Heard that 9GAED has been sold to Hanover Aviation to work along side ZSOSI out of MSE :ok:

Also, how do you think EasyJet running ten routes out of Southend next year will impact future routes from Manston? This must take up some of the catchment area.

I can also see job Opportunities for MSE staff at SEN with the sudden growth in movements ATC/OPS/FIRE SERVICE, anyone have any idea of pay scales at SEN? Should be ok as its a london airport!

Just to clarify... If you look on a map of the UK both MSE and SEN would seem close, but note the big stretch of water (Sea/Thames/Channel) between them. Road distance between the two is very much go west, then north (to cross the Thames at Dartford), then right back on yourself. They both serve VERY different areas/markets.

Could this be (or was this) KLM? I know PlaneStation were on the verge of pulling this one off before they went tit$ up??

KLM have a habit of doing things a minimum of 3 times daily neccessary to meet the transfer connections requirement, if it were KLM then MSE would be the only UK twice daily airport for them .... I'd suggest that it would be a UK operator if UK taxpayers monies were to be persuaded out of the government.

Manx2 are good at doing things subsidised, their CWL to/from RAF Valley service is government subsidised to the tune of £65 per fitted seat ..... 360 seats per week ..... for the next 4 years! :)

Afaik the route development funds from the Scottish Parliament (and NIA) didn't make any discrimination on airline nationality - I presume the EU would have something to say if they did?

The operation @EGO is more akin to a PSO, however artificially created this is! It is not as if Anglesey is floating in the middle of the Atlantic!

I would assume that any kind of regional fund would operate more like the former above, not the latter - but why taxpayer money is needed at all in a region with excellent (and now high speed) links to London is a mystery to me.

Having the government give with one hand and then take with APD (and take again on domestic routes) is even more daft! At least the Scottish PSO routes aren't subject to APD - it is of course so generous of the Scottish Parliament to hand out our cash to do this!

And slap bang in the midst of Manston's catchment area is Ashford International rail station not to mention Dover, Folkestone and Ramsgate ferry ports!

In the days when Sabena had a BRU-SEN service, I looked into using it to visit my daughter in Canterbury (before you ask, I was entitled to ID tickets). There was NO WAY I could find to get from one side of the estuary to the other without a huge detour.

Going even further back in time of course, Sabena also had a BRU-MSE service ...

And quite a variety of aircraft flying SN routes. As well as 707, 727, Caravelle and the more modern types, I flew Dak, Islander, Brasilia, Metro, Friendship and Herald, sadly never the Beech 99 and Queenair.

The 'Friendship' is the Fokker F27 ..... Sabena (Delta Air Transport), to the best of my recollections, never operated the F27, they operated the Fairchild Hiller FH-227!

Have to disagree with you on that one. Phileas, but the aircraft I'm thinking of was leased from BIAS and was an F27-400. I suspect I've flown on the DAS FH227s too.

Just a thought, but it could have been Flybe....they already serve two destinations from MSE and have just announced INV-AMS with the help of subsidy.

IIRC, Flybe tried MSE - Manchester and subsequently dropped the route. They currently fly from Manston to Edinburgh (daily) and Belfast (3x per week). They have a substantial operation from Gatwick to both Guernsey and Jersey Admittedly not the same airport, but the route from Southend to Jersey operates just once per week.

I'm struggling to think of other routes from Manston that Flybe would want to operate at a sufficient frequency to persuade local Govt to pay a chunky subsidy

Newcastle or Glasgow at a stretch ? Anyone got any other ideas ?

More than likely to be Amsterdam IMO or even RyanAir to Dublin?

However it would be good to see FlyBe operating some of the summer sun trunk routes from MSE down to MJV, ALC, AGP, PMI and FAO. :ok:

The survey they sent out to businesses about the AMS route mentioned KLM CityHopper. Manston Movements can probably supply you with the details if you look hard enough.
