And weren't Wizz on the verge of announcing Cardiff to Katowice there a couple of months ago. Obviously they changed their mind at the last minute...

centralwings

where this news on centralwings cwl they should be shouting out about this news also do anyone know when the winter flights are out

caaardiff 10th Sep 2007 13:42

I had seen these flights a few months back as well. But since then they seem to have disappeared. The mayfly isn't always that up-to-date.
As for GSM, they are having enough problems at the moment, it doesn't seem logical for them to start up in CWL as they are only well known in Scotland. Apparently their MAN long haul flights havent even been that succesful. It would be strange to start CWL during winter, or even next summer as we are so far south, risky waters for them, when they could concentrate on whats a very successful short haul program in Scotland.

a1234 12th Sep 2007 09:29

I see baby have added a new Madrid route from Birmingham - but nothing for Cardiff in this latest announcement. Also Centralwings seems to have abandoned CWL yet again! It really is surprising that we at Cardiff have no new routes announced for the winter season - not one! And still the city route market from CWL is looking as sparse as ever! Lets hope the management have a trick up their sleeve especially with the impending Ryr Brs base.

GXEYE 12th Sep 2007 10:35

Nobody wants to fly from Cardiff anymore, perhaps its because of the rude staff, sub standard facilities and the constant delays. Cardiff IAP will be a new housing estate in 5 years time!!!

caaardiff 12th Sep 2007 13:08

Care to elaborate?

Obviously winter at CWL is done for now as its getting late for any new routes from our own based carriers never mind new airlines starting routes.

However as said before the winter is picking up, with baby on just about same frequencies, Thomson are doing a number of new routes or higher frequencies. BCN & FNC new. LPA now x2 wkly and TFS now x3 wkly.
Air malta are doing MLA once a week.
It might not be much, but its more than previous years!

Smile!!! 12th Sep 2007 21:37

Wow, thats good news, especially considering-
We dont have a based XL aircraft for this season, and that our low cost airline sector, hasnt seen that much growth. (From WW, and the loss ASW etc). And with recent security threats.

The Centralwings thing has been going around the Polish papers for a while, which is quite strange, especially being so specific about Cardiff. While as we know very well, if the media said it would happen, it doesnt actually mean it will happen. However thats not to say it unlikley.

babys milk

this is great news cardiff airport posted on there web site now selling baby milk when all other airports posting loads of new routes and airlines great in it

cwl4eva 13th Sep 2007 22:42

Haha does make you laugh doesn't it... I'm beggining to come around to the idea of renaming Bristol to Bristol-Wales airport. Well most airlines seem to consider that its fine having flights from Bristol because it 'serves' Wales at the moment.

winter

its like a poor winter for cwl what are they doin

Being led by the guardian i believe. Shows passengers experiences of queues at airport. How reliable this info can be is debatable. For some reason this week 3 times check in has taken 58mins. Very odd and accurate time figure!
All comments about the airport are very good though. So unless the baggage belts are playing up again, Cardiff actually fairs quite well!

mathers_wales_uk 18th Sep 2007 15:24

I wonder where they receive theese figures from? I'm not aware of 58 minute check in delays as the a/c would go late.

I know the baggge belt had been playing up again this week with the belt gone down for approx 20 mins.

Outsourcing

Anyone heard the rumours I have seen on another Forum about talks between CWL and a big outsourcing agent about providing RFFS services? Is it true?

Phileas Fogg 19th Sep 2007 00:12

Cardiff doesn't have too much to worry about, it will always make it's money out of diversions from the landing strip across the water that was specifically built there to teach military pilots to operate in cr@p weather :)

birdscarer 19th Sep 2007 03:49

You dangling....? I'm biting! "Cardiff doesn't have too much to worry about, it will always make it's money out of diversions from the landing strip across the water that was specifically built there to teach military pilots to operate in cr@p weather"
Which would you choose to spend your Welsh Development Agency money on? ILS CATIIIB or MLS!? Hmmmmm! (Stroking beard and has a pondering look on ones face!)
We will say hi to BMI Baby for you next time CWL are out! HA! :ok:

pipertommy 19th Sep 2007 07:29

Hi,apparently every few years the RFFS out sourcing is reviewed.Basically to see if it would be cheaper for ie serco to take on the contract.Think Birmingham has gone over to them and a couple others.Cardiff`s RFFS have alot to do with op`s side of things which changes things.

new routes

anymore new,s on any new routes from cwl yet

4 engines 4 longhaul 22nd Sep 2007 22:03

Dunno but some fool, or maybe not! on Wiki assumes that Zoom will discontinue serving the airport from Vancouver as of next summer, true?

Smile!!! 22nd Sep 2007 23:02

Well next year according to Zooms currecnt schedule there will be no Vancouver flight for nextyear and Toronto will go down to 1 weekly direct. So it could be right.

andy1205 23rd Sep 2007 10:15

zoom

toronto flights are only once a week now so no change its just a direct route now for 2008 and the vancouver do look like its going ive tryed to book its on website also thomsonfly are dropping its orlando and cancun flights next year dont look good for cwl

4 engines 4 longhaul 23rd Sep 2007 11:27

Well we knew about TOM when the Fc/Tom merger came through, but orlando is being taken up by MYT ad one of there A330's Nice! Xl may put an Orlando service on but Zoom finishing Vancouver is a shock but theres 1% of me is thinking that is that slot on the aircraft being freed up for an NY service, Nah cant be but would be nice!!!!!:O

caaardiff 23rd Sep 2007 19:39

The Zoom a/c operating into CWL is Canadian. The JFK routes are operated by ZoomUK, so a/c slot would not be the reason. YYZ has always been popular, so hopefully they just havent released the schedule for YVR. Shame if it does go though.
XL/Travel city will be operating x4 flights during high season next year according to their site, on the A330.

