Norwegian have released November/December LH W15 at Gatwick. It looks to still be 2 aircraft, but with a lot of gaps:
JFK returns to 3x p/w - Tuesday/Thursday/Saturday (from x6 in S15) LAX drops to 3x p/w - Tuesday/Thursday/Sunday (from x4 in S15) Neither Florida route returns FLL or MCO. |
Only 1 additional 787 joining the Norwegian fleet this year, so not expecting much change, plus there will be one aircraft more or less on check throughout the Autumn.

The 8th B788 is right now in position 4 at the Charleston assembly line. Rollout is scheduled for 17 February and delivery 15 March.

2014 wasn't a good year for Norwegian.
Here is the citation from Financial Times Shares in Norwegian Air plunged 14 per cent on Thursday morning after the low cost carrier crashed into the red for the first time in eight years. The airline made a net loss of NKr1.05bn in 2014, down from a net profit of NKr321.6m in 2013 after the airline was hit by strikes, costly disputes with US regulators over its trans-Atlantic flights and problems with its new Boeing Dreamliner aircraft /../ Bjørn Kjos, chief executive, said: There is no denying that 2014 has been a weak year for Norwegian… there is no doubt that we need to further reduce our cost level in order to stay competitive in a very challenging market. Disruptions on Norwegian's long-haul routes cost the company NKr265m as it had to hire replacement aircraft and pay for food and accommodation for delayed passengers. The loss of NKr1.05bn was almost double Bloomberg analyst consensus of NKr686.4m. |
What's in for 2015 as DY won't give up their long-haul plans? Also growth on short/medium haul flights is not as like it was the years before.

Norwegian will need to get generate profits in any way possible as it's rivals are doing year on year otherwise a big rethink will have to occur. Another poor quarter will not bode well for them.

The report on their investor forum makes interesting reading, the depreciation of the NOK seems to have hit them hard, ditto the losses on the 2015 hedge positions which have been taken into the 2014 accounts.
Long haul is still costing money and DoT delays is a huge distraction. On the up side the short haul business seems to be doing very well, but with a strike possible that might take a hit, not much expansion or additional aircraft due in 2015 so maybe the expenses will stabilise? forward hedges on fuel seem to been taken at the bottom of the fuel price cycle. 1st quarter report should give a better insight |
In my opinion they have expanded to some markets (like UK), where they have faced pretty tough competition from several really low-cost oriented carriers (easy, FR) and it might have been not the very wise move. Scandinavia (especially Finland) is still somewhat isolated and flight fares are significantly higher here with less competition, so... does everybody have to be everywhere?

Norwegian have similar market shares at both Helsinki & LGW (12% & 13% respectively) the difference is that in the last 1/4 of 2014 the Helsinki market was 3.8m passengers whilst at LGW it was 8.3m passengers
Yes its a big, very big easyJet base but Ryanair's presence is very small, its this market size that drives the volume, plus the UK economy is the fastest growing in Europe |

In the end their was around 12 people in it each way, but I found premium very nice, food was good and staff were very friendly, the only issue I found was the middle armrest in the seats, if both people in front have reclined their seats and your by the window it is really difficult to get out even for someone average size! But Dreamliner is a great aircraft to fly on as a passenger! Ps. Economy was full each way as well |

Any news on when/if winter schedules for Norwegian are going to be released from BHX, flights only run until end of Oct, other new routes announced like EDI-AGP are now bookable through to March
I really hope Norwegian is not yet another airline doing a BHX one season wonder experiment..... |

I'm pretty sure they have a marketing / visibility problem.
That is to say, I'm pretty sure I know of more airlines than the average person on the street, and I've never heard of this airline outside these forums. Their website has the feel of Expedia rather than an airline website, and while that's not at all a bad thing in itself (it makes them a bit like Jet2), if it is at all possible to find out where they fly from their website it's not obvious how (unlike with Jet2). (Edit; I found it. Still maintain it's not obvious...) |

Visibility, i agree but they are No3 behind FR & easyJet in Europe
All depends where you live really, in 2014 they carried 24m passengers and have a 13% markets share at LGW, but not much point marketing yourself outside catchment area, that of course now includes BHX. Re where they fly, if you click on flights on the home page, you can select your departure point, it then shows all destinations from that point, you can refine between direct and connecting flights, on this last point you are booked through, so its not a DIY connection, there are currently no connecting flights from BHX, but there are a total of 46 destinations listed from EDI, 39 from MAN & 93 from LGW I would be surprised if there isn't a winter program probably AGP/TFS/LPA would be my guess :ok: |
They are recommended quite highly in the Which magazine, which should advertise the brand a bit elsewhere.

The EDI AGP Flights are routed through Scandinavia over the winter and are not direct, so its just a summer season before some get excited about "bases" etc
