8/10 as a website for A level / 1st year uni business studies project and certainly better than some others I've seen.

Would have liked to have seen a little bit more questioning in the survey such as "how many times a year do you fly UK<>USA" and "which airlines do you currently use".

kellyoldsmunt 22nd Jul 2011 15:03

the difference being that tha last time someone had the bright idea to fly to the u.s.a. it was to virginia, a strange destination to say the least. new york would seem a much better route or better still, florida.

Manston should investigate the promotion of fly/cruise packages.
This is one area in which they definately have the capability to accomodate the largest aircraft and the catchment area to make it commercially viable.
I would suggest that it costs operators a fortune to put such charters on from Gatwick, and a reputable agent, such as Newmarket Travel etc. have the contacts to advise accordingly.
Even if it's only 5 or 6 flights a year, that's 3000 to 4000 passengers using the airport which weren't there before.

Danscowpie - do you mean people who live in Kent going on a cruise, or do you mean people who live elsewhere going on a cruise that begins at Dover ?

CelticRambler 23rd Jul 2011 08:15

Either or ... and never mind going to Dover when Ramsgate is less than 4 miles away.

There's a good marina there too - an imaginative company could organise self-sail holidays from Kent along the southern English coast then fly them back while someone else does the reverse trip. Anyone know if there's a Harbour anywhere close to an airport in, ooh, say Devon, maybe? :}

davidjohnson6 23rd Jul 2011 21:20

I believe Plymouth has quite a good harbour :E

If you are thinking of connecting flights to Carribean cruises, these often use Gatwick based aircraft from the likes of TOM, so the positioning flight to Kent/Manston would probably negate any cost savings

According to the online timetable, Flybe seem to be dropping Belfast altogether and reducing Edinburgh to 4/5 weekly for the winter. Does anyone know what the loads have been like? I imagine that current fuel costs and tax expenses are making it very difficult without high demand.

It's a shame that there's bad news from Manston, yet again, just as things are picking up at Southend.

Would KLM / AF / Lufthansa etc. have any chance with a daily flight for connecting traffic into their respective mega-hubs?

Jes 30th Aug 2011 12:08

Edinburgh was cut back last winter, so no change. Belfast was a summer-only route, so no cut there.

EDI has had a brilliant July (helped by the Open) and a very good August, both months up on last year. After a shaky start, BHD is doing well.

Still waiting for news of the "double-daily service to a European hub".

rpmac 30th Aug 2011 12:18

Flew Manston-Edinburgh beginning of August, 69 passengers, excellent service, on time and quite impressed with the Q400.

Does anyone know what Atlas Air was in for yesterday?

kellyoldsmunt 3rd Nov 2011 13:31

hope it wasnt a night flight. the MAG (moaning about growth) are up in arms at the proposed 8 flight a night now in discussion with thanet council, one comment was that thanet relied on tourism for income, well it didnt cross their minds that tourist sometimes use aircraft to get to their destination.!!!
how many hotels in windsor are fully booked with tourists who know that if you live or stay near an airport, you may get some noise ?

747 FLY 3rd Nov 2011 16:49

Atlas Air came in roughly at 16:00ish followed by I think World Cargo or Iran Air about 20 minutes later but I couldn't see the livery.

Buster the Bear 3rd Nov 2011 17:38

I was told that Iran Air operates to pick up fuel and has to pay cash?

NorthSouth 3rd Nov 2011 21:27

Are the 2 DC8's (Hannover aviation/Starsaway) doing much flying from Manston ??

lefturnout 9th Nov 2011 00:04

Iran Air goes tech

Apparently one of their planes went tech at MSE on Sunday and, according to Manston Movements, the inbound LHR flight on Monday stopped off with some spares. Yesterday another one suffered a breakdown in CGN

One is regularly in and out, the second is due back in a couple of weeks with a new reg and colour scheme which will then start too :ok:

Erm... freight
That is what all the cargo carriers come in for :ugh:
This isn't meant to be a spotters forum.

Buster the Bear 10th Nov 2011 22:22

My understanding is that 'western' refullers have been banned from filling up Iranair, but the refuller at Manston is not aligned?
