Any idea how bookings are going for links air?

davidjohnson6 3rd Apr 2014 22:04

stab3 - would suggest trying different date-route combinations in april and seeing how many seats (website allows trying to book 9 adults in one go) remain available at the lowest fare. If flights begin on 11 april, then at some point soon, lowest fare seats should start to become scarce if links air is to make a profit, particularly if 19 seat J31s are to be the workhorse aircraft

Are there some more routes due to be announced. My neighbour read in the paper one if the Airlines is expanding and is bringing several routes to Doncaster. ..
He thought it was Easyjet but I said no chance.
So none the wiser n hes lost the paper

jonathan78 7th Apr 2014 04:56

Ji heard a whisper jet2.com to come to Donny

TimmyW 7th Apr 2014 09:57

I doubt Jet2 would come to DSA. Why would they?

Onyx - it was probably Wizz who have just expanded or Links Air. That's who the local papers have recently reported on.

I doubt Jet2 would come to DSA. Why would they?
It's unlikely to happen, but why wouldn't they?

From Doncaster, LBA is 1.5 hours away, and East Mids is an hour. From Lincolnshire, they are even further.

DSA to LBA is 55 miles. Jet2 have bases at Blackpool and Manchester (57 miles apart), and Glasgow and Edinburgh (48 miles apart).

rpmac 7th Apr 2014 11:02

I think the focus should be more on Sheffield than Doncaster. Sheffield has over half a million population whereas Doncaster is only about 300,000.
So if you are travelling from Sheffield then EMA, MAN and possibly LBA provide strong competition for DSA meaning that setting up in DSA for Jet2 is less attractive.

TimmyW 7th Apr 2014 11:06

Don't forget you also have Barnsley and Rotherham with population's around the 300k mark.
But for me, it's too close to their other bases.
The only growth I can see in the future is from Wizz who are expanding this year and possibly Links Air if they are successful, which is a big if.

Thomson are clearly scaling back their DSA operations and their contract expires in 2015.

wb9999 7th Apr 2014 11:07

Don't forget Lincoln, Scunthorpe, Grimsby and Hull, which when added to Doncaster, exceeds Sheffield's population.

With the 50MPH for 20 miles of roadworks on the M1, it took me 2 hours to get from Sheffield to M1 J23A several weeks ago thanks to a broken down lorry on the M1. EMA can be a pain to get to from Sheffield in rush hour.

rpmac 7th Apr 2014 11:42

So if you add in Lincoln, Hull etc would it not make sense to expand at HUY rather than DSA, in fact I wonder if Thomson might then move from DSA to HUY then they would have a presence at LBA, MAN, EMA and HUY !!

wb9999 7th Apr 2014 11:46

No, because you then lose the catchment area of Doncaster, Sheffield, Rotherham, Barnsley.

Doncaster is central for Hull, Sheffield, Lincoln, Scunthorpe. Humberside isn't. It's almost as quick to go from Doncaster to EMA as it is to HUY.

TimmyW 7th Apr 2014 11:54

I guess a lot depends on what deal DSA are willing to give Thomson after their contract expires. Thomson won't be happy after being shunned out of Teeside I suspect.

Would love to see Jet 2 come in, however it isn't realistic, as they'd just be diluting their other bases.

Links Air

The first Links Air flight has departed DSA on schedule to Belfast City Airport :ok:

INeedTheFull90 11th Apr 2014 10:30

Great. Were there any passengers on it?

TimmyW 11th Apr 2014 19:07

Spoke to someone who works at the airport, there were 5 passengers on the outbound flight and 4 on the inbound.
Hardly fills you with confidence.

ericlday 11th Apr 2014 19:18

Not really the ingredients for success but early days so time for improvement.

jumpseater 11th Apr 2014 20:13

You have to remember they are Timmys ingredients:yuk: from Timmys sources.

So Timmy how does the person you spoke to account for the discrepancy between your figures and those actually showing from the airport?

Hardly fills you with confidence.

TimmyW 11th Apr 2014 20:50

Really - what figures are these? Do you have a source?

jumpseater 11th Apr 2014 23:36

Timmy W
Do you have a source?

I'll give you a clue Timmy:ok: The bit in the post #636 immediately above yours that said :

those actually showing from the airport

sort of gave a clue to the source wouldn't you agree? :ugh:

Now bearing in mind I've seen a set of pax numbers for today:8, (supplied by the airport), that are significantly different (larger) to those from your source who works at the airport, I'm just asking you why your source seems to be so poorly informed?, and to account for the discrepancy.

If there were only five/four people passengers on the plane,(using your figures), why did the 'load sheet' (as just one example of relevant documentation:8 ), reflect a different loading in terms of passenger numbers?

On both legs. :=

That would be a remarkable error to have occurred on two consecutive sectors, from two different teams of handling agents at separate airports.

Don't you agree?

LBIA 12th Apr 2014 00:24

Oh so what you saying is that there was 4 booked passengers on today's first flight, but the plane may have had some freebies onboard for press reasons?

If not jumpsteater! Why not post and share the real figures to prove TimmyW wrong?