Its a great shame that TOM is stopping the long haul.
Its strange though that the perception was they were to send long haul to BRS. Yet TOM arent selling SFB from either CWL or BRS for 08.
However they will be operating wkly to POP Winter08/09 as they are restarting their own carribean cruises with cruise and stay on offer. CWL is one of the routes. Seems they havent lost all faith in CWL long haul!

thomsonfly are dropping its orlando and cancun flights next year dont look good for cwl
Not strictly true, whilst CUN will be dropped, as Smile said, MYT will be operating the SFB route on their A330, which unless is a split with another UK station, will be a capacity increase of about 100 per flight.
At the moment looking on MYT's website it does appear as if SFB is not shared with any other station

britannialad 23rd Sep 2007 19:53

Thomsonfly long haul

Dont worry we will get the SFB and CAN back, the demand has been excellent once the merger with First choice has been fully established! we as crew recon they will bring it back for 2009, after all why promote something then take it away!! Its because of the merger! CWL Passengers are fab! they love the new longhaul product legroom etc and they get the chance to fly direct from CWL.

Smile!!! 23rd Sep 2007 20:06

No SFB will not be shared with another base on a MYT/TCX A330-200. However Thomas Cook website now showing flights for next summer operated by TOM? But MYT site still showing MYT, both on Thursdays, but at different times.

Next year PMI on XL will not be operating X-PMI-CWL-PMI-X, as this year, but the flight will originate from Cardiff, maybe a base in on the cards? Although its the only flight on the schedules at the moment

Next years flight for TCD will be operated by TCD, so XL. Only once weekly as far as I can tell.

Nah-probably releasing an aircraft to operate a Canadian route from BRS. :E
Ofcourse 5 flights a day

Nice LOL i thought BRS hopes were pinned on Fc's Plastic liner that's held together by Hardware shop Screws:}

travelbuddy 23rd Sep 2007 21:15

Hi bylad

do you really thisnkits because of the merger and not due to poor load factors

birdscarer 23rd Sep 2007 21:57

Don't be Pedantic Smile!!!.....I was thinking twice weekly! :}

As for the 'plastic liner', we are all sat twiddling our thumbs over here with great anticipation for the saviour of our STOL runway is only a year away! We were concerned Airfix (the company designing and making the wings!) were going bust, but all seems back on track now! Phew!!!! :ok:

flower 24th Sep 2007 09:29

Anyone else on here would like to see threads like the one above disappear and allow reasoned debate and speculation rather than the same spotter type post every week ?
If there is any news you can bet it will be on here, Cardiff thread doesn't have to be on the front page all the time, if nothing is happening guess what nothing is happening.

Apologies to Prune Pop for posting this I'm just fed up of this being a thread with no real purpose.

birdscarer 24th Sep 2007 14:59

Flower. It is probably worth pointing out that this is a rumour network and probably worth taking most threads with a pinch of salt. It is fair to say all factual news is discussed as and when it happens but is also a place to discuss possibilities and missed opportunites, and a bit of banter too. Its not a sterile news post. The lead in even says 'Topics about airports, routes and airline business.' not 'Hard factual News only!'. Lighten up!

flower 24th Sep 2007 16:39

Birdscarer I wasn't referring to your post but one which Andy1205 removed. I had no issue with yours but quite frankly we seem to have the spotters taking over yet again.

birdscarer 24th Sep 2007 17:18

Ahh! Then I apologise Flower.

Edited: The rest of the post was about BRS! - PPP.

merlinxx 24th Sep 2007 18:34

Some posters require tutoring

Surely this is an industry forum and not for spotters, also some of the posters here really do need some English lessons. Punctuation is deplorable on some, you'd not make it into my operation with that standard of written English, or Welsh to that matter.

(personal attack)

4 engines 4 longhaul 24th Sep 2007 18:53

industry forum
Yes PPrune does cover the aviation industry, But if it were for those who indeed do work in the aviation industry then who would people like me be able to discuss current issues about my local airport to a friendly bunch of people. Oh and if it were orientated solely around industry then by the looks the majority of your posts would disapear.

jetstream7 24th Sep 2007 20:26

Flower.

100% agree.

Cardiff is my local airport, yet I read the Cardiff threads ever less frequently.

birdscarer 24th Sep 2007 23:05

Only to New York. I guess if punters wanted to get further to SFO, LAX or YVR for that matter, they would head to CWL. Oh actually nope-they don't do those routes either.....sorry what was your point again!?!

Rumour has it Mr Horne will be departing end oct- sketchy news at the moment

birdscarer 24th Sep 2007 23:31

Fair few complaints last January
Only because they had to fly from CWL. ;)

PPRuNe Pop 25th Sep 2007 06:30

You will no doubt notice that there are more than just a few deletes. A good number of them were about BRS! This forum refers to CWL.

Btw. Spotter questions or comments are not acceptable on here. There is another forum for those.

Mods.

I've also heard this. Reasons unknown. Shame... very nice guy!
