LHR free add ons
 
Agree with Skyman771 never seen these for a long time, they used to do it on BA holidays etc.
However as recent as a few months ago I have seen free add on from MAN and very very cheap add ons from EDI and GLA.
So bearing in mind the high LF on this route, paying passengers, apparently good yields and no competition unlike some other BA domestic routes flying alongside BD, It should be here to stay. Am I right in thinking that NCL is the only major BA domestic to LHR without competition?
Conclusion is in theory that higher fees from BAA should have less effect on NCL-LHR than other BA routes.
One thing that could have an effect on this route is of course Emirates new service to Dubai. which will also hurt KL/AF.We shall see.

Noticed that the FJE TFS flight was supposed to go at 0700am....still delayed at 1238HRS....wonder whats wrong with it now

Thomas Cook seem to be suffering too. Wonder if BBC have arrived yet and if both delays will get a mention - I suspect not!

of course both wont be mentioned, also a jet2 delay from krakow and the inbound tcx from dlm is being coached from man - bet people only find the time to moan about flyjet tho :ugh:

Oh yes that Vile reporter from the BBC who seems to have nothing better to do than slag of airlines for there delays at NCL airport......its about time he got a life and started naming and shaming all of the drunken teenagers that run amock on our streets in the late evenings.

Dont think he would be so clever to stand beside them and report on them for a change.............:):):)

Just another week to go till Emirates commences daily flights to Dubai. Surely this is the most important milestone in the history of Newcastle Airport. The link is fantastic news for the North East in general. Daily flights to the fastest growing city in the world. You have to see Dubai to believe the scale and ambition they have. Business opportunities within the Middle East are truly mind boggling and this daily link will open up opportunities to businesses in most sectors in the North East.

Let's just hope the service is successful long term.

Anybody have any news on the replacement for John Parkin?

In total Newcastle has had a 4.4% increase in pax based on the same period last year (that will also include charters).

A very creditable performance.

It should also be mentioned that pax traffic reached 627,492 which I think is the first time the 600,000 mthly pax figure has been breached.

Good to see Stavanger picking up again and KLM seems to have more than held its own since Jet 2 came off the Amsterdam route.

Copenhagen is doing well considering it is now operated by Cimber and not SAS and must be near the frequency increase threshold....SAS said 2,500 monthly.

Jet 2 still struggling with Gatwick, maybe things will get better.

Re: LGW, if they did something about the prices they'd do a lot better. It's generally far dearer than BA were on the route on peak time services, certainly not representative of a "low fares" airline. Eastern prices for Jet 2 service, doesn't add up for the average pax, even regular business travellers

I very much doubt the fire service will give the first EK a water salute, though there will be the usual celebrations going on in the terminal. It is going to be interesting how the airport will cope with the first departure, particularly on a saturday afternoon when the airport is extremely busy. I suspect the charter check in hall will be dedicated to EK, with all other flights pushed along slightly. Wonder if TOM are happy getting moved off their regular checkin area?

nclairportfan those figures are fairly pleasing, though a few are a bit disappointing. HAJ, BGY and BRU I would of thought would have less of a drop than that.

I suspect that next year, there will be further drops, particularly with the charter destinations. The consolidation in the industry, plus the large drop in capacity by the XL group will have negative effects all round.

Is it true that XL have formally announced they will not return to NCL next year and infact sub out all their work to a third party carrier? I do hope this is not the case or it would feel NCL is going backwards in expansion in this area of the industry. One thing that NCL does not want is to become an airport reliant on loco flights. A mixture is better for the consumer?

Just beening looking at the kosmar website and the flight guide has been updated for summer 2008.

Looks like its not just NCL which has lost out. They have scaled everything back including the choice of days you can fly. unless you are flying from LGW or MAN theres not a lot of choice now.

I still cant belive that we are loosing some many of these routes when the big tour operators dont even offer these routes from NCL anyway.

Hopefully the other operators to greece will get together and charter somebody else in and offer these flights for the north east peple.

FJE update: Euro Atlantic B767 is based operating all the dalayed flights this weekend. FJEB is tech again not going anywhere soon

Atleast FJE have managed to subcharter something in, without having a 24hr + delay. EuroAtlantic seem to cooperate alot with Flyjet. Its a shame that they have had such a run of bad luck, stats from the winter season 06/07 placed them 5th in UK punctuality tables - a great improvement, though I think this summer will let them down again! I have heard plans are in place to have EB repaired for monday.

Regarding the flights to the destinations in Greece which are not on sale, due to cutbacks the only tour operators likely to charter something else are Olympic and Libra Holidays. Kosmar now form part of the XL group. Its a shame but I very much doubt that the likes of JTR etc will appear from NCL. Its expensive for small operators like Libra and Olympic to charter an aircraft and is a big risk to have a whole charter.

One problem is that there are very few charter aircraft based in Greece, so a 'w' pattern would probably be needed in order to maintain axed XL Greek Island routes

My aunty has just arrived back to newcastle and has been delayed. The reason she was given was that aircraft were being given a slot for landing into NCL.

can anybody tell me the reason why?

ive heard of aircraft been given slots outbound due to lots of traffic in europe but not for landing here.

How do you know that...? would have thought like-for like EDI or ABZ would have been better than NCL. But I suppose NCL doesnt have any direct competition on the LHR route that others do

It can happen if the apron is completely full and there is nowhere that the inbound aircraft can be safely held whilst a stand is vacated by an outbound a/c. It must be pretty rare at NCL, but at a guess, I would say that might be why.
