PIA to pakistan

I think that this could work 2x weekly say a thursday and monday flights.

There is a lot of doctors and nurses from pakistan working in our hospitals over the weekend and working out of hrs through the week.

At the minute alot of these doctors come over for a few days at a time every couple of weeks. They fly from ncl to ams or lhr to get conncetions back to pakistan, bet they would love for PIA to offer direct flights back home from NCL!!

:ok::ok:

PIA

How many hospitals have you got up there? It must be a lot if you can let approx 800 staff pop over to Pakistan every fortnight.

You need a big ethnic community like Bradford or Leicester, to support Pakistan services.

Air Berlin

I see that AB have ordered 10 Q400's, to use on routes that dont need a 737 and to allow the ailine to operate into smaller airports.

perfect aircraft to use on a NCL-SXF or other germany routes??

757 Speedbrakes 21st May 2008 15:52

Aren't PIA only allowed in UK with 777's? Something about their engineering prowess?

I had to Taxi behind one in MAN the winter before last and it got lost, then tried to taxi onto the wrong way, then tried to turn but ended up blocking the taxi way!! :ugh:

AB don't fly from SXF

Jamesair 21st May 2008 17:52

Jet 2 have put their winter Canary Islands routes on sale.

Tenerife reduces to 1 per week, Arrecife stays at 1 weekly and Las Palmas seems to have been scrapped.

transwede 21st May 2008 18:04

There was always a rumour of AB launching services to NCL, it could be from any one of their bases, more than likely TXL, MUC or Paderborn??? Dash 8 could be an ideal aircraft, certainly LH seem to fill a small regional airliner from DUS, though I suppose many pax could use these flights for onwards? There is definately scope for regional services to Germany from NCL, past history may not do us any favours with SXF, HAM, MUC, CGN all dropped by previous operators.

Even though PIA is a nice thought for some and probably a welcome addition to the management, I think I must agree with a comment earlier - lets drop it. The market would be very weak even on a bi weekly frequency and its probably a no go on behalf of PIA. They may have looked, one can always be surprised!

757 speedbrakes I could be wrong but do PK not use A310 into Glasgow?

ROSSKi MYT 21st May 2008 18:43

Glasgow is an A310, would be nice for and upgrade

Pakistani Population

I don't usually say owt on this site, just watch the converstations flow- but thought I would help out the converstation on the PIA issue
Newcastle City has a pakistani population of 10,589.00- mainly centred in Fenham/ Arthurs Hill in the west of the city (the whole Tyneside conurbation has a population of 15105 of pakistani background)
Middlesbrough also has a a large NE pakistani centre with a population of 6149.
The whole northeast region as a whole has a pakistani population of 31,695.:ouch:

In contrast
Leeds has a population of 28569 pakistani, and Bradford 79971- 108538 altogether (200579 for the whole Yorkshire Humber region 6 times more pakistani's in Yorkshire than in the North East)

However- if PIA fly from Glasgow, the numbers of pakistanis living in Glasgow is 17595, and in the whole of Scotland is roughly 22,000- less than the northeast region and they can support a flight so why then not Newcastle??

SO........ Leeds would be a better bet, but it may have something to do with the airport facilities and the fact that Manchester airport is only an hour (not even that from Bradford) so they may feel Leeds/ Bradford is already served.

toonworker 22nd May 2008 09:27

However..........

The pakistani population of the East Midlands region is 103470!!! over three times more than the NE so if to choose between the two PIA would for the EMA wouldnt they? However again parts of the East Midlands aint that far away from both Birmingham and Manchester really and they might feel those populations are already served- we can live in hope anyway!!!

transwede 22nd May 2008 18:18

IF IT DID HAPPEN, lets hope its not the same time as EK DXB departure or security in peak months would be interesting and maybe a few more check in desks/security lanes etc would be needed!!:}

Re: Old Greggs Area

Apparently the old greggs area is going to be made into a new information desk area.
The current information desk will then be re-developed into a larger out of guage security desk incorporating a staff channel.

Thats what I heard Anyways.

IF IT DID HAPPEN
IT WON'T so please can you stop fantasing, move on! and stop looking for subjective issues that are in fact totally irrelevant.

ncleflights 23rd May 2008 14:44

Changing the subject does anyone know what happened to the plans for a filling station at the entrance to the airport?

757 Speedbrakes 23rd May 2008 17:02

That would be good. The BP in Ponteland isn't easy to get to if you didn't know it was there as well as the one at Tesco and my company make us fill up hire cars at a station half way to the city - which is a pain if you live there meaning you have to drive in and out twice. :ugh:

I'm sure it would do quite well :ok:

transwede 24th May 2008 08:15

skyman I was not fantasising regarding PIA, thats why I put it in larger letters with smiley - I too believe it would never happen, well not atleast for 10 years or so!!! However, I was one of those who thought a long haul scheduled service by the likes of EK would never happen, so I have learned never to never easily!

The filling station is still in the plans I believe! Maybe building work on the new hotel is to be completed, before the other side of the entrance is started? Work is progressing quickly on the new departures area - whereby pax will have to walk through shops to access gates, an effort by the airport to get people to spend more! No doubt more retail facilities will be added.

What a difference the airport is to a few years ago in terms of routes, airlines, facilities etc!:D

And hopefully more to come ;)

BA to cut 21 routes "Included in those route cuts are BA’s services from Aberdeen to Cardiff, Newcastle, Belfast, Southampton, and Bristol."

Take it this means the end of BA at NCL and a link with LHR
