Its the almost yearly money flight from the local printing firm. Kuwait airways have sent all sorts of craft over the years. One got stuck one year when the wind turned and it couldn't take off due to the high ground on the 07 end.

I'm hoping that the airport will get some of the Ł20m Regional Airport Connectivity Fund, which is intended to encourage new routes from regional airports.

SWBKCB 20th Mar 2014 21:20

Regional Airport Connectivity Fund

Seen it reported that only available to airports with less than 3m pax, so maybe not.

CabinCrewe 20th Mar 2014 23:12

There is no maybe about it. Its for 3M and less only.

Jamesair 21st Mar 2014 00:15

hardly "regional" airports then! more like local airports.

Osborne mentioned Liverpool John Lennon as a potential beneficiary. If 3 million is the limit he doesn't know his own policy.

Jamesair 21st Mar 2014 18:25

The Chancellor actually in his speech.

"......and because we want all parts of our country to see better links with the markets of the future, we're going to provide start-up support for new routes from regional airports, like Liverpool, Leeds or indeed, Inverness"

I took that as meaning they are going to revisit and expand the scheme.

Just been reading a comment from Birmingham Airport who were expressing disappointment that it wouldn't cover airports such as theirs. However, reading the CAA report on the original scheme it does say that airports such as Newcastle could be considered in exceptional circumstances.

Thomson to offer direct flights to Dubrovnik for Summer 2015 , they announced it today via Thomson Cruises as they are basing a ship there and will add BRS, GLA & NCL to existing flights.

ash666 24th Mar 2014 19:39

That's good news

CentreFix25 24th Mar 2014 19:43

Although... unless its a 'W' or Subbed-Out or 4th based aircraft, then something existing has to make way for it.

SWBKCB 25th Mar 2014 06:50

The devil is in the detail...

Newcastle Airport likely to miss out on Chancellor's Budget fund cash - The Journal

a Treasury spokesman has since said that only airports with less than three million annual passengers – way below Newcastle’s current level of around 4.7m – would be eligible for the assistance under the fund.

Thomson

Hi

Is this new flight a Thomson flight number or is Thomson just buying seats on the jet2 flight??

There were plans this year for some extra flights however due to limited aircraft some of these were pulled.
It would be nice to see a 4th based aircraft at ncl shown thomsons support for our flights.

Maybe they are moving a 738 from lgw to ncl next summer and using DY more at lgw??

Should find out when flights go on sale end of April

GrahamK 25th Mar 2014 16:45

SN Brussels to codeshare with BM from 30th March

Grahamy 26th Mar 2014 16:43

Thomsons use Onur Air now for its Antalya flights , something i was not too pleased about, they should have no worries about basing a 4th aircraft at Newcastle

LiamNCL 30th Mar 2014 06:55

Jet2 operating LPA on a saturday for the full 14/15 winter season (other than 3 weeks break in January), appears to be using a 733. This winter it has been operated on a monday from Feb onwards using a 757 and mostly via EMA.
