Wiki and a couple of press releases show their 787-9's to be configured with 344 seats, 291 in economy and 53 in premium. Hopefully the increase in premium seats as well as economy is a sign that the premium cabin has been successful for Norwegian, if the information is correct of course.

Can anyone give a window for when each of the first 4 789's are expected to join the fleet in 2016 or is it too early to tell?

TWADDELL 30th Apr 2015 15:55

Munrobagger - seems the lack of direct EDI / AGP flights is a "glitch" on the system and the flights are still operating this summer. At least that is what they told me when I called to check my booking for July. Am I convinced that my direct flight will not include the sights of Oslo airport????

LNIDA 30th Apr 2015 16:44

The direct flights start May and operate Tue/Sat until the end of Summer program then switch to Thursday/Sunday and will operate year round, flight frequency will increase next when additional aircraft are delivered, the flights are operated by a Malaga based aircraft & crew, you shouldn't see Oslo, just make sure to 'click' direct flights only option and it will filter out the Oslo connection, if you book to go through Oslo its one booking rather than two separate booking.

LNIDA do you have any info as to whether BHX - MAD will be operating through the winter, or if not is it planned to return for S16?

Thanks in advance.

toledoashley 30th Apr 2015 21:23

When I few back from New York in November, Premium was half full, with half off passengers either opups or paid at check in £250.

Its a decent product, but not worth £1100 each to New York.

Hallo Folks
what is the roster pattern for a LAX flight? Thanks

LNIDA 1st May 2015 15:35

I think MAD & BCN will probably return for Summer 2016 but AGP will run year round, I'm surprised that there is nothing on offer for BHX for LPA/TFS/ACE/FUE for this winter, but Norwegian are often quite late to put a product on sale, so it may come yet. Its no secret that they are very keen to grow UK market share, the LGW base has exceeded all expectations, Norwegian had a 10% market share at the UK's second largest airport in the first 1/4 of 2015 and are now the 3rd largest operator there behind BA and easyJet, not bad in two years.

I would suspect we will see some dream-liner flights from BHX before 2016 is out, if they can work from Bergen they can work from BHX.

The MAX can do Mumbai from the UK perish the thought....

The 787-900 will be wifi equipped

BHX-BCN is going to be a battle this summer with 4 carriers on the route , albeit none of them very high frequency. I am not saying it is unsustainable as it is a very popular route but it will certainly say something about Norwegian and their competitiveness should they continue to offer the route in S16.

Norwegian Air Shuttle

I have seen no public announcement from US authorities that their application for flights to and from the US has been approved.
Yet it appears they are flying routes to and from the US on a regular basis
Anyone know how this can be legal?
D

LNIDA 1st Jun 2015 18:09

The application hasn't been approved or rejected, due politics mainly.

The USA flights from Scandinavia are unaffected

The 787's will move onto the UK register shortly, followed in due course by the short haul fleet.

Long haul crews are now based in LGW paid in £ paying all relevant taxes and NI

The view is that a G plate with CAA oversight, locally employed crews operating within UK employment law, then the USA will not be able to reject the application under open skies, time will tell.

Crazy EDI.TFS - we have LS/FR/TOM/EZY already . Hope they know this !!

Very interesting! I am sure a certain 3 major airlines will be delighted...

Has winter 2015-16 now been fully loaded ? If so, it would appear Gatwick-Alesund and Gatwick-Sandefjord/Torp will not operate in the winter

EI-BUD 26th Jun 2015 07:21

New routes to the US from the Caribbean; seems completely random, for a brand completely unknown in these markets, I wish them well but I sense it is not a wise move.... A bold move none the less.

Their American rivals have very deep pockets, are on the up and up and have been known to take all necessary measures to protect their patch!

Not as random as it might appear, it's actually very creative thinking, much is to do with the cruise market, it's only a 4 month program although tickets are on open sale ie not charter only, these flights will connect with the daily LGW JFK service which in turn is fed from other European routes

The aircraft( 737-800) are to be based in the French Caribbean ( EU terroity ) one in each base plus spare/back up aircraft and crewed from Europe on a secondment, not commute contract until the end of March 2016 after which the aircraft will return to Europe

Much of the capacity is pre sold to the cruise/charter market around Europe I doubt the big boys in the U.S. will give a toss, although their anti Norwegian rhetoric will up Norwegians profile

Uses spare European capacity during winter win win me thinks :ok::ok:
