I see that it is rumoured that NATS is to provide a Lower Airspace Radar Service for the London area in order to prevent an ever increasing number of unauthorised zone penetrations. This is to be done from Farnborough.
Didn't Luton ATC once provide this service north of London prior to it being taken on by NATS and the radar element moved into West Drayton or am I suffering from deja-vous? |

Don’t think BAA has much to fear with Luton. Ryanair won’t be going anywhere because there is nowhere for them to go. Also once gone they would loose their slots to airlines that are queuing up to get into Stansted or an airline with an existing Stansted base.

MOL is a cornered man. APD & airport security charges are forcing his load factors down, thus the 'give away' deals currently on offer. This may well be posturing, but although Ryanair and BAA Stansted have been in wedlock since 1991, MOL will do anything to keep profits high.
My guess is that if he had to pull flights from Essex, they might find there way into the East Midlands? If my memory serves me right, a similar situation occurred when the Luton base was expanded from a single to four 737's? (Don't rule Manston out either) If Ryanair are suffering in the UK and predicting difficult trading conditions, the other UK Lo-Co's might also be sweating? Those low cost airlines with business risks stretched all across Europe might not be so affected by a tightening of the UK's belts. If airports have faced a tightening of their gonads to win and keep business, another interest rate rise will see them squealing at an even higher pitch! |

Peter Brown, CEO of Monarch Travel Group, has revealed that its Swiss owners ‘are happy for us to remain independent’. Brands that fall under Brown’s control include Avro, Cosmos, somewhere2stay as well as the eponymous airline. Rumours that the group is on the market surface regularly. But Brown told guests at the Barclays Travel Forum that ‘ultimately any sale is a decision for our shareholders but at the moment they are happy for us to remain independent.’ Monarch Group is part of Group Voyages, a Swiss business 100% owned by the Mantegazza and Albeck families. At the same time as shielding the group from the consolidation plays going on around Europe, he also revealed that acquisitions are not high on its agenda either. ‘We’ve generally concluded that we can build things up ourselves, like somewhere2stay.’ He described the business as an ‘aviation-led group’. Its 31-strong fleet flies 7.5m sector pax a year, split between high frequency low fare scheduled services and charter business, with the latter set to grow in the medium term with the arrival of six Boeing 787 Dreamliners, due for delivery from 2010. ‘By no means is charter a bankrupt model,’ he insisted. ‘There will be some seat-only sales but the new planes will be for tour operating.’ He added that 85% of the scheduled services were booked online, and that it was considering a ‘standard service across all short-haul’. Brown also admitted that it was currently looking into its portfolio and asking whether four or five brands is too many. ‘We are looking at it,’ he said. However, he qualified this by adding: ‘But you can do anything [with branding] if you’re prepared to throw money at it, and prepared to lose the money.’ |

I was just browsing Luton Council's planning website and discovered that the plans for the new Harrods 129 hanger and revamp of the Cargo Apron are there.
For info, I've pulled one of the main drawing to my website and added a composite Google Earth pic of how the whole new area will look: http://homepage.ntlworld.com/spencer...rodscargo.html The old flying club link (now an airside road) is being redirected, parallel to the Northern Apron to make room for the extra bit of concrete being put down -the area where work has apparantly recently started. I initially thought the new area was a lot smaller than the current South Stands - although the composite pic shows total area only about 15-20% less (although a different shape and no ability for aircraft wings to overhang the edge - due to retaining walls or the Cargo Building). Does anyone know if Harrods are going to release all of the South Stands? Other things I noticed on the planning website are plans for a new airside road connecting the East Apron and the South Stands - running parallel to and east of the Delta taxiway as well as what appears to be an extension to the raised, covered walkway to accomodate Stands 60/61. |

Even through Harrods didn’t have exclusive use of the entire south stands Harrods claims that their new apron is bigger than their old one doesn’t seem to stand up to scrutiny when compared to the red line comparison of the south stands.:confused:
