Since the new cargo apron opened I have yet to see a visit by MNG. Have MNG been given the boot seeing that the cargo apron can only handle a couple of DHL aircraft at a time?

There has been at least one MNG A300 on the cargo plan this week, but their frequency is much reduced. It was almost daily until last summer.

It will be interesting to see the Varig Log MD11 on the new Cargo apron on Monday (assuming it turns up:bored:)

A revised completion date for the dual carriageway from the M1 into the airport, which was originally meant to be completed this spring, will now not be finished until late 2008, the construction company have advised.

That will be two and a half years to build one mile of road. During the second world war 3 runway airfields complete with taxiways, hangars and buildings were built in 6 months.

Yes but the original estimate for completion did not allow commuting time to and from Poland for the work force.

doesn't help the traffic situation with LBC diggin up roundabouts and chunks of road between the airport and stopsley and leaving them for an eternity,. For once i wish thay would just start something and finish it before spending money on yet another truck load of cones!!!!

Easy have Jersey & Pisa starting earlier than originally announced. Flights for both destinations now commence on 20 March; obviously trying to tap into the easter market.

They are allegedly due receive more airframes shortly, so quite possibly, but not long to announce the flights locally?

Received an email yesterday from the main GSA of Shaheen Air in the UK. They are still awaiting confirmation of the start date from the airline for the LTN service. Apparently much interest shown in the proposed operation, and they are keen for ops to start asap, but as yet no official start date has been given, and 30 March now looks unlikely.

I did see a car driving round Luton 2 weeks ago in Air Shaheen logo.

Well, that's encouraging although hardly surprising!

Of all UK airports, Leeds (or Manchester), Birmingham (or East Midlands) and Luton must be absolute 'gold mines' for these services to the Indian subcontinent. And what about Air Sylhet? The chaps in my local Indian restaurant (Bangladeshi actually) are all keen as mustard (or should that be keen as khurma...) for this rumoured service to begin via Sharjah between Luton and Dacca and/or Sylhet. A veritable licence to print money. :ok::confused:

Given the size of the asian population in Luton and the immediate area, not to mention its proximity to London there surely is a market from Luton to India and Pakistan. However, one has to wonder if the market was really there how come Swe Fly couldn't make it work? Was this just another example of bad management and factors aside from load factors affecting their demise?

I think one of the problems with launching services like this is the lack of premium traffic. Virtually every pax will want the lowest price available, and it's a long-haul flight. Selling tickets at £300-400 makes it a very 'loco' operation, and the economics must support this price regime.

No problem with demand, but the demand is highly price-driven, so yields will be the issue.

Harrods
 

When Harrods was based on the south apron the apron as well as their hangar area always seemed to be jam packed with biz jets.

Now since their move to the old cargo area it is a case of where have all the aircraft gone with their new apron almost empty for much of the day. Seeing that their apron in front of their hangar was already full is it a case that Harrods has lost business?

I had a long chat with an airport manager that I have known for years but rarely see. We talked about the master plan and expansion of the airport. The manager said the new master plan appears to be to do nothing and that there are no plans to do anything apart from care and maintenance, as the Spanish masters will not release any money for the airport.

The manager told me that there was a plan to tackle the chronic congestion in the central area including one plan to dual the approach road through the tunnel but this seems to have been dropped now due to a lack of funding.


With expansion taking place as Stansted, Biggin Hill and Farnborough, which is now the UK’s busiest business jet airport the manager told me that by doing nothing the airport would loose business to other airports that see Luton’s aircraft as potentially their aircraft.
