I also agree! It's related to the NCL base IMO.

TCDA has also now positioned in to operate the delayed DLM rotation that TCDF would have also operated. Not a great day.

nclops 5th Jul 2014 22:23

Quite simple really, LGW, MAN etc are much bigger airports that experience these sorts of delays frequently. NCL however is much smaller and experiences delays like this relatively infrequently, hence they become more newsworthy for airports like NCL and the local people who are interested in the happenings at their local airport!

ash666 6th Jul 2014 06:45

I would never trust a holiday to TCX from NCL. This seems to be all too frequent and none of the other airlines seem to suffer anything like as much.

LiamNCL 6th Jul 2014 10:12

DF Still isnt operating this morning , DZ is covering ! Still not as bad as last years delays

MATELO 14th Jul 2014 12:42

Any info on KLM959 that returned to AMS today.

Got as far as the east coast of UK then turned back saying "diverted" on arrivals board.

I noticed that DXB had decreases from each UK airport (with NCL being the largest in terms of % as you would expect), I also noticed that leisure routes to Spain, including the canaries, Greece, Turkey etc. All had decreases as well, does anybody know why? Was their something last June that caused loads to be somewhat increased? For example (unrelated) I know that fluctuations in the timing of easter can cause March and April to have peaks on certain years but I'm confused with June...

Thank you

GrahamK 15th Jul 2014 14:20

Thomas Cook had 757s last year vs the smaller A321 this year

EK77WNCL 15th Jul 2014 14:31

Unfortunately that might explain some of it, but Jet2 and Thomson also had some decreases. Some were in the order of 2,000 pax over the month which I think the loss of 20 seats per flight, although it would build up, wouldn't have that much of an adverse effect.

G-TYNE 15th Jul 2014 14:58

World Cup, Wimbledon, Glastonbury. Added to the capacity cuts from TCX it'd probably all add up to keep some people at home

HH6702 15th Jul 2014 17:58

pax figures

Also not being able to take your children out of school without being fined will take effect on some of those routes.

Yes smaller planes by TCX also

Been some cheap deals around also during june so maybe people are holding back not having as much money

EK77WNCL 15th Jul 2014 18:25

Cheers, hopefully there might be a bit of a jump in July

N707ZS 15th Jul 2014 19:52

Presume the upturn at Edinburgh might affect the pax numbers.

EK77WNCL 15th Jul 2014 21:08

I hope not :/ what I did notice was that their new QR service carried 6703 pax for the month, there were 44 flights for June, about 152 pax per flight, which represents a load factor of 59.8%... compared to the first month of EK at NCL which carried approximately 159 pax per flight (9552 pax - 60 flights) which is between 57% and 71% load factor or 64% if you work out the mean... So basically without all the maths, EDI and NCL seem pretty much on par in terms of the first month of service, I do think that had EK been the first to EDI the numbers would have been closer to 10,000+ but anyway, that will be one to watch, and even moreso when EY start (QR will probably be daily by then too).

Who's next for NCL!?!?! ;)

MATELO 16th Jul 2014 17:55

Tks Marra.

Newcastle.....no progress?

Looking from south of the river from a no hope airport....it strikes me that the only premier style airport in the north east has very little good news compared to other northern/Scottish airports??

Nothing really to shout about..no Frankfurt,Istanbul dare I say it New York! Or even anything other than the odd 'new' alicante route????

Come on guys someone pull there finger out or we will continue to be a desert in the aviation route world!!:{

Newcastle Airport could get government aid after all - if EU agrees

Ministers are in talks with the European Commission about whether Newcastle Airport can be included in a £20m grant to introduce flights to the US

More confusion over whether Newcastle Airport was in line for a share of a £20 million fund to help it develop new routes followed a statement from Ministers that they must ask the European Commission for permission to hand over the cash.

Newcastle MP Chi Onwurah received assurances that the Government hoped to back Newcastle Airport, as she questioned Transport Ministers in the House of Commons.

But she said: “It would have been better to have got the policy right in the first place than trying to fix it now.”

It follows Chancellor George Osborne’s announcement in the Budget earlier this year that a £20 million Regional Air Connectivity Fund would be made available for airports outside the planned high speed rail network to help them attract airlines and launch new services.

This raised hopes Newcastle Airport could secure its long-held ambition of providing regular trans-Atlantic flights.

But it then emerged that only airports with less than three million annual passengers would be eligible for the assistance - while Newcastle currently serves around 4.7m each year.

The airport asked local MPs to help it secure a share of the fund.

And Ministers have now said they hope to ensure airports with fewer than five million passengers are included, but only if the EU agrees.

Speaking in the House of Commons, Ms Onwurah, MP for Newcastle upon Tyne Central, said: “Newcastle airport grew its freight from £20 million in 2006 to £250 million last year, mainly on the back of the new Dubai route, but because it attracts more than 3 million passengers per year, it cannot have access to the regional connectivity fund.

“So what is the Minister doing to bring new routes to Newcastle and improve the economy?”

Transport Minister Robert Goodwill told her: “I was pleased that the Chancellor announced the regional connectivity fund. When I was at Newcastle airport in February, there was excitement about that. It is also looking to serve further routes.

“Although the limitation is for airports of fewer than 3 million passengers, there is a provision under exceptional circumstances to allow airports such as Newcastle with fewer than 5 million passengers to participate.

“We are having conversations with the European Commission to ensure that we can do something and that we do not breach any state aid rules.”

Ms Onwurah said: “I thought he was desperately scrabbling to come up with a reasonable policy having realised that they made a mistake by excluding important regional airports like Newcastle from the means to help them grown.

“His reply was helpful but it would be much better if the scheme had been well thought through in the first place.”

The Commons Transport Committee has launched an inquiry into the role played by smaller airports.

It is to look at the strategic importance of smaller airports and the extent to which they meet the needs of regional economies.

The inquiry will also consider whether the Government is doing enough to support smaller airports.

And it will look at whether councils and local enterprise partnerships could do more to back smaller airports.

Written submissions can be provided to the inquiry by Friday 3 October 2014 through its website at www.parliament.uk/transcom .

Agreed, short term (less than 3 years) Frankfurt, Istanbul and incremental increases from TCX/TOM/LS maybe EZY are the way to go. Within 5 years, EK 2nd daily, 1-2 more EU routes. 10 years, New York.

Easier said than done though
